  1. I thought it hit him in the head, but whatever. I loved that scene.
  2. I loved the article. Omar's got this all thought out brilliantly.P.S. Get rid of Ben Baumer.
  3. HALLELUJAH!!!Thank you for embracing the homegrown method, Omar.
  4. DAMMIT, DAMMIT, DAMMIT, I only JUST figured Tony Armas out.
  5. Jaw + Knee = Johnny?
  6. Let's get him. We could use a power-hitting first baseman- let's give the MFYs Seo and Ishii.
  7. Although the Brewers have indicated that they won't trade Lyle Overbay, if I were them, I'd do it now, to maximize his value. He's hitting .379 for the week with 4 hr, 8 rbi. They've got Prince Fielder in the minors as their first baseman of the future. Also, a prediction:The Milwaukee Brewers will be a legitimate playoff-contending team within the next 3-5 years.I'm not kidding.
  8. I'm guessing "knee" is part of it, as in Rodney or Barney or something.
  9. On the subject of Hanley Ramirez, I've seen him play. I went to a Norwich Navigators-Portland Sea Dogs game in June, and he is an outstanding prospect. He's fast as hell, and he hit a home run that day, so he's got some power. He also has a cannon for an arm. The only problem I saw with him was that he was a bit shaky defensively at shortstop. His glovework wasn't that great, and he needs to locate his throws a little better. But he's a good player.

  11. My favorite sportswriter ever:The late, great, Dr. Hunter S. Thompson. He was an absolute genius, definitely the most entertaining writer I've ever read. His articles on the Super Bowl, discussing football with Nixon, and his later work on ESPN.com are uproariously funny. The best piece of sports journalism I've read in a long time:Tom Verducci's "I Was A Toronto Blue Jay" for Sports Illustrated. Amazing work.
  12. Repeating my statement in the Mets Trade Rumors thread, Colorado OF Eric Byrnes has gone to Baltimore for OF Larry Bigbie.
  13. Eric Byrnes just went to Baltimore for Larry Bigbie.
  14. I am so sick of hearing about Soriano. I don't want him, the Mets would fall apart if we got him. Shea is a goddamn pitcher's park. Therefore, you need guys that can play DEFENSE. Omar should be unloading Ishii and Graves as his first move, to a pitching-starved team like Cincy, Texas, or Baltimore...And then it occurs to me...Brian Roberts. The O's will want a top-flight starter. Give them Zambrano and another guy or two, and cash. That could actually work...
  15. Gammons is being inducted into the Hall of Fame.::shivers::
  16. Larry Walker is a Hall of Famer. Here's why:Career stats:.312 avg.400 obp + .565 slg = .965 ops379 homers1299 rbi229 sb467 doubles1997 MVP - .366 avg, 49 hr, 130 rbi, 409 tb, 33 sb, .452 obp, .720 slg, 1.172 ops, nearly won the triple crown, 29 road homers and .346 road averageWon a few batting titles in the late 90'sOn another note, how could anyone POSSIBLY say that Ivan Rodriguez doesn't have the credentials yet to make the Hall?He has ELEVEN Gold Gloves, most ever for a catcher7 Silver Sluggers.306 avg258 hr1038 rbiPossibly the best defensive catcher ever.
  17. No, Roger Maris is not in the Hall of Fame.
  18. "And now (pitcher's name) checks the signs from his catcher, (catcher's name)"
  19. Congrats to Wade Boggs and Ryne Sandberg on their upcoming enshrinement in Cooperstown. But let's discuss those players who SHOULD be admitted to the Hall, whether they be still playing, not on the ballot yet, on the ballot, or in front of the Veteran's Committee. Here's my partial list of those deserving enshrinement (with current players, based on if they retired today):Gil Hodges (the ONLY player in the history of the Hall of Fame voting process to receive more than 60% of the votes from the writers and not make it in, with the exception of Bruce Sutter in this past year's ballot, who's on his way in soon)Bruce SutterGoose GossageJim RiceBert BlylevenAndre DawsonTony GwynnMark McGwireCal Ripken Jr.Rickey HendersonEdgar MartinezTim RainesRoberto AlomarMike PiazzaIvan RodriguezRafael PalmeiroSammy SosaBarry BondsRoger ClemensRandy JohnsonPedro MartinezGreg MadduxTom GlavineJohn SmoltzTrevor HoffmanMariano RiveraAlex RodriguezKen Griffey Jr.Larry WalkerJeff BagwellManny RamirezCraig BiggioFrank ThomasJeff Kent
  20. I have to come out and say it right now: we have to stop blaming steroids as the only reason why the 90's saw a lot of home runs. As you should recall, four - FOUR! - teams began play in the 90's, including the ever-inflationary Rockies. The pitching ranks were thinned twice in the 90's, not to mention a slew of new, smaller ballparks opening up. So please, enough with the blaming everything on steroids. It was a large part, to be sure, with a good number of players (see Anderson, Brady) but there were other factors that went into it.
  21. If B.J. Ryan tests free agency, we have to throw everything at him, including the kitchen sink and Mo Vaughn's leftover hamburgers. He is a BEAST.Speaking of the Orioles, who else is ecstatic that Omar didn't make the bone-headed trade for Sammy "Corky Miller" Sosa? Imagine where we'd be if THAT had happened... *shivers*
  22. Raffy's probably the quietest Hall-of-Famer there ever was. Period. He's Mr. Consistency to a T. And that's what he'll go in as, a T.By the way, he has 566 homers, not 553.
  23. Heh, "Papaya Head" looks like it fits. I'm glad we're getting some clubhouse chemistry FINALLY.
  24. Thanks for your kind welcomes. I appreciate it.In terms of why Cincy would trade Lopez, let me give you this statistic:5.57.That's their team ERA, good for last in the NL. They are absolutely DESPERATE for pitching. They have plenty of offense, as their 112 homers lead the NL. Offer them any kind of serviceable pitcher, and they'll dangle a bevy of hitters.By the way, has anyone noticed the resurgence of Ken Griffey Jr.? He's BAAAACK...
  25. We need a bump. NOW.
