  1. I don't know. We usually get shit from fans because the Met bench is full of MLB retreads. This year, there's more room for young comers to come. Few Jay Bells and Frank Catalanottos in the way. Yeah, that means fewer potential comebackers like Marlon Andersons or Fernando Tatis or Desi Relaford. Still and all, I like the gamble of taking a good look at Rick Ankiel, Jr. in Loewen. Cheaper, younger, not as entitled, easier to get out of the way if a Newey or a Dekker comes fast, and --- if you trust your staff --- just as likely to succeed. Longer-term payoff if he does, too.
  2. I think Pierre looks to get a lot of time in left for Philly with Mayberry at first. Good.
  3. That's it. Five-hit shutout. Helps to see Parnell and Rauch perform a little, even against the second stringers. Few good appearances by the Mets' main bullpenners this spring.
  4. And Duda Dubbles! Love this offense if it stays relatively healthy.
  5. Didn't see it. Getting a lousy feed as usual. Two out walk to Bay. Stolen base. Ike plates him with a single. Two-zip.
  6. Backhanded by Tejada and he gets out of it. Four batters to get an out. Woo-hoo!
  7. Infield hit for DeRosa. Ramos up. 'Sloaded.
  8. Big moment for Francis Francis here. First and second, two outs, and DeRosa at the plate.
  9. Exchange from March 5. Howard Megdal ? @howardmegdal March just got MUCH tougher for Fred Wilpon and company. Edward Hoyt ? @EdgyDC @howardmegdal I don't think anybody thought the 'Pons would walk off scott free. I think the judge gave both sides motivation to settle. Howard Megdal ? @howardmegdal @EdgyDC Nope. Neither side has the slightest motivation/ability to settle. Wilpons lack the cash, Picard needs this precedent wiped away.
  10. Did you forget how much you liked seeing Duda slam a ball over the fence against a super pitcher? Another DP next inning too. Psyche.
  11. Two names of minority investors leaked. One is Bob Pittman, Clear Channel CEO (which merely implies that he's a tool). Pittman is the former CEO of MTV Networks and was COO of America Online Inc., which doesn't exactly dispel my tool suspicions. His specialty is "boosting brands." Maybe that can help the Mets. My specialty is boosting Volkswagons. The other guy is Kenneth Lerer, Wilpon buddy and chairman and co-founder of The Huffington Post, which --- how do I put it? --- doesn't really absolve him of toolsomeness with me. General Partner of Lerer Media Ventures, an angel fund in New York City, Vice-Chairman of Betaworks and Chairman of BuzzFeed. He is a past Executive Vice President of AOL Time Warner and was a founding partner of New York based corporate communications firm Robinson, Lerer, and Montgomery. Common thread is AOL and media in general. Mets look like they got more Democrat-aligned, as well.
  12. Visiting the Mets' clubhouse:
  13. That first number looks like an "8" and I'm thinking that other guy isn't a Met per se, but a bullpen catcher or a batboy. Looks like a catcher's mitt, too.
  14. Tejada back in the lineup tonight. All A-listers except for Turner subbing in for Wright. Strasbburg on the hill for Washington. Torres, cfMurphy, 2bBay, lfDavis, 1bDuda, rfTurner, 3bThole, cTejada, ssGee, spLombardozzi, 3bDesmond, ssEspinosa, 2bDeRosa, 1bRamos, cAnkiel, cfCarroll, lfBernadina, rfStrasburg, sp
  15. Ray Knight, former boxer himself, smart enough to stay behind Tyson.
  16. DocTee wrote: If only this season was going to be more like the 1969 vintage, rather than the 1962 vintage... I'll wager that the 2012 Mets win total is closer to that of 1969 than 1962. Maybe not WS champs, but surely not 120 game losers. Take the bet! Take the bet!
  17. I think you understand me perfectly well. Enough goofiness.
  18. He's gonna marry a chick named Cat.
  19. Root for Bay and I'm rooting for homeruns and stolen bases, doubles to the power alley and great jolly catches at the fence. If I want somebody else there, I'll root for him directly, not for Bay's demise but for the ascendancy of another. But 40 homers from Bay or 40 from Cesar Puello will thrill me either way.
  20. I'm 112% sure that LaRussa manages the game, and McCarver spends the pregame weeping with admiration for his fellow Cardinal legend, and by the end, he'll have you wanting to kick open the doors to Cooperstown, to forsake any artificial waiting period and to install a new plaque on the wall before the sun rises on the next day. Oh, and Jeter.
  21. Has Adrian Rosario, the PTBNL who wasn't Danny Herrera in the Francisco Rodriguez trade, appeared on any prospect lists?
  22. I'm not going to get too vest-conscious at this point. Certainly no fun rooting for a guy to stay off the field. They dodged the Rodriguez option and it wasn't worth the drama around it.
  23. There's two fences arguments. The first was the notion that the ballpark is holding in his best efforts. The second was that the ballpark dimensions so threatened to hold in his best efforts that he changed his mental and physical approach from what was working for him and never found another. I know I don't believe in the first. The second is annoying, but is harder to dismiss, as a few players seemed to give voice to it after the team announced they were bringing the walls. in. .271-22-88.
  24. Ozzie Smith on his best day was not going to snag that.
