Bruce Boisclar. Damn, that's a symbol for the late 70s Mets if ever there was one.
  3. Jeremy Affeldt is intriguing. Kind of live arm that Omar is allegedly hot for.
  4. Tiggers decline Edgar Renteria.
  5. Willie not going to Milwaukee, either as the Brewers name former A's skipper Ken Macha as manager.
  6. And there's always Antonio Bastardo and Pete LaCock.
  7. Good, but not quite up to par with Stubby Clapp and Shake Moore.
  8. Bernazard isn't listed as a finalist in this article. Was he?
  9. Mark Prior allegedly ready to test the free agent waters after two years (0 IP) in Sandy Eggo.

  12. Garbage in, Garbage out... (10-10) 16:36 PDT Philadelphia - -- Tommy Lasorda has withdrawn as grand marshal of Sunday's Italian Heritage Parade due to public stink about his selection and because organizers couldn't assure that he would get to Los Angeles in time to see his beloved Dodgers play Game 3 of the National League Championship Series. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- San Francisco Supervisor Michela Alioto-Pier threatened to introduce a resolution calling for Lasorda's ouster from the parade because of the Dodgers-Giants rivalry. Alioto-Pier called the former Dodgers manager "enemy No. 1" in San Francisco. She never introduced the measure. "I'm not going to go. They made a big thing out of it," Lasorda said today as he watched the Dodgers' batting practice in preparation for their game against the Philadelphia Phillies. Alioto-Pier's resolution also called Dodger fans "boastful and smug." Asked if the episode bothered him, Lasorda said, "Sure it did, putting up a resolution to get me not to be the grand marshal. How would you feel? "I wanted to do it because I love San Francisco, I really do. I love the city. We have a rivalry there. What the hell? That's the way it is." He said his decision to withdraw from the parade "has nothing to do with San Francisco and nothing to do with the Italian people." Alioto-Pier, whose office was inundated with calls and e-mails both for and against the resolution after it was reported in the Chronicle's City Insider column, said Lasorda made the right decision. "He's going to be at the Dodgers game. We wish him well," Alioto-Pier said. As for any hard feelings Alioto-Pier said, "I called Tommy Lasorda last week. He didn't call me back. I sent him a box of cannolies. I don't know if he got them yet. "As an Italian he is always welcome in San Francisco," Alioto-pier said. "But let's remember, this is the city of black and orange." Former parade president John Parente was in talks with Lasorda about the grand marshal gig. He said the supervisor's remarks never came up in their conversations. "Officially, Tommy feels his obligation as a Dodger is to be at Dodger Stadium," for Sunday night's game, Parente said. "We were just unable guarantee he would be back in L.A. by game time." The parade had even lined up a police escort to and from the airport - but that wasn't good enough, given possible airline delays. The parade briefly toyed with the idea of having an empty car for the grand marshal. Instead, however, it will honor another prominent Italian American, Joe Garbarino, from Marin Sanitary Service - for his work in garbage recycling.

]With great respect, I don't think you advocating makes Orel a rival. I almost made a comment along those lines before posting but figured what the hell... Very true, and very funny.

I've long advocated Orel as GM...no way Omar adds a potential rival to the staff. Pettis was with Jerry in Chi-Town. I started to write Mazzilli, but didn't want to copy JD, and was too lazy to erase the whole word... figured an Italian-American should get some play this weekend., and -illi became-onne.

    Interviews

Kim Ng, who interviewed for the spot now held by Dodgers GM Ned Coletti, would be the first female GM in the majors.

  19. If you hadn't told me those were from 1987, I'd ve guessed they were from a decade earlier (based on the vehicles in the parking lot).
  20. FK's analysis of Dunn reminds me of another Met LF, Kevin McReynolds.
  21. I'll say it again: four years, four meaningless games. Silver linings. That's all I gots.
  22. Perez can go-- too much angst, not enough performance. if he stays (cheaply) fine, but if we go in to next season DEPENDING on him we are in for some serious heartburn.

    Bad Omens

A bad omen-- just like in the NLCS two years ago.
  24. Solace: Since the start of the 2005 season, the Mets have played 648 regular-season games. They have been in playoff contention at the start of 644 of those. Imagine rooting for a team that's eliminated by Labor Day every year.
