  1. Rain for seven of the first nine April days and 27 of the 31 in March. Record setting. More predicted for the next 10 days. Levees already breaking in the Delta, and the grounds are swelling-- this could get ugly.
  2. wrong thread, dude.
  3. I'll believe it when I see it-- here's hoping he's true to his word, since Shea was--and is--deserving of appreciation and recognition.
  4. WHEN: Wednesday 26 April 1235 PST WHERE: AT&T Park (for the record, I've seen the Giants play home games in four "different" parks now--Candlestick, PacBell, SBC, and now this-) Note to Mets fans: you can forget about SHEA getting any sort of play in new stadium-- there was a cry to commemorate Croix-de-Candlestick in the new SF ballfield a few years back, but guess what-- not even a Garilc Fry stand carries that name, as EVERYTHING has a corporate sponsor) WHO: The Doc Tees-- me, wife and two daughters (5 yrs and 9 mos.)
  5. ]Val spent his time coining nick names for Mets and not doing his study work.....hope to see him back here though. Agreed- I miss his insight-- reminds me of Filet MiIan. Where'd (s)he ever go??
  6. ]HA! speaking of which, we haven't heard from Valdius since he was reamed by you and Sal Q... Hmmmm... A better explanation is that Val nearly flunked out of college after spending his first semester here rather than in class! Not saying this is what happened, just speculatin'.
  7. Too much black-- bring on the blue and orange.
  8. The Cleveland PA announcer was canned a few years back for playing Whitesnake's "Here I go again" when Angels reliever Chuck Finley entered a agme (he had recently filed assault charges against Tawny Kitane, former gf of lead singer David Coverdale).. And I recall reading that a Brooklyn Dodger organist was ejected for playing "Three Blind Mice" during an umpire meeting at secons base (after one of hte crew had to leave for medical treatment)-- tho this might be apocryphal
  9. Neither was as great as Captain Intangible's "Dive into the Stands". SC= Astronomical
  10. Interesting choices for players to appear at the press conference: I get Beltran, Reyes and Wright, but Anderson Hernandez and Roger Royce Ring?
  11. ]I'm interested in what Willie does in the future. I expect him to pinch hit for Hernandez when it's close & late until Hernandez starts hitting. I'd prefer to see Hernandez stay on the bench in favor of a more accomplished hitter (Jeff Keppinger, anyone??), and then enter games late as a defensive replacement.
  12. My ding-a-ling
  13. I'll be out-of-the-country with limited (if any) internet access for all of July and August. Hence, I'm unavailable for the KTE assigned me-- anyone wanna swap? I live in the Bay Area, so I was thinking a Giants series might allow me to provide some inside analysis--
  14. Agbayani is a very common Filipino name.

  16. ]that's it Aaron just bend over a little more... end of Irish's post ]When a serious hole opens up start of Bret's next post I got nothing to add.

  18. Consecutive lefties? Sacre bleu!
  19. From nymets.com: Second base second fiddle: Two days after Matsui injured his knee and removed himself from second base competition, the Mets played two split-squad games. Anderson Hernandez played second base in the home game, and Jeff Keppinger played second in a game against the Nationals in Viera, far from the eyes of Randolph and most of the staff. The Mets have played five games since then, and Hernandez has started each at second base. Keppinger has played third in some, replaced Hernandez in others and not played in one. Enough said? It should be. Hernandez will be the Mets' second baseman until Matsui's return and, in the minds of some, after Matsui is ready to play again, probably 10 days to two weeks into the season. If Hernandez wasn't the choice, he wouldn't have spent so much time on the left flank of Jose Reyes. Teammates consider Hernandez the best defensive player of the three, Matsui and Keppinger superior to Hernandez as offensive players, and Keppinger the best mix of offense and defense. And some wonder why Keppinger hasn't been give more of chance to win the job.
  20. Let's move Diaz back to second-- (sarcasm content-- high)
  21. Talk about getting a raw deal-- Kepp deserves a shot-- if not here, then somewhere.
  22. With Sosa retired, the Orioles need an outfielder. maybe we could get Kristin and Anna in return?
  23. My apologies: it wasn't Kent, but Jason Giambi whom Shef referred to. As a member of the Oakland A's there was amuch-replayed incident in which Giambi upbraided Tejada for not scoring form second on a single. Giambi received some kudos for this-- but when Modesi did the same vs. Shawn Green it was cast in a whole 'nother light. (again, I may have the particulars fuzzy on the last pair of individuals-- the Shef interview i am citing was with Roy Firestone on ESPN's UpClose.
  24. Gary Sheffield had an interesting take on this a while back, comparing Eric Davis ("injury prone'") to Lenny Dykstra ("nails") . He felt that black athletes were routinely and wrongly held to higher societal standards. IIRC he also spoke about how white athletes who got in teammates faces (Kent) were applauded for leadership while minoroities who did the same (Mondesi) were portrayed as selfish or upstaging their counterparts.
