  1. Sack Fly for Berkman and the NL lead is 2-0. I approve of this behavior.
  2. Ol Jeets taps back weakly to the pitcher. Two more LOBs for the AL.
  3. Oh it's Captain Wonderful's last chance to honor the Baseball Cathedral. I just Threw Up in my Mouth.
  4. ="metsguyinmichigan"]What the stadium cost to build back in the day doesn't mean squat because that building was torn down in bleeping 1974. How many tax dollars did it cost to build the 30-year-old building they're throwing away?
  5. Quite the opposite field jack.
  6. ="RealityChuck"]Here are the original colors: That orange looks a bit pale to me...
  7. metsmarathon wrote: yeah, unfortunately, the glidden team colors dealie that home depot does doesn't include the mlb, though it does have college, mls, nhl, nfl teams and nascar. so you could luck out and find that one of those teams stole the mets colors... or buy some fancy mets merchandise to bring in for the matching... Well that's the problem. Whatever item I use to match has to be flat in sheen and non-reflective, but also shouldn't be fabric which is not fully opaque. So that rules out all of my stuff basically. I wonder if printouts of these colored squares are flat enough. They may have to do.
  8. You guys rock. Thanks for the help. I'll be sure to post pictures once we get the room painted.
  9. Coverage started at 8 PM... 45 minutes later and they STILL haven't started playing the damn game yet. What a joke.
  10. The wife and I want to paint our 3 year old son's bedroom with the official colors of the Mets -- one orange wall and three blue ones. Unfortunately Home Depot, the "official" paint company of MLB, doesn't have any specific colors in their catalogs for any MLB teams. Which is pathetic. Anyone know how I can get interior paint to match the official Mets blue and orange? Any help is much appreciated. The guy on the phone there suggested I bring in an object (non-fabric) for them to try and match the paint to that object. But I don't know what would be a good object to bring... all of mine seem to be metallic (which reflects) or fabric (shirts, hats, etc.)

    Doh!

I assume the inside of Benigno's head has no words. Just a cartoon picture of a cow playing the violin and tapping its hoof.
  12. ="Vince Coleman Firecracker"]="Benjamin Grimm"]And I wish I could shake this sudden feeling I have that Fernando Martinez is going to turn out to be nothing more than a Matt Lawton. Matt Lawton played for ten years and had a career 105 OPS+ and a .277 EQA, with a few great seasons mixed in. That's not too bad. Better than Alex Ochoa or Alex Escobar. (Fun Fact: Alex Escobar is still playing!) Not that I'd sign up for a Matt Lawton career for Martinez right now, but there are worse scenarios. The problem I have with Omar's "promote from within" strategy is that I don't think any of the organization's top prospects are ready to produce in the majors this year. I suspect Niese, Martinez, Carp, Evans, Murphy and the rest of 'em at AA might all need a full year in NO before they're ready for the bigs. If there's nothing available on the trade market for a reasonable price, and ownership wants nothing to do with Bonds, then there's not much Omar can do except try to sell us on a bunch of college-age kids. That's too bad, cuz the only way I can see this team making the playoffs is if they add a bat to the outfield. Ryan Church might bring that bat, but I think it's a bit much to expect him to carry this team down the stretch after the season he's had. Also, still no mention of Val Pascucci? That should read "a full year in Syracuse." If there's any justice, that is.
  13. Ladies and gentlemen, your National League Player of the Week for July 7-13. Nicely done.
  14. Two words: Mercury Mets.
  15. I like calling him "Fmart" -- pronouncing it like it's one sound. Like I'm trying to say "smart" but flubbing the first letter.
  16. ="metsguyinmichigan"]If you get bored, I blogged on this topic a little this week. My beef is that they didn't do it correctly -- treating the statue as an object and not as a person. If you slapped logos all over something that didn't depict a person, it would look OK. Say the game was in DC. You could do this type of thing to mini Washington Monuments and it would be OK, but not to mini versions of Daniel Chester French's masterpiece of Lincoln. They should have just painted jerseys on the little statues, which would have looked cooler. Painted versions of what Detroit did in 2006 (and does anytime one of its teams in a finals) would be cool. Tough to believe that MLB marketing would kick this one around like A-Rod trying to field a grounder. Those guys are boobs (not the good kind).
  17. batmagadanleadoff wrote: I'm liking Manuel a lot so far. For starters, two starters have really come around since Manuel took over. We've all been watching and reading about Pelfrey's development, especially since yesterday's team shutout over the Rockies. Perez has been even better than Pelfrey over the last two weeks, and is the Mets best pitcher over that time frame. I don't know how much credit Manuel and Warthen deserve for this, if any. Perhaps this is flukey or something that was destined to happen whether or not Randolph was fired. Still, the emergence of Pelfrey and Perez did happen on Manuel and Warthen's watch. As far as what I can directly attribute to Manuel, I can't recall a first inning sacrifice bunt since Randolph's firing. While I don't mind a first inning sac bunt once in a while, especially to throw the opposition off guard, I detested Randolph's virtually automatic non-discretionary sac bunting of the #2 hitter as soon as Reyes lead off a game by getting on base. I'm also happy to see Castro getting more playing time. This came a year too late for the Mets, however. Castro's bat is too potent to be kept on the bench as much as it was under Willie. I also like Manuel's comment about disregarding player salaries when determining who will play. Of course, salary is a sunk cost that has no bearing on future performance. I'd like to see a stronger hitter in the #2 hole, but I'm willing to give Manuel some slack here, recognizing the Mets current injury situation and the players Manuel has to work with. Given the composition of these Mets, Ryan Church would make a terrific #2 hitter, and, if I remember correctly, did bat second in one of the two games he started for Manuel before revisiting the DL. So far, Manuel's been terrific. Met managers, going back to Davey Johnson (an arbitrary cutoff point) have been boom or bust. I loved Johnson and Valentine and considered every other one to be severely flawed in one way or another, if not borderline incompetent. It's unusual for the Mets to land good managerial talent. I wouldn't mind if Manuel stays. The Mets could do a lot worse. I was thinking of starting this same topic here, coincidentally. I agree with all of this. Plus there is the benefit of the "cleansed palate," getting rid of Randolph who stunk of last October no matter what he or anyone else said otherwise.
  18. Normally I stay away from the New York rags as the condescencion and negativism is too much for me. But someone's blog pointed me to this link from the Snooze which has an interesting little tidbit in there. ]Minaya suggested Church's diagnosis lessens the pressure to pursue an outfielder via trade. The Mets also should get Angel Pagan (shoulder) back Thursday, when the second half of the season opens in Cincinnati. And team brass doesn't seem averse to promoting 19-year-old prospect Fernando Martinez during the second half. "That's still the feeling," Minaya said about filling the Mets' void from within.
  19. Pelfrey 5.5 Beltran 1.5 Delgado 1 Reyes 1 Evans 1
  20. Another dominant turn by the Big Pelf.
  21. Yep. Mop up time. Put whomever is the last man in the pen out there. Give everyone else one more day off.
  22. Someone should punch Joe Morgan in the neck.
  23. I will honor the golden arm and bat of Big Pelf himself with my 1000th post.
  24. ="Zvon"] Nice work as always Zvon. Man the Metsies are firing on all cylinders. Stupid All-Star break.
