  1. Well, we're getting some consistent starting pitching through a full turn the rotation for the first time since ... all year?
  2. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Disgraceful teamwork exhibition Scherzer needed his Spider-Tak.
  3. Álvarez wasn't in the way, Gary Cohen. Scherzer was.
  4. I'll take it. I'll take those two homers along with it.
  5. I'm kinda thinking a sinkerballer would be a good day to sit Vogelbach, who is mashing the high pitch but doing nothing (often not even moving his bat) with anything below the waist. Maybe put McNeil at DH and start Guillorme at second.
  6. That's "Parisian" Bob Caruthers, Gary. A two-way star who looked like he weight 140 soaking wet.
  7. I was away for a moment. How did McNelt get to second base?!

  9. Adrian Houser takes on Max Scherzer in a steel cage death match.
  10. Just checked and ... https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/MON/MON198404250.shtmlnot quite. Palmer did face the Mets in his next start after the mini-perfect game (el perfectito) and pitched seven shutout innings against Dwight Gooden, but his extended perfection only continued for 3 1/3 more innings before Ron Gardenhire brought the pain with a one-out single.
  11. David Palmer DID get something of an asterisk when his perfect game went only five innings before the rain ended the game early. MLB initially recognized the game as part of the official list of perfectos, but later reversed the decision, which must've stung a little bit, especially since (if I'm correctly recalling) he had originally made good (in a sense) by going out and throwing four perfect innings to begin his next start, against the Mets (again, if I'm recalling correctly).
  12. As far as the history of psychological warfare goes, that tweet was a hell of a move by Stroman.
  13. Mentioned in another thread, but deserves its own note, however bitterly — Domingo German pulled off the 24th perfect game in MLB history last night. Frayed Knot asked if it should come with an asterisk, as it was against the 2023 A's, but he's joining something of a proud team tradition of the powering up on the hapless, as David Wells' perfect showing came against the 1998 Twins and David Cone's against the 1999 Expos. Neither team had a record as awful as the one this year's Athletics seem to be careening toward, but both were largely undistinguished squads. (No offense, Vladdy.) And hey, Jim Bunning needed to call on the 1964 Mets to leave his mark on history.
  14. That's a lot of assuming.
  15. The schedule now has the Mets facing all 29 of the other teams, so unless he's injured, one has to think Ohtani comes to Citifield to play eventually.
  16. For what it's worth, every team moves bullpen backenders back and forth from their AAA team. The Mets would be doing that with Edwin Diaz available or without him. They're 22nd in relief ERA, but then again, they are 25th in starter ERA, so what should have been done, I'm not sure. Drawing from one resource naturally tends to affect others, and 29 other teams are openly out to break your heart, so it's not that easy a call.
  17. Who do you pinch hit for Canha, if anybody? Vogie, Guillorme, or Narváez? It's likely Vogie, but I have a Guillorme temptation.
  18. Shmalvarez is taking movies up there.
  19. Damn, Jeff, knock that down.
  20. If you start a swinging motion, but your bat isn't really in the hitting zone, and you get hit in the hands, there's no way you're going to be able to halt the bat's forward motion. But that shouldn't really make it a swing, I think. I think they got the right call there.

And just as the gazelle needs his speed as protection from the pack of hungry lions, your family needs protection from Mutual of Omaha I looked Marlin up a few days ago. As far as I could tell from my initially internetting, the guy never got a zoology degree. He was just really into snakes, and he got a gig when he was young cleaning out the reptile house, and worked his way up to big-shot zoo director.
  22. Canha batting for himself, because he might get up again, and the Brews have one more lefty in their pen. Mendick isn't as much a concern. Good call by Buck on both counts, as Canny muscles a hit but McNeil grounds out pinch-hitting.
  23. Use Sensi-Care Skin Cream if you've got Yell-Itch.
