1. A rapid 6-4-3! A steal indeed!
2. Peterson seems to be working with a 90-pitch cap. Ron says Huascar Brazobán has been a steal. Show me, please.
3. Reading Austin Adams' lips.
4. I didn't know Peterson had 96.
5. Peterson at 70 pitches entering the sixth is a pretty good situation, but a leadoff dubble probably wasn't part of the plan.
6. Bad send gets Gamel pegged at the plate, but it's cool to seem Mike Cameron watch his son make the play.
7. HUGE bomb by Alonso. It interrupted the interview with Mike Cameron, and they almost forgot to go back to him.
8. Beautiful three-pitch strikeout of Gelof with the tying runs in scoring position. He's got three walks but he's throwing that fastball with confidence for strikes when he has to.
9. Gary and Ronnie making cracks about the Chris Christie/GW Bridge scandal, forgetting perhaps that Christie is now one of their bosses.
10. Raise a glass to the two grumpy-looking guys in SELL t-shirts behind home plate.
11. Nice to see Estes get taken deep after getting called out by the booth for being a dick.
12. Yeah, but McNuggles popped out to. I was looking for the squeeze.
13. Ron reporting Rusty Staub's opinion that Mark Fidrych had a more incredible rookie season than Gooden. That's something.
14. The crowd doesn't seem quite so enthusiastic so far, but they perked up after Peterson got that third out — not getting the call on two pitches but still getting a foul tip strikeout on the 3-2 count.
15. The key lime pie in this lineup is J.D. Martinez coming right back after exiting early yesterday following a pitch off of his elbow, along with Alonso being back out there after eating a piece of last night's infield.
16. Is there another game today?
17. Well, the Braves had been cooperating most nights of late. They couldn't expect that to last forever.
18. Cubbage's first MLB hit was a grand slam. His final year in baseball was scouting in 2020 for The Nationals. Done in by the Covid-19 lockdown, he was able to walk away with a championship ring. Apparently, Jay Horwitz stayed in touch with him throughout his career, because of course he did. In a story shared The Charlottesville Daily Progress, Frayed Knot's periodical of choice, Horwitz recalls going to say hi to Cubbage when he was coaching for Houston. Cubbage was the kind of guy who would greet an old pal by throwing a couple of fun sparring punches at him, but Mike landed one in Jay's midsection, and Jay walked off with a cracked rib. A couple of accounts have listed Cubbage's record as interim Mets manager as 7-5, which would give him a .583 winning percentage, second only to Davey Johnson in team history, but baseball-reference says he went 3-4 (.429), which puts him back in Jeff Torborg territory.
19. Well, they found five runs of offense, which eclipses the output in the Seattle series. The Syracuse Mets went down 8-1, which is more like the Mets in Seattle. They lost to a guy named Brzykcy.
20. But first-pitch swinging from your best on-base guy isn't going to get it done.
21. OK, it can happen in the ninth. It's happened before.
22. Damn, it's rough right now to get some runners on with two out and see Álvarez coming up, but that was a surprisingly decent effort at taking the outside pitch the other way. Not decent enough, sadly.
23. If that nose isn't broke, it's because the brim of his hat broke some his momentum into the face plant. And the brim being driven into your forehead hurts like a mofo also. He was totally disoriented trying to get up.
24. I think we might have a busted nose.
