The Mets had a cascade of injuries to their hitters — particularly their outfielders — and were so desperate that they had James McCann at first and Tomas Nido at catcher in order to improve their offense, and they were batting those two guys third and fourth. His return probably represents the organization backfilling in anticipation of losing Ibáñez.
