1. The have a really massive Flo out there in the outfield promoting the company that has their division rival's stadium naming rights. I keep seeing that ad and thinking I've made a mistake and they're playing the Guardians and not the Twins. Also, Soto looks like he has joined the grounds crew.
2. His wheels buy the Mets a run. It is kind of amazing, however, what a high percentage of oven-mitt guys diving into second over-slide. A clever infielder might occasionally pass on trying to tag the runner before he gets to the base, and instead just let him slide in while diving in right behind him as he overslides.
3. Let‘s see Acoonie tear up some basepaths.
4. I don't know if that guy you are describing is Drew Butera, but either way Imma guess Drew Butera was a second-rounder.
5. The emergency replacement for Armando Benitez was Ty Walker.
6. Baty hit! Baty RBI! Let's hear it for whoever decided to put Costanza on the mound! And yeah, whoever decided to put Kramer and Newman on defense is cool too!
7. Think they can make a six-run lead hold up for one more inning?
8. Pitching through the seventh inning!
9. Look at the Mets' starter — pitching into the seventh inning! The A's should play this game under protest. I don't think that's legal!
10. Think they can make a two-run lead hold up for three more innings?
11. Taylor didn't slide there because his upper butt was still barking from that HbP.
12. Think they can make a one-run lead hold up for four more innings?
13. Matt Reynolds. (OE: Well, shit. I just sat there thinking Matt ... Matt ... Matt ... SOMETHING!)
14. I suspect José Siri might change things real soon, but the Mets have gone 14 games — almost a 10th of the schedule — without making any changes to the Opening Day 26-Man Roster. That is the way it should be, maybe, but it feels pretty rare. I went back and checked, and last season, the transacting started early, calling up Reed Garrett and IL-ing Tylor Megill after the first series. In 2023, they only made it to Day 2 before Justin Verlander had to be placed on the IL and Megill this time got the call. Among other things, putting Siri on the IL would give him a chance to get some swings in the minors, and if he doesn't go, Hayden Senger will have to when Francisco Álvarez is done with his IL assignment. No huge deal, but if the Mets First contest included the date of the first MLB transaction, we all probably would have lost.
15. Siri knocked out of the game just now after fouling a ball off of his lower leg.
16. Maybe fiber in your diet is an option.
17. A lot of discussion in the booth about him last night, about how he is working on a new, more disciplined approach, but an .050 batting average has a way of making you revert your old free-swinging ways. Whatever limits his old approach had, it got him to the big leagues and has kept him there so far. For what it's worth, his nine-pitch walk last night was sort of a stealth Turning Point of the Game. Mitch Spence was pretty spent after that, and the only out he would get was Alonso's sacrifice fly that Siri surprised Lawrence Butler on by flying home despite its relative shallowness.
18. Peterson is not getting 'em the second time through.
19. A great sinker to get Alonso, but this version of Pete who can't be tempted by the slider away is a revelation.
20. Tune in, turn on, drop out.
21. Fortunately, the Mets have only one after-midnighter of this road trip, and they locked it down last night. They return for a daytripper against the newly rebranded (or unbranded) A's. Lefty David Peterson takes the mound for the invaders. The TBA's have appeared to have settled on former Mets farmhand JT Ginn. The righthander went to the team formerly known as Oakland back in March of 2022 in the Chris Bassitt deal. Now, if a red-hot Pete Alonso can tee off on his former organization mate, the Mets hope to extract some more benefits from that trade. As you await the 4:05 start time, entertain your bad selves with this trailer for the upcoming Michael Cera/Michael Angarano/Kristen Stewart film Sacramento!
22. We needed every swing in Alonso's bat, but fortunately, he had them to offer. The New York Mets are historically unbeatable in Sacramento.
23. Diaz on the ropes at 1:24 AM.
