If you mean to imply that Brandon Nimmo is in that theoretical group, as you certainly seem to, he's neither on a pace to strike out 170 times nor is he a "non-power hitter," so he certainly isn't in that group at all. Your comments about what "Met fans love" is just a straw-man argument.

Adding Gott to the roster gives them 27, so somebody will have to be removed. We're suspecting a T.J. McFarland DFA, but a lot can happen between now and then. We won't post the roster until we have clarity. When Gott is going good, he's got a wicked two seamer that dances up in the zone. He started off this year great, but he developed some back problems. With one more veteran reliever added, there's reason to suspect a further trade or two to thing things out in those ranks. Edwin Uceta had already been rehabbing with Syracuse, so his being added to the 60-Day is probably just a matter of housekeeping, to delay having to remove anybody else from the roster for a few days, rather than a re-injury. Elieser Hernandez came over from the Marlins in the trade that brought in Jeff Brigham, so it'll be nice to see them in the same bullpen. He also starts, but with injury already wiping out half his year, we suspect the Mets have no plans to use him as such in 2023.
  4. =smg58 post_id=130733 time=1688427600 user_id=62] I'd be willing to offer Flexen a team option for next year at something like $4M or a half million buyout, so that he accepts the demotion and maybe we can get the 2022 Flexen back before this season is out. Worst case scenario, we're out a little bit more money. Otherwise, I can see the point of spending money instead of a prospect (even a borderline one) to get a reliever who'll still be under team control next year, but I'm not sure Gott is worth the trouble. That being said, I wish their was some way to pair Gott with Tim Teufel.
  5. T.J. McFarland may be the bar.
  6. .328 / .387 / .612 // .999 To say Julio is coming back down to Earth is technically true. But "Earth," in this case, means the peak of Everest. And if he's not performing all the time at peak level, it's only because, like Will Hunting doing higher-level math at MIT, he's just bored with the idea that the game is supposed to be so damned challenging. Friday night against the DSL Giants, he went 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBI. It was his third three-hit game in his brief career. He's struck out eight times in 76 trips to the plate. And again, that's only because he sometimes gets bored.
  7. "Chris, we've made a deal, and are trading you to the Mets." "YAY! I'm going home!" "I haven't finished yet, Chris."
  8. It's not the distinction you aim for, but Nimmo's got a real chance to pass Mookie Wilson as the all-time most-accomplished Met to never represent the team as an All-Star.
  9. Paul Konerko is a good one. I'm not particularly sure I wasn't thinking of Paul Konerko when I guessed Adam LaRoche. I conflate that way.
  10. Darren O'Day is apparently not a bird that is a cardinal/oriole hybrid. Adam Laroche is apparently not a piece of hosiery that is both a white sock and red stocking. Carney Lansford is apparently not an athletic who garnered 200 hits in a season. All of that is disappointing, but it's mostly offset by delight in successfully experimenting as to whether a St. Louis Brown can be passed off as a Baltimore Oriole. Apparently, yes! 11. They gain on the four teams immediately ahead of them in league-wide standings, catching San Diego, pulling within a game of Chicago, and squeezing within a game and a half of Pittsburgh. Plus we get to enjoy a third undefeated July day tomorrow. If you want to root for someone, I recommend rooting for Milwaukee over the Cubs.
  12. Guillorme as a defensive sub at third for Baty is a nu thing, right?
  13. Breathing room in the ninth would be a nice help.
  14. Don't like seeing J.D. up here. Or anybody.
  15. Oh, shmook, bases loaded. We need hit-by-pitch reform.
  16. And, I guess it may or may not be worth mentioning a second time, but that's the EeeEssPeeEnn you get after making sweeping firings to their on-air staff last week. Don't like seeing Wilmer up here.
  17. This has to be the Mets' most Texas Leaguiest game in years.
  18. I'll take soft dubbles from Alonso.
  19. Hold the Giants, or my bowels?
  20. The thought of that J.D. Davis trade is stuck in my bowels.
  21. Howie Rose asking if there's ever been a better sports movie than Slapshot. Not to be disagreeable, but ... yeah. And it starred Jackie Earle Haley.
  22. =kcmets post_id=130653 time=1688344237 user_id=53] E: I see you've had ten baseball broadcasting jobs from AA to MLB. A: Yes, I've paid my dues. E: As you climbed up the ladder, did you leave to move on to greener pastures or were you let go from previous employers? A: To be honest, I lost my last three jobs because I was told that I annoyed the (fucking) shit out of listeners with my commentary. E: Excellent! That's we strive for here at Sunday Night Baseball. Have your guy contact our gal and we'll work out the contract numbers.
