  1. Now that's worthwhile trivia.
  2. You can't really see anybody's hose any more.
  3. Cleared is better than erased.
  4. ...and worth a listen.
  5. Sandy Alderson:
  6. Chin Hu
  7. Antonelli doesn't count because he never actually pitched for the Mets? He was on their roster.
  8. Johnny Antonelli John Candelaria
  9. Met with my writer's group a few weeks ago, and suddenly realized I was sitting with Jim, John, Tom and Ann. What would be the chances with a group 30 years younger?
  10. So tossing in Grover Powell, there's a real good chance the Mets have the franchise record for most Ivy League pitchers.
  11. I like the stirrup look.
  12. OK, Chris Capuano may be a Duke graduate, but if the Mets do land Chris Young, he'll be their 4th pitcher with Ivy League credentials. As it is, they have three -- Ken MacKenzie, Ron Darling, Mike Remlinger. Is this a record? What would be the record for franchise with the most Ivy League players in its history?
  13. I took it to mean consecutive games as a Met.
  14. Doug Flynn?
  15. He will be Capuano di tutti capi.
  16. And don't forget Yalie Ken MacKenzie, Mets class of '62. The first time he took the mound, Casey handed him the ball and said "pretend they're the Harvards." After the '62 season, MacKenzie was complaining to Casey about what he was making. "I've got the lowest salary of any of my classmates at Yale." Casey's response - "And the highest ERA."
  17. And the year of the smart pitcher.
  18. I love this stuff. Where else but here?
  19. I jut can't bring myself to vote for Jeff Kent. My pix for 2013-- Mike and Craig.
  20. Good stuff. But of course there's reason for optimism. It's January!
  21. Moving. My ex-father-in-law had a rocky relationship with his father-in-law, a cantankerous old sort who believed s-i-l was a fool. This all played out in Amsterdam, NY, a stone's throw from Saratoga. One day s-i-l was going to the track, and f-i-l gave him ten bucks to put down on the nose of Jim Dandy, going off at 100-1 against Man-o-War in a match race. S-i-l decided to save the old man ten bucks, and didn't put down the bet. You could look up the result.
  22. God has a plan for me.
