    Rather than doing some sort of sledgehammer swing, now, when the Mets get base hits (or at least on Baty's double just now), they do some sort of Spider-Man webshooter gesture. Which, if I'm interpreting it correctly, has some Queens pedigree in it, which is nice.

    Bo Bichette back out there despite whatever went down with his shoulder yesterday. The only concession the Mets make to a Sunday day game, in fact, is moving Soto to DH.     Enjoy. Elian is not only the top prospect on the team, but at just 18, he may be their best player, rocking a .409 OBP. Slugger Randy Guzman is also bringing it. Top starter Emilo Obispo is not an actual bishop.

    Brooks Raley had had two sweet days off, but Mendoza went to Warren, presumably for the right-on-right matchups. Soto's lineout double-play killed.

    Good pitch to swing at on 3-1, but I'd still have him taking. This guy threw 17 pitches last night.

    He's not even Senger. He's had the lion's share of the starts at catcher. He just has had the most awful season. But hey, Bichette's shoulder is OK enough to turn on the high pitch.

    That lead-turning homer was to perhaps the worst hitter in the league.

    Well, Austin Warren seems like a bad idea.

    Mendoza holding off on the hook and Semien swinging the bat puts McLean in a position to exit the game with a lead.

    This guy is Randy Myers. That sort of heat from the left side is harsh.

    Also a good time for Soto to abandon his series strategy of turning over and grounding to second as often as possible.

    Will Waggy bat for Young against this guy?

    That wince by Bichette sure looks like the type of pain that could compromise a man on defense and at the plate (leading off the next inning).

    Re-acquire Antoan Richardson. Or, on the other hand, be mindful running against Freddy Fermin.

    It's awesome. I also want to throw props to this St. Louis Browns logo of an existentially heroic batter leaning back and swinging his bat defiantly at the whole damned sky.

    There was a lot of discussion of that when he made the Hall of Fame in 1999, and again in 2009 at the 40th anniversary of the team's first championship. There are other money quotes in the article. It amounts to the notion that he'd have liked to stay, but his career happened the way it happened and its hard to say it could have happened another way.
