  1. Warthen was originally making retirement noises but wanted to come back so as not to go out on such a sour note. Sorry, Dan. His pitchers seemed to like him (especially deGrom & Syndergaard), so he couldn't have been all bad. Wonder if that 'Warthen Slider' he taught had something to do with injuries over the years, though.
  2. I've never seen so many weird injuries. Like Flores fouling a ball off his nose.

  4. It's inevitable that you're going to get stories like this as the season's winding down, and Terry's been a dead man walking for a couple of months now. It's traditional for the Mets to throw people under the bus and run them over a few times. For all his faults, Terry always seemed a straight-up guy, but it's time to move on. I just hope they don't make it any more painful than it needs to be.
  5. I'm OK with keeping them both. There are bigger problems on this team.
  6. I'd fully expect that Terry will be given an 'organizational position' which keeps him getting paid. For all his faults he managed this team to a World Series, and that ain't beanbag.
  7. Zimmo won't have a place in LF if Cespy comes back and he won't have a place in RF if Conforto comes back. He's not the greatest CF in the limited time I've seen him there, but of course comparing him to Lagares is almost unfair. The Mets have a lot of pieces that almost fit. Nimmo. Lagares. Flores. Rivera. They're good but flawed players in one way or another. And they don't quite fit smoothly to make a complete team.
  8. I guess Terry will be making love to his tonic and gin next season.
  9. Might go better if they let Harvey pitch one inning and let Syndergaard finish.
  10. With last night's win, the most losses the Mets can possibly have this year has dropped to 96. Magic number for keeping the Phillies out of 4th place is now 4.
  11. Familia on for the save, just like the old days.
  12. Call it a two-fer.

Well, they've played both kinds of games so far this series. It's one thing to be bad, it's another to be PREDICTABLY bad.

  15. Buck wants real control, something Sandy (or the Wilpons) would never give him. When I see names like Bob Geren being floated, makes you think they're going to want a yes-man at the helm. So Buck can stay content in Birdland.
  16. Certainly wish Evans would get more of a look these last two weeks, even at the expense of the guy who just hit the home run.
  17. I'd prefer neither. But if forced to choose, I choose Reyes. I think Cabrera is one awkward slide away from a wheelchair with those knees. And I want a real third baseman, dammit.
  18. Not a good bet. The Mets were 4-8 against the Reds in 1971.
  19. Rogers Centre does kind of suck. It's like a giant basketball arena with a baseball field in the middle instead. But yeah, Toronto is nice. Tentatively planning that SF trip over Labor Day, though, and weekend trips to see Lefty Jr in April and September in DC. Maybe not September if they're 30 games out, however.
  20. 18-2 the rest of the way gets them to .500. Gotta have goals.

  22. Nimmo batting cleanup again. I'll take 'Words I Never thought I'd Type' for $200, Alex.
