  1. Life in the ninth as Lindy Hop leads off with a hit. Tying run at the plate = Alonso.
  2. McNeil and Lindor may end up fighting again tonight.
  3. But the side struck out in the top of the eighth. A tough climb ahead in the ninth, but it's the heart of the order due up.
  4. We've had Fordham, Manhattan, and Quinnipiac alums pitching in this series. We need a Canisius.
  5. As the Mets finally get in the scoring column on a solo shot by Álvarez, it's starting to look like the Mets may be sending the wrong guy to the Home Run Derby.
  6. Three strikeouts to get the side in the fifth for Peterson. Let's get him off the hook.
  7. And Baty seems to have forgotten he has tender hammy the last two games.
  8. Starling Marte's pitch judgment has been pretty lousy all season, and I'm glad that Darling finally said so. He just struck out swinging at Ball Four twice.
  9. Snell seems to have the Mets guessing. Not, like, educated guesses, either.
  10. The Mets are actually supposed to pick at #22, but got docked 10 slots by spending too much bonus $$ last year. Stupid stuff.
  11. In 1994 and 1995, he was sliding toward mediocrity with the Sox. When they weren't interested in signing him to a multi-year deal anyhow, he was PISSED. He signed a four-year contract with Toronto, and out of nowhere, pitched the best two seasons of his life, winning the CYA both years. To my thinking, he was juiced to the gills and felt justified in it, because fuck the world. The Yankees felt differently, because they backed up the truck in trading for him, including sending over fan-fave David Wells. Or maybe they didn't feel differently, and felt that 'fuck the world' was all very on brand. Once, when Clemens was having a tough time on the mound at Yankee Stadium, the fans chanted "Boomer! Boomer!" to declare their preference for Wells, and one of the Yankees actually called Wells up and held the phone up so Wells could hear the chanting.
  12. Senga would be the Mets' first Asian-born All-Star. The selection also boosts his Rookie of the Year profile.
  13. Blake Snell being a lefty would suggest that Narváez sits.
  14. Stieb did not win 20 for the Blue Jays. I unfortunately learned that the hard way this morning. I also learned that it is, in fact, "Stieb," and not "Steib," as I first thought.
  15. Yeah, but in Greg's poll, my vote counts as much as any chick's, and in 1998 https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=1b&stats=bat&lg=nl&qual=y&type=8&season=1998&month=0&season1=1998&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=1998-01-01&enddate=1998-12-31Olerud out-fWARred 'em all, save for McGwire. He was https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=1b&stats=bat&lg=nl&qual=y&type=3&season=1998&month=0&season1=1998&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=1998-01-01&enddate=1998-12-31#2 in WPA also. If we could factor in 2023-quality defensive metrics, that might well close the gap considerably.
  16. Not a lot of great options at catcher. Pretty much, when a Met catcher has deserved to be an All-Star, he's been an All-Star, and perhaps once or twice when he didn't quite deserve it. Most of the other categories were hard has heck, though. I've long been trumpeting how good Clendenon's 1970 is, for instance, but how does one deny a chance to give Olerud's 1998 its due? 17. Tampa looked as unbeatable early in the season as the Braves look now, but their lead over the [CROSSOUT]Yankees[/CROSSOUT] [CROSSOUT]Red Sox[/CROSSOUT] [CROSSOUT]Blue Jays[/CROSSOUT] ORIOLES(!!) is now down to three games.
  18. That also puts the Mets ahead of the Padres in the Wild Card standings, having already passed Pittsburgh and the Cubs during this streak.
  19. Well, I apparently pissed off Manny Machado, because something happened while I was in the toilet.
  20. San Diego has four shortstops in their lineup, but the Mets' shortstop has outplayed 'em all.
  21. Gary Sanchez' glove is doing its thing.
  22. It's almost certain they won't do it, but the Mets now have the option of batting Baty for Pham against Honeywell.
