  1. Ex-Mets from Cubland include Marcus Stroman and … that's about it. But Mark Leiter, Jr., has an uncle who was a Met and a dad who was a spring training Met. Catcher Wilson Contreras, whose non-acquisition at the trade deadline was the source of much gnashing, is on the Great List of the Injured. Four-game Met Andy Green coaches the bench, and one-time banjo-hitting fifth outfielder Willie Harris coaches third. Princetonian ex-Met Chris Young minds the bullpen.
  2. Sorry, Steve. I guess it speaks to when I paid attention most (my junior year of college) that the three guys I got were all 1988 Dodgers.
  3. Jazzy Orosco wore the right hat in 1986, and the wrong one in 1988.
  4. I'll stick with the 1988 Dodgers, Alex. "Who is Orel Hershiser?"
  5. https://www.thegoodphight.com/2021/9/9/22652255/road-teams-are-surprisingly-benefitting-from-mlbs-extra-innings-ruleHere's some verification from The Good Phight, at least of the latter number, though re-running the math quickly, I'm getting a .534 winning percentage, instead of .536. I hope to dig further later, but the real world calls.
  6. Some Guy on the Internet.TM I'll try to independently verify.

  8. =MFS62 post_id=106981 time=1663005636 user_id=60]I had hoped the Mets would keep Al Jackson on the 1969 post-season roster. He pitched for them briefly that year.
  9. The distance between bases decreases by 5.5 inches. As for the Manfred Man, from 2016 to 2019, the away team had a .485 winning pct. in extra innings. In the last two years, the away teams have had a .536 winning pct. So we're looking at something like the difference between a Bobby Valentine Mets team and a Joe Frazier Mets team. I think this goes down as a "changing the integrity of the game" issue.

Stearns, though, got to drink his mead as a post-season coach. I think that takes us to Brandon Nimmo who, God willing, should be able to cross post-season baseball off his list this year. Among those who'd have to unretire or join a coaching staff to swim in the Mets post-season fountain, I'm going to take Johan Santana as the best.

  12. Thanks. I've re-submitted for 9/1, and now I'll resubmit for 8/31. I'm a bad voter.
  13. Well, shit. It's not this one, but the 8/31 game that Nimmo made the game-saving catch.
  14. Benjamin Grimm wrote: http://potg.leaptoad.com/mets/images/schaefer28.jpg> http://potg.leaptoad.com/mets/index.phpCast your vote! Can we toss my vote out for this game? I realize I totally screwed over Brandon Nimmo.
  15. Good point. Maybe it's a Beatles concert with no admission on the field.
  16. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Illinois, the 21st state, entered the Union on December 3, 1818. It's known as the state that doesn't paint yard-lines on its football fields. https://designshop-6aa0.kxcdn.com/photos/usa-illinois-send-vintage-greeting-card-16537_86.jpg> Now that's curious. It's like a football field, but they don't seem to be playing football. No goalposts, no gridiron markings, about six or seven on a side, and the non-playing members of the team appear to be positioned at the ends of the field instead of on the sidelines. Also, silos inside the stadium, ruining all views for the seats at the north end! Illinois! It's the state where folks love their football or handball or lacrosse or hurley or siloball or something! I'm guessing that's a representation of Soldier Field before the upper tiers were added?
  17. It's very much a thing with Buck in that he's the anti-Jerry Manuel. He won't spend his bullets "chasing the win," and if that means using lesser relievers down by one to a last-place team, so be it. It's not necessarily a give-in approach, but it certainly is challenging the back-enders to step up in such games. If they don't come through, well he's got the team in a good position to take the series anyhow. I'm not sure it's the philosophy I'd go forth with — once the post-season happens, you certainly can't let a game go without throwing everything at it — but the Mets' winning percentage in series certainly endorses his approach, even if that meant losing Game One to the Bucs and Fish before stomping them out in the next two.
  18. So fart, mebbe, but there's still some road ahead.
  19. He hit some balls well. The booth had a point that it's a tougher draw, mentally, to make your debut as a DH.
  20. Seattle took the Braves' best punch and won. That's great. And if you need an American League girlfriend to root for, you can't do any better. They're loaded with ex-Mets, they have castoffs from other teams (and yes, that includes the Mets) playing like stars and picking each other up, they've been out of the post-season longer than any other team, and two years ago, a dozen or more cultists kept trying to convince me that the whole city had been burned to the ground by Black Lives Matter protestors and Antifa.
  21. And Nido SLAMS one to center as I submit that post.
  22. The Mets have alternated starters at catcher every other game since 8/30, when McCann played two games in a row with a day off in between. As they are both swinging better at the same time, I feel confident that we'll see more of the same.
