  1. All that slugging this weekend, even with names like Wagaman and Pache bounced into the lineup. But now Brett Baty and Jorge Polanco are back to get theirs. AJ Ewing, too. The notion of Brett Baty in left field seems to be shelved for the time being. Beginning Thrower Zac Thornton LHP 2-2, 2.88 ERA, 24 SO Lineup A.J. Ewing (L) CF Francisco Lindor (S) SS Bo Bichette (R) 3B Carson Benge (L) LF Jared Young (L) 1B Marcus Semien (R) 2B Brett Baty (L) RF Jorge Polanco (S) DH Luis Torrens (R) C Introductory Slinger Carmen Mlodzinski RHP 6-3, 3.15 ERA, 76 SO Lineup Jake Mangum (S) CF Brandon Lowe (L) 2B Bryan Reynolds (S) LF Esmerlyn Valdez (R) RF Spencer Horwitz (L) 1B Nick Gonzales (R) 3B Ronny Simon (S) DH Jared Triolo (R) SS Rafael Flores Jr. (R) C
  2. It'd take a more sophisticated UMDB dataquery than I know how to write in order to figure out the Mets' all-time winners and losers by this metric, but my money is on Dicky Gonzalez for the high and Al Leiter for the low.
  3. If we're allowing batters into this matchup, we're gonna get our asses kicked. OF Jhostynxon Garcia is good for 39 points. IF Esmerlyn Valdez brings another 32. Jacob Gonzalez brings the double-hammer of a pair of Z's on his way to a murderous 42 points. Spencer Horwitz is not to be left behind with another 33. By that math, the Mets (a puny 11 points from Luis Torrens — hah!) are doomed.
  4. Since Ewing is still 21 and Payton appeared in only a handful of games before 27, that would be terrific, as he is way ahead on the development ramp. But I don't see that parallel.
  5. LET'S MIC GARY! LET ME GRADUATE! LET'S MEET GAYS!
  6. Carmen Mlodzinski = 36 Scrabble points. Xzavion Curry = 36 Scrabble points. I'm calling this game a tossup.
  7. Bob Dernier? Dan Gladden? Steve Finley? Or do you have different comps? It takes some real faith in The Mets/David Stearns/Andy Green to believe in AJ — I won't lie. I hated the exfoliation of the system that they did at the trade deadline last season, dumping all this talent for relievers who would let them down, but it said something loudly about Ewing that, after Jett Williams came all the way back from his injury last season, they still moved him because they liked AJ better. And whatever I thought of that, AJ totally passed the guy. That was a kick in the head for me.
  8. You're thinking of Fleetwood Mac guitarist Stevie Buckingham, producer on the track, and his bandmate Lindsey Nicks singing backup (and also serving as inspiration for the track, I believe). The real trivia I want an answer to is who did the hair and costumes for that clip.
  9. Still, I'd hate to take that bullpen for granted, staying close until the late innings, only to have Lucius Weaver shut the door in my face.
  10. I'm keeping Ewing because Benge's necklace is garish and Ewing's better on-base and marginally better defense and baserunning skills kind of give him more of foundation to justify his continued presence during slumps. That's a conservative take, I know.
  11. Benny's daughter Ailani also plays professional softball, and plays a big role as she rocks the family's 5-0 digits in this vid.
  12. Hey, remember a week ago when Gary Cohen was banging on and hammering home how the Mets have been merely a meh team when Juan Soto was in the lineup, but some crazy disastrous shit like 7-50 when he wasn't? HOW DO YOU LIKE ME NOW, GARY?!
  13. They pulled it off while leaving Jefry Yan fully rested!! I'm going with Luis Torrens for PotG.
  14. It's a lot easier when you win one out of one.
  15. The Guards still have to get three more outs with that garbage.
  16. Luis Robert has three hits against MLB pitchers — the best class of pitching in the world. Throw an amateur duffer up against him and he goes down swinging on three pitches like shlub.
  17. Catching the Nats is the first order of business. Torrens wears his catching cheat-sheet arm band to the plate.
  18. Alvarez can hit with men on base! And if you tell me that Benge shouldn't have tried to score, Imma have words.
  19. I'm also an advocate for driving in three runs with one 0-2 swing.
  20. I'm a squeeze play advocate, but not with the infield in.
  21. New Mets bullpen killing it. I mean, so far, anyhow.
  22. Brooks was their longest serving pitcher, I guess, apart from the absent Tylor Megill.
