  1. Great to see McLean pitch his way out of that inning, but Ramon De Jesus gave him a handful of questionable and worse calls that inning.
  2. I'm not sure why hamate surgery would slow a player. Gary is over-proud of his objectivity, and tends to bet against the Mets when a call goes to review.
  3. I feel like we don't need the strike zone box on the screen anymore. Before the challenge system, that box was the only sense of justice against the ump we had, but now if I don't like the ball-strike call, it's on the player to challenge it and not the ump.
  4. The sweeper is falling consistently over the plate but below the knees. Curve is workin', though.
  5. Brett Baty gets to use a glove today, swapping jobs with Jorge Polanco.
  6. A lefty-heavy Pirate lineup noticeably lacking an Ozuna factor. # PITTSBURGH POS. # NEW YORK POS. 1 Oneil Cruz (L) cf 1 Francisco Lindor (S) ss 2 Brandon Lowe (L) 2b 2 Juan Soto (L) lf 3 Bryan Reynolds (S) dh 3 Bo Bichette (R) 3b 4 Ryan O'Hearn (L) rf 4 Jorge Polanco (S) dh 5 Jared Triolo (R) ss 5 Luis Robert, Jr. (R) cf 6 Spencer Horwitz (L) 1b 6 Brett Baty (L) 1 7 Nick Gonzales (R) 3b 7 Marcus Semien (R) 2b 8 Henry Davis (R) c 8 Carson Benge (L) rf 9 Jake Mangum (S) lf 9 Luis Torrens (R) c Carmen Mlodzinski (R) sp Nolan McLean (L) sp
  7. Garcia and L. Garcia are going to end up pitching a lot as long as the powers that be are convinced they are two different peoples.
  8. They were both of a piece, though. That's a double for seemingly 99% of the players in the league, and if Ozuna is in the 1%, then he should be going for it anyway to either (a) draw the cutoff and help get Reynolds home, or (b) be in scoring position after the throw goes through. Both base coaches were working in cahoots with the Mets there, but the replay that showed Ozuna heading down the line made him look like a penguin that somebody put a poorly fitting and itchy pair of pants on.
  9. I imagine Manaea is (a) saved for last, (b) possibly not somebody they want to use in the cold. I think he's got a good chance to appear out of the pen in the next two games.
  10. The Mets attempt to run the Pirates out of town winless, as they break the seal on Nolan McLean 2026. On the assault for Pittsburgh will be Carmen Mlodzinski. Carmen has been a solid to good swingman type that the Buccos are trying to establish as a full-time starter. Looked really good down the stretch in 25. Strong guy, thick lower half. Sinker/slider. Sort of a dictionary modern righthander, but known to tinker with his arsenal. Nolan McLean looked pretty good down the stetch in 25, too.
  11. The children have a hero they can look up to.
  12. Gosh, is Ozuna really that bad a baserunner?
  13. Checked swings in such situations are deadly.
  14. That was about $110 million worth of Mets that Barco just got through there.
  15. Semien should have come in standing up there.
  16. Young running for Vientos. Empty Met bench.
  17. Semien might have helped the Mets more by dodging that pitch.
  18. I remember that weird daisy-shaped neck tat, with his Adam's apple at the center. It underscored how out of alignment his neck is.
  19. Brooks Raley looks glorious, but only gets 11 pitches.
