1. Also, keep your eyes on the road and hands upon the wheel, Bucket.
2. Quintana is getting a half-hour rest before every inning too.
3. Nido may make his Cubs debut as a pitcher. He'd be the second former Met this season to be put in the awkward position of debuting against his former team by throwing mopup lobs.
4. =kcmets post_id=159943 time=1718997109 user_id=53]7-1
5. Alternative tops makes the Mets dugout look like it's filled with Cubs, and the Cubs dugout look like it's filled with Mariners. Also, I love a bunt single.
6. The Mets may have to hire this Imanaga guy for batting practice. Or perhaps hire the Wrigley weather.
7. Francisco Álvarez, possibly seeing the ball better in daytime baseball.
8. The idea that everybody sees the ball better in daytime baseball is clearly overstated, but it's like, in the first inning so far, everybody's seeing the ball well.
9. J.D.'s current role seems to be taking RBI opportunities away from Alonso.
10. One thing I've noticed about the way Stearns operates is that he has shown a good ability to replace a guy before he has to — including getting Hudson knowing well before that he'd probably lose Nido or Torrens when Álvarez came back. And he may well have been anticipating this paternity leave assignment.
11. Both managanagers stacking their lineups with righties. 12. I also tend to think that 30 out of 30 teams would rather pay one thirtieth of a court award (or, more likely, an out-of-court settlement) than to be the one that pays the guy $25 million a year to pitch for them and takes the pr hit for the league. I, lastly, tend to think that, if a team elected to step up and sign him — both to save the league from a lawsuit and in an attempt to improve their roster — that team would be the Mets.
13. No, he's not banned. James' argument, which I tend to reject (mostly, anyhow), is that his initial suspension damaged his reputation to the point where it made him unhire-able, therefore the league may be liable for the wages lost from his sidetracked career. He appealed his suspension — after hundreds of days had passed — under the terms of the basic agreement, and the arbitrator, as they almost always do, split the difference and cut his suspension to 194 days, making him immediately available to be signed. Courts have always been been loathe to get involved in suspensions, reasoning that the terms of the basic agreement stipulate that the appeal to an independent arbitrator is final.
14. X Angel sounds like Marvel's attempt at a dark, grunge-era superhero.
15. =DocTee post_id=159739 time=1718815672 user_id=85] I read that the Mets are 17-1 in the last 18 in which Francisco Alvarez appeared. If true, that's damn impressive.
16. A vote for Clemens or Rodriguez is hard to justify, because Bonds kind of laps them both (as he laps anybody else alive) in career value, and pretty much any argument to pre-emptively eliminate him from consideration would eliminate those two also. Maybe that was the chink in Mays' armor. He could have been a better godfather.
17. Float like a butterfly ... down to Miami in a non-waiver cash deal for an undisclosed sum and immediately outrighted to Jacksonville.
18.
19. Well, that was expected. As rough a patch as Leody was in, he was getting around on everything.
20. Well, I'll take the blame on that one.
21. I'm enjoying the non-shutout no-hitter we have going.
22. Frayed Knot wrote: Heavy has thrown fewer pitches thru three innings than Manaea did in the 1st alone. Heavy is the head that wears the crown.
23. I've got a wild card for the discussion: Sadaharu Oh — 84 years young, with successful careers as a manager and as an executive following his legendary playing days.
24. Edwin Jimenez' calls are what has been most horrible. I'm launching a gambling investigation against him.
25. Yeah, there are some holes in Mr. Pierce's angle.
