  1. Sorry... I tend to go off on a rant sometimes...
  2. 1969 was what I was thinking too... it's been 36 years, which is long enough to wait for one of the biggest stories in baseball history to come to the big screen. However, 1986 would probably make a good movie too.
  3. The argument has been made that one should root for one of the original 16 teams over the 14 expansion teams. But with expansion baseball in its 45th year, maybe it's time to broaden one's mind to accept some of the expansion teams. Here are the original teams as they are now: National League Atlanta Braves Chicago Cubs Cincinnati Reds Los Angeles Dodgers Philadelphia Phillies Pittsburgh Pirates St. Louis Cardinals San Francisco Giants American League Baltimore Orioles Boston Red Sox Chicago White Sox Cleveland Indians Detroit Tigers Minnesota Twins New York Yankees Oakland Athletics But since the expansion era began, the following teams have been added (as they are now): 1961 Los Angeles Angels Texas Rangers 1962 Houston Astros New York Mets 1969 Kansas City Royals Milwaukee Brewers San Diego Padres Washington Nationals 1977 Seattle Mariners Toronto Blue Jays 1993 Colorado Rockies Florida Marlins 1998 Arizona Diamondbacks Tampa Bay Devil Rays I think you could find a suitable cutoff date in there if you wished.
  4. Wouldn't it be nice if a big movie studio were to make a movie out of one of the Mets' seasons? Let's discuss potential Met movies.
  5. Watch us trade for a catcher instead.
  6. Edgy DC wrote:If you grow up in New Jersey, you have to like the Mets. If only that were true...
  7. The interim tag has been removed. Sam Perlozzo, who was the Mets third base coach from 1987-89, has been hired as the Baltimore Orioles' manager. And he's a GWU alum, so I'm happy. We don't have too many baseball players. The only ones I know of are Perlozzo and John Flaherty.
  8. Heheh... Hoot... Burt Hooton... heheh. Mild Astros.
  9. Mildly Pale Hose... the Angels deserve some props for wiping the smirks off the faces of the MFYs.
  10. Aha! Further evidence of the existence of the Schaefer System in the late '70s.
  11. OOH... I just thought of something. If Cashman wants to stick it to Steinbrenner, and get away from the high expectations, he could take the GM position recently opened up in... TAMPA BAY. That would be beautiful, watching Steinbrenner go nuts over losing Cashman to the Devil Rays.
  12. They matter to Arte Moreno, as evidenced by his famous beer price slashing. Too bad it's in Chicago, then.
  13. Baseball is huge there, Sidney Ponson is both from there and huge. Heheh. I crack myself up.
  14. Orioles job looks to be off the table, Flanagan "promoted".
  15. You have returned! Welcome back. How was the honeymoon?
  16. I DO know that Stu Sternberg, the new owner of the Devil Rays, is very serious about moving the team to Las Vegas if Tampa doesn't help him build this enormous complex. I forget if it includes a new stadium or not. I'll have to probe my dad for info on specific players, though. My dad knows him from work. Sternberg and a whole bunch of his friends from work all retired at the same time and got a ton of money, which they used on the D-Rays. My dad wasn't one of them, and I did yell at him when all this was going on for not even being the tiniest bit involved, but he does know a lot of people in that ownership group.
  17. Considering the series begins today, you know, we gotta get one going.
  18. We're more recent NL Champions than the Braves. That means we're better... or something. In some small way.
  19. That's the perfect post right there.
  20. I can't say I recall seeing that.
  21. Former Mets Who Are Free Agents John Thomson Shawn Estes Kelly Stinnett John Olerud Jeromy Burnitz Glendon Rusch Luis Lopez Mike DeJean Carl Everett Fernando Vina Lenny Harris Jose Vizcaino Joe McEwing Paul Byrd Matt Lawton Al Leiter Rey Sanchez Alberto Castillo Octavio Dotel Jay Payton Todd Pratt Rick White Manny Alexander Pedro Astacio James Baldwin Richard Hidalgo Kenny Rogers Carlos Baerga Gary Bennett Mike Stanton Preston Wilson
  22. Our 25-man roster, subtracting all potential free agents, currently consists of: Pitchers 1. Pedro Martinez 2. Tom Glavine 3. Kris Benson 4. Jae Seo 5. Victor Zambrano 6. Aaron Heilman 7. Juan Padilla 8. Heath Bell 9. Tim Hamulack Position Players 10. David Wright 11. Carlos Beltran 12. Jose Reyes 13. Cliff Floyd 14. Mike Cameron 15. Ramon Castro 16. Mike Jacobs 17. Kazuo Matsui 18. Victor Diaz 19. Anderson Hernandez 20. Chris Woodward Five spots remain. We're likely to re-up Marlon Anderson, and possibly Roberto Hernandez, so that would leave three spots. They would likely go towards a catcher, a closer, and a reserve corner infielder. P.S. I was quite surprised to see on MLB.com that Chris Woodward is not a free agent. I had assumed he was, but he's not listed as free-agent-eligible.
  23. My dad knows the new owner. I'll ask him.
  24. Whoa whoa whoa. Bernie Castro is a free agent? The dude filled in for Brian Roberts quite well at the end of the season in Baltimore, batting leadoff most games. Pick him up.
