At least re: lineup construction/"explanations" that make me want to scream at someone, anyone, everyone... he definitely has that Young Jerry Manuel smell about him

I'm not sure if I buy it but I'm throwing it out there for consideration. I don't know if any of these things come to pass, but I'm bringing deGrom out for the seventh, and hoping he stays effective enough that I can bring him out for the eighth and ninth too. The fewer the moving parts, the less likely something breaks. If he doesn't, I go with the next-best option. It ain't about the bullpen. It's about the commitment to the bullpen. It's the Peterson Principle. No matter how competent your relievers are, you will promote them to the point of their incompetence.
He was working about as efficiently as a strikeout-y starting pitcher works. 77 pitches through 6 is less than 13 pitches per inning. Just caught a little of the Rojas explanation, and it was full of "maybe" when trying to explain. Like, "maybe that was the reason behind that decision." Like, maybe it's my English-major close-reading-reflex bullshit, but it almost sounds as if it wasn't quite his decision, and he wasn't privy to/couldn't quite explain the reasoning behind it.
Like I said, I know what he said before the game. And, like, it's not like they were "high-stress" innings, either. So unless his philosophy of pitcher management changed in-game...
=Centerfield post_id=59659 time=1617676397 user_id=65] Didn't impress me at all last year. Fucked up game 1 badly. Didn't start Dom. Pulled deGrom too early. Pulled Castro too early. Loup over Lucchesi. Formula over hot hand. I've seen enough. Let's get Beltran.
"Jake's pitching great!" "Yeah, but let's take him out because he hasn't pitched in a game in 2 weeks and it's a long season." "Uh, shouldn't we try and win this game? He's cruising!" "We'll be fine." Here's the thing: Rojas was asked during his afternoon press conference about deGrom, and he was explicit that Jake's pitch count was going to be around 100 today. The words were said, and all.

Right? Like Familia comes in and gives up three straight hits in the 8th to blow it, or something. On the other hand... Jake throwing that kind of slider after handling the Phils through two go-rounds with just the fastball... it's just, like, mean.
Oh, that guy's not retired. And neither is this guy. THAT'll come in another year or two. For now, he hobbles along after a protracted absence, then finds balance in late July: 21 G, 30 IP, 2-4, 3.78 ERA/1.10 WHIP, 10.05 K/2.85 WHIP
I think he gets more of, like, the Trachseloma/Joe Niekritis, where he ends up with more wins than you'd think. 15-7, 4.23 ERA/1.21 WHIP, 9.1 K/9, 2.9 BB/9 in 28 starts.
