  1. I guess he left baseball because he didn't want to be stuck in a male-only occupation that's under great scrutiny due to a shocking scandal.
  2. Rats, there goes my plan of getting an official Cory Sullivan jersey.
  3. All right everyone, call your friends & relations. We're all going to chip in and buy the Astros!
  4. It's pointless to dredge up yet another guilty party from back then instead of focusing on what's going on right now. We already know that lots of players - maybe all the players - used roids back then and that encouraged stricter rules in the MLB in 2003. It's counterproductive to keep going back to before 2003. It's past and gone. We can only fix what's happening today.
  5. As far as I'm concerned, every professional baseball player used performance enhancing drugs up to 2003. Not just the bad guys everyone wants to see shamed but the so-called good guys too. Every single damn one of them used ped's. Coaches, managers, trainers and executives helped them use ped's or turned a blind eye . They all used it and it was bad and it's good that MLB finally cracked down, but in an odd way they were on a level playing field in that era too. Constantly leaking or confessing old news about guys who used and trying to determine who needs and asterix is counterproductive. Find out who is using and abusing and screening their PED use now. Everything before 2003 is irrelevant.
  6. There's a bit more than that, no?
  7. Kissing with tongues.
  8. Whaddya know, I wrote about this movie too.
  9. Ashie62 wrote: Alomar was a nasty prick and that translated into less votes And Alomar allegedly did nasty things with his nasty prick.
  10. I'll take 2007-2009 (2 highly-competitive years & 1 injury-ridden year) over 2002-2004 (three crap years with a team full of reprobates) any time. This team's still got a solid core and I expect good things in 2010.
  11. The only game on this list I attended was Game 4 of the 2000 NLCS, still my only postseason game.
  12. The first game in NYC after Sept. 11th packed an emotional wallop so I voted for that but my runner up is the Bobby Jones 1-hitter for pure baseball accomplishment.
  13. I checked off 8 and put in two write-in votes. May 21, 2005 http://www.ultimatemets.com/gamedetail.php?gameno=6941: The Koo Game versus the MFY's May 23, 2006 http://www.ultimatemets.com/gamedetail.php?gameno=7104: Beltran homer ends 16-inning marathon versus the Phillies (for me this was the defining game of the brilliant 2006 season and I can't believe it's not an option)
  14. I read that they had originally planned to cast Eisenhower as himself. That would have been cool.
  15. A committee meets to decide on a prestigious award. No agreement can be reached so finally someone says "This person hasn't done anything to deserve the award but he seems like a good guy, let's just give it to him." Is it the Nobel Peace Prize or Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year? Oh wait, it's both!
  16. For a Mets jacket worn by Bernie Madoff: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=120415309≻=fb&cc=fp
  17. A very high Douchebag Count in lower Manhattan today. It's off the charts.
  18. The Battle of American Sports' Douchiest Fans http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/mon-november-2-2009/clash-of-the-cretins.
  19. So Oct. 27th was the date of Game 7 (after a rain postponed a game) in 1986, the date of Game 4 in 2004 (when the Red Sox broke the curse) and now it's the day before Game 1 of the World Series?!?! Ridonculous!
  20. I root for scandal. A stash of PED's in the clubhouse. Accounting irregularities in the front office. In game, on-field arrests for off-field crimes. All played out in a media circus before a national audience.
  21. I'm rooting for a highly-localized earthquake to open up a chasm in the middle of the field. If one of these teams has to win, I'll take the Phillies to block the all-LA World Series. SoCal'ers are insufferable enough as it is.
  22. Including tonight's game the Mets have 22 games left this season. I'd like you to imagine for a moment the unlikely situation that through a combination of skill, effort and a whole lot of luck the Mets win every single game for the rest of the season. The Mets finish the season with 84 wins, and in this theoretical scenario finish just one game out of the Wild Card, falling short of the postseason once again. In this unprecedented scenario where the Mets crush the team record for consecutive wins yet still miss the playoffs, I'd like to know what you would think of the Mets and perhaps post here on the last day of the season. Specifically I'd wonder about what you'd think of the Mets' character as a team and as individuals and what you think of their effort in the win streak.
