  1. Escobar is really upper-cutting up there.
  2. McNeil/Escobar/Ruf/Nido this inning. All have reached already tonight.
  3. Momofuko Ando was the inventor of instant ramen. Naming your high-end Japanese restaurant after him is like naming your fine Italian establishment "Boyardee's."
  4. =Marshmallowmilkshake post_id=107352 time=1663204129 user_id=119] Who knew that Marte makes all the difference? When is he coming back????
  5. Why is Indiana called "The Hoosier State"? There was once a contractor named Hoosier employed on the Louisville and Portland Canal who preferred to hire laborers from Indiana. They were called "Hoosier's men" and eventually all Indianans were called Hoosiers.
  6. We need to call Cub Busters.
  7. We're on a solid pace to give up 162 runs this evening. The good news is, not having batted, we don't yet have an offensive projection.
  8. In what may or may not some day be called the Luis Guillorme Rule, Rawlings announced yesterday that a https://www.si.com/fannation/mlb/fastball/news/rawlings-gold-glove-award-utility-players10th Gold Glove Award has been added to each league to honor the outstanding defensive utility player in the circuit. 9. I hope Mark Vientos does well, but him batting fifth is not something I've advocated for.
  10. I'm sure it's happened several times, but most recently, in 2020, Michael Conforto and Dom Smith were both in the top 10.
  11. Freddy Freeman finished his evening with a 1-for-4, while Paul Goldschmidt took an 0-for-4 collar and our own Jeff McNeil had a 2-for-4 night. Freeman's one hit was a homerun, while McNeil's most consequential trip to the plate involved grounding into a double-play while first-pitch swinging, so yeah, Freeman win's the night, but McNesbit gains meaningfully in the batting average race, pulling ahead of Goldschmidt and bearing down on Freddie. Where Mets Rank Staff is projecting that McNeil now needs four more hits than Freeman over the remaining 19 games to beat him for the batting average crown. 👑 ⚾️ National League Batting Average, 2022 1) Freddie Freeman (STL): .329 2) Jeff McNeil (NYM): .323 3) Paul Goldschmidt (LAD): .322 4) Trea Turner (LAD): .305 5) Manny Machado (SD): .302 6) José Iglésias (STL): .300 7) Nolan Arenado (COL): .299 8) Alec Bohm (PHI): .293 9) Starling Marte (NYM): .292 10) Nico Hoener (LAD): .291 Starling Marte, for what it's worth, needs about 19 hits more than Freeman going forward to take the batting title.
  12. You see all the best stuff.
  13. It's just interesting in that players now have to be pre-declared either hitters or pitchers even if they do something else. MLB is acting like software. You're either a zero or a one. I guess I need to root against the Mets acquiring Shohei Ohtani, because he'd blow up the Schaefer engine.
  14. Benjamin Grimm wrote: It did. That sounds like an executive decision was made! Also, despite the seeming paradox, I kind of agree with it.
  15. Well, the Mets have mastered solo homers in the ninth to cut four-run losses into three-run losses.
  16. If they get the tying run to the plate here, it'll be Guillorme. OE: And Ruf comes out to bat for him.
  17. Well? Do we get extra runs if a homer goes really far?
  18. And he comes out swinging. D'oh!
  19. Two walks for Nimmo already. A new pitcher who threw a bunch already yesterday. Take a McStrike.
  20. Mets are sleepwalking. Buck should've gotten himself tossed.
  21. No, I wouldn't say it does.
  22. I could totally score four runs in two innings. More even.
  23. Did Ruf's pitching mopup work actually go into his Bench Player of the Month totals?
  24. My new theory is that it's JFK, Jr. who had visited with Willie in the Mets dugout a few years earlier, and is here back, somehow passing as an adult as he approaches his 18th birthday, using his name to get on the field and hang with the Mets' star centerfielder and legendary coach, rocking the number 60 in honor of his birth year. Reconciling that, which is already the stretchiest of stretches, with the autograph, is ... not something I'm about to pull off.
