1. Hopefully, it will lead to some high-quality descriptive narrative.
2. I understand that, after X amount of years, a young franchise without a lot of history had to embrace that, whatever his record, his act was more than anything what gave the franchise it's identity. If you sang a song about the Mets before 1969, he might be the only named person you included. I can't say for certain, but I think, for most expansion franchises, their first retired number is sort of like, "Ummm, OK, I guess, sure, whatever." Apart from Jackie Robinson, the Rays have retired numbers for ... Wade Boggs and Don Zimmer? Ummm, OK, I guess, sure, whatever. Anyhow, good to see you back.

4. NAME: Pete Alonso AGE: 27 POSITION: First Base NUMBER: 20 NICKNAME: Polar Bear, Piss Missile Pete, Pete LaCock fWAR IN 2021: 3.0 ZIPS PROJECTION FOR 2022: 4.0 I'm not a good power hitter. I'm a good hitter. That's what Keith Hernandez says, and Keith knows that sort of stuff. I don't blame you if you have your doubts. I wouldn't be the first hitter who, once becoming a high achieving homerun guy, puts every other concern aside to maintain that status. And I've chased and flailed at the outside slider — sometimes, it seems, for weeks at a time. But in 2.4 seasons, I'm sitting on 106 career homeruns. That's more than Bobby Bonilla or Cliff Floyd or Rusty Staub hit in their entire Met careers, so if that's all you get out of me, I hope you might find a way to be happy with it. Perhaps, more than happy? But the question is whether that's all you get, or will it be more? Or less? The future is now. What do you see? 5. Mets up 3-0 with a .412-hitting Tomás Nido double accounting for one run and an Escobar solo homer plating another. A passed ball just scored a third. Nats are 1-10 this spring and it's starting to matter. Inning ends with Lindor going down chasing.

7. If I'm not mistook, this'll be Robbie's Met debut at the cold corner.
8. Andy Goldberg. You should wrap by asking him a few off-the-record questions about David Newman, and pm-ing the answers to all of us. https://media-exp1.licdn.com/dms/image/C4D03AQGsGq3cH5iq8g/profile-displayphoto-shrink_800_800/0/1639593394340?e=1654128000&v=beta&t=GRg2bYy2-q-cuHuTi6n4UE_c59mTwINgO6ps1nW0Ew4>
9. OMG! Somebody contributed to this thread besides me! And yes! Go Craig Bjornson!!
10. NAME: Max Scherzer AGE: 37 POSITION: Starting Pitcher NUMBER: 21 (brand new number!) NICKNAME: Mad Max, Blue Eye, Brown Eye fWAR IN 2021: 5.4 ZIPS PROJECTION FOR 2022: 4.2 My name is Max Scherzer. I got a name that's teutonic and a pitch that's demonic. Or something. I've been the best pitcher on every ball team I've ever been on. And as otherworldly as Jacob deGrom's half season was last year, you've got to think my full season added up to more. I was #3 in Cy Young voting and I went 7-0 down the stretch after getting dealt to the Dodgers. But maybe pitching in his town takes the heat off of me, and I can conserve myself a little bit. Maybe we learn from each other. Feed off of each other. Maybe we become one big two-headed beast that devours everything in its PATH! Or maybe I pop a tendon and he tears a lat and we all go down in flames. The Mets are forced to crank 195 innings out of Josh Walker and Jeremy Hefner briefly considers unretiriing. That's certainly not the way we're hoping things go. But hope can make you blind to the future. We must look with a cynical eye. Look into that future with me. What does my 2022 look like? 11. The notion of a hot and healthy version of himself carrying his team through the post-season is a glorious movie to watch in my head. I wonder how much a slog these multi-tiered playoffs are going to be.
12. Looking forward to the early exclusive.
13. Most of the weakest outfields up above are the happiest places to hit homeruns. It leads me to conclude that somebody's going to jump at him. But Cincy doesn't tend to jump at anybody, do they?
14. NAME: Francisco Lindor AGE: 28 POSITION: Shortstop NUMBER: 12 NICKNAME: Mister Smile fWAR IN 2021: 2.7 ZIPS PROJECTION FOR 2022: 4.7 Hi, I'm the big acquisition of 2021 wondering why everybody seems to be ga-ga over Max Scherzer and Starling Marte in 2022. But you know ... maybe that's better for me. i got off to a pretty horrible start last year, and never fully recovered from it, but along the way, I showed leadership initiative, defensive acumen, good contact skills, pull power, middling bat speed, mixed plate judgment, old lady hair colors, and apparently the occasional willingness to fight a teammate. Maybe I was hurt. Maybe I was pressing. Maybe the Mets bought a lemon. But I don't think so, and I intend to pull a Carlos Beltran and show the Mets world in year two of my contract what they didn't see in year one. But maybe you've somehow seen 2022 play out in your head already. How does it go down for me? 15. Wilmer Reyes, owner of the second-Metliest name in the Mets' system, strikes out to end it. Lefthanded Mets still refusing to bunt for base hits with the entire left side of the infield vacated.
16. Nogo struggling, but until he came in, five relievers (Ottavino, Smith, Castro, Claudio, Holderman) went five innings giving up no runs on one hit and one waalk, striking out six. All the Mets runs came on a homer by Alonso.
17. Tied at three going into a rare tenth inning in a spring game, Nogosek enters the game rocking a questionable mustache and gives up a two-run homer. https://img.mlbstatic.com/mlb-photos/image/upload/d_people:generic:headshot:67:current.png/w_213,q_auto:best/v1/people/668665/headshot/67/current>

