    Evans

I'm guessing the Mets brain trust thinks that Murphy has more of a long term upside than Evans -- that right now Evans is about as good as he's gonna get. Of course, they could be wrong.
  5. Putting the whole team on waivers is not that uncommon. Sometimes a GM will do it to disguise his intentions about the player he really wants to waive.
  6. 1. 2nd Place 2. 89-73 3. wild card 4. Lose in WS 4-2 to Red Sox
  7. Den Dekker another Dutch player?
  8. 6 runs so far in the 4th.
  9. Robinson: Otis Redding
  10. Joe D (Connecticut): Hi Paul, This is great of you to do for the fans. I was wondering what kind of balance you seek between high school and college talent throughout the draft? Do you lean one way or the other? Paul DePodesta: Great question, Joe. Much has been made of the college player over the last decade, but I'm always seeking the best player and/or best bet on the board. That strategy will lead to a blend of college, junior college and high school. Additionally, we have two teams in the Dominican Republic full of high school age players, and we view our system as one big pool of players, not separate entities. Well the answer suggests, does it not, that this was not a great question?
  11. The Philadelphia Phillies have the most loyal fans in Major League Baseball, surpassing the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox, a survey found. The Yankees were second on the baseball index for the second straight year. The Red Sox, No. 1 the previous two years, fell to third. The New York Mets, who fired their manager and general manager after a 79-83 season, tied with the Washington Nationals for 23rd among the 30 major league teams. Bloomberg
  12. Shit. I just wrote a long response to this thread, and when I went to post it, I got a note saying "someone else has just posted -- you may want to reconsider" -- and then my post disappeared.
  13. I tried Googling Steve Colyer, but couldn't get him beyond the end of his baseball career.
  14. I left in the throes of optimism, come back to discover Niese gave up 5 runs in 5 innings.
  15. How do you guys find this stuff out?
  16. 19 pitches, 19 strikes. Is there a split squad? I'm just following it on Gameday.
  17. Mathewson is my favorite, but Cy has the incredible numbers. Who took over in '55? Feller was past his peak. I'd say Warren Spahn, although he was past his peak, too, but not as over the hill as Feller.
  18. Hernandez ss Murphy 2b Hairston cf Davis 1b Evans lf Duda rf Emaus dh Thole c Hu's on third Niese p Ellsbury cf Crawford lf Cameron dh Lowrie ss Drew rf Hoover c Anderson 1b Sutton 3b Spears 2b Only one ex-Met in the Sox lineup. Niese: first 15 pitches, 15 strikes.
  19. Ted over Mickey any day of the week. There should be a Greatest Living Cy Young for pitchers. Which would obviously include Cy Young. And he lived till 1955.
  20. I think he should be. And so should Gil Hodges.
  21. One of the greats.
  22. It's E-mouse? Doesn't rhyme with Linnaeus?
