Three teams fighting for two spots with a day or two left in the season, separated by about a game in the standings and arbitrary derived tiebreakers after playing a combined almost 500 games. It's all a big nothing. The difference between these teams is nothing. Air. A stupid groundball that the batter regretted hitting the instant he made contact but that ended up in the outfield for a run scoring single. A lucky seeing-eye single that won a game. A warning track out that was blasted and crushed but didn't land 20 feet beyond the outfield wall like it should have because the wind was blowing in. Luck. Randomness. Nothing. The sixth and seventh best teams in the league battling for a playoff spot.