López' actualy nickname is El Asere, but we're not sure what that translates to. It could be "He That Is" or it could be "Ashy One." That's a pretty wide-ranging pair of options, but could be something else entirely. Lucchesi has said he's aiming to come back as a reliever to accelerate his timetable, and is therefore aiming for mid-season. We've heard the likes of that before, however.
19. Sounds like Terry Collins in the booth for the Mets.
20. No notion of whether Baxter will be included?
21. Three lefty throwers/lefty hitters. Krane is going ringless, however. Person in the foreground is also rocking a cane. It's hard to see older Ed Kranepool and not think I'm somehow related to him.
22. NAME: Jacob deGrom AGE: 34 POSITION: Starting Pitcher NUMBER: 48 NICKNAME: deGrominator, deGoat fWAR IN 2021: 4.9 ZIPS PROJECTION FOR 2022: 4.8 Hi, I'm Jacob deGrom. Seeing as we didn't get to this prediction thing until late in the spring season, it seemed best that we start with the most likely to succeed. With all respect to Matt Reynolds and his posse, I guess that's me. I pitch my ass off, but can't get a break. Sometimes it's run support. Sometimes, it's injuries. Sometimes, it's managers yanking me before I've finished my work. And sometimes, it's a failure of bullpen performance. Often enough, it's some combination of all of the above. But I'm terrific. My slider is merciless, my fastball is inexplicable, my changeup is unfair, and my curve is something I keep under my bed for an emergency. I should have twice my career total of 77 wins by now, but somehow I've kept my smile. I'm pitching for a big payday this year, but the pressure isn't really on, because even if I don't have a great season, I already have a killer contract I can hang onto. That's a pretty good situation, but after an other-worldly first half of 2021, I disappeared in the second half, almost literally. And it wasn't even one catastrophic event. It was just a game-by-game situation that went on for, like, 85 games. I'm not sure I understand it myself. But I'm back out there now. With Harvey, Matz, Wheeler, Syndergaard, all gone, I'm out there. How long and how strong? You tell me. Predict my 2022, damn it! 23. Le Grande Orange returns to Parc Jarry. Great stuff from some budget show.
24. Curious that Rock presented this award, having appeared briefly in the film.
25. The Mets are so good, even Zach Pop couldn't stop 'em! It's a 10-0 lead in the top of the eighth.
