  1. well, then you've answered your own question. Don't be such a smart guy. If Wright and Davis returned tomorrow, would you try and steal some time for Murphy in left? I sure would.
  2. Yes, it can get worse for Lenny Dykstra.
  3. Vic Sage wrote: Turned a corner or merely hot? are you suggesting he's turned the corner and he's now a .500 hitter? No.

  5. Daniel Murphy through May 6: .244 / .311 / .402 // .714. Daneil Murphy through June 6: 309 / .366 / .433 // .799. Turned a corner or merely hot?
  6. I figure any team that has employed Rollie Fingers has to indulge any reliever who wants to break out the moustache wax.

  9. Don't trust Lowes, baby. You will know them from the trail of emotional wreckage. Derek Lowe: openly consorted with a married TV reporter, breaking up two homes --- at least. As for his DUI, I would have been dismissed from jury service after declaring "Just look at him!" Don't trust Derek Lowe. Chad Lowe: Broke the heart of a Met fan by wrecking their marriage with substance abuse. Don't trust Chad Lowe. Rob Lowe: Statuatory raped a girl on video tape during a political convention (but pulled out the Lowe familly's favorite "Famous, Rich, and White in Georgia" card). Cheated on Half Pint wtih Nastassja Kinski, driving her into the neurotic arms of John Cusack, which can't be healthy for anybody. Reconciled with her, only to ditch her for Princess Stephanie. Reconciled again, pledged to marry her, only to ditch her one last time when he found out she was pregnant. The only folks who hire her now are folks at Lifetime. Don't trust Rob Lowe. Nick Lowe: I've always suspected that he stole Carlene Carter from Dave Edmunds, wrecking Rockpile. I can't prove it. So maybe you can trust Nick Lowe, but be careful. Lowe's: They screw employees by paying "variable rate overtime." I wouldn't trust them either. Put down the People magazine and back slowly away from the keyboard. I'm feverish and disoriented and maybe shouldn't be posting, but I decided to go with it and see what happened. I don't need no People, however, to know what's gone down with Half Pint.

  11. Brilliant, all-star material.
  12. Oh, s'it, LWFS has another assgnment right on top of versificating Cubs KTE. DOES HE HAVE IT IN HIM?
  13. Makes me want to give Fred Wilpon a hug.
  14. I'm kind of surprised to see him in the Sally League. A guy --- especially one with a college pedigree --- knocks down buildings in Brooklyn, I expect him to open in St. Lucie the next year. Savannah seems like a lateral move.

They're more or less grabbing at straws trying to establish a culture. is it true that there is nothing in the Nats stadium to indicate an Expos past? They finally relented and put all retired Expos numbers on display last year .......next to the Senators numbers and numbers commemorating certain Homestead Grays players. The tenuous connection with DC baseball of the latter supports the view the organization is clueless about its priorities. That's what I was referring to. They're not retired, but they are displayed. They honored him by displaying an ugly-assed Nats' jersey? Ugh. No wonder I forgot.
  16. I'd hesitate to say nothing. I seem to remember Tim Raines being acknowledged somewhere. But it would be cool as top-shelf Quebec sorbet to have Raines, Rusty Staub, Andre Dawson, and Gary Carter show up for Expos Heritage Night and get their numbers re-retired.

  18. Good thinking. Not sure what they have planned, but hopefully this sparks their commitment to make it special and sparks his teammates' commitment to make it back. They can introduce him last this time.
  19. Maybe it'll not only be a weak dribbler, but it'll come in a game where he makes three errors, including the game-ender, gets in a fight with A-Rod in the dugout, whines to the umps, gets picked off after the lone single, gets caught by the mic foulmouthing a fan, and does all sorts of profoundly uncaptainly things.
  20. I think the only appropiate way would be a playable fly to the opposite field warning track that a 10-year-old reaches out for over the glove of the waiting rightfielder and grabs.
  21. Less than a score from hit 3000, so brace yourself for an orgy of Jetermania.
  22. SI: During your playing days you dated Janet Leigh and Elizabeth Taylor (below). Today we'd call you "a player." Did they have a name for athletes who dated movie stars back in your day? Kiner: No, they didn't [laughs]. At that time few players got a shot at dating the movie people. One of the reasons I was able to was that Bing Crosby was one of the owners of the Pirates. But I met Janet Leigh at Forbes Field when she was working on Angels in the Outfield. She was standing at the batting cage, and I got to know her by talking to her. So that was all on my own. And he was a smooth operator.

At the risk of being insensiitve, Carter might not mind such a scenario. An historical marker, a valedictory appearance, a chance to say goodbye. He wouldn't count it as surrender, either. Micheal Landon was on Johnny Carson as his scenario was looking bleaker. He laughed and joked and frankly looked like a million bucks. He took the time to plug his new show and told CBS that they're gonna be sorry if he beats the cancer, because the show's gonna be a hit and he's gonna squeezed them for every penny. He was gone like a week later. I guess my point is that you can say goodbye while maintainig that it's not necessarily goodbye.
  24. Tom Skerritt was a Met?
  25. Murph definitely exhibited the arm for third base last night, and it's a shame his managers haven't given him more of an opportunity to spell Wright over there on occasion. His overaggression on the basepaths, that's a different story.
