  1. Did we never do an 2012 thread? Anyhow, Chris and Liz Young (left, doncha know) are proud parents a third time over with young Grant Christopher Young. Shares his name with the drummer from Soul Asylum.
  2. Dickey jumps from 13th to eighth in the league in ERA. And despite my incomprehensible screams about the manager's hook, he leads the NL in innings pitched. Also totally undercutting my position (at least, it would if my position was built primarily in criticism of Terry Collins), Johan Santana leads the NL in both complete games and shutouts, with two of each.
  3. Could you imagine how fucking thrilled we'd be with this season without the washout in Atlanta?
  4. Yeah, I have no problem with it. I'm certainly not going to buy it (I've got my New York Times), but I have no problem with it.
  5. Jason Bay said he believes the intense nausea was adverse reaction to antibiotic for sinus infection.
  6. Um, we once again rule.
  7. I LUB to see that. Nieuwhiffhuis gives me a lot to love, but he's on a pace to set a nieu Mets strikeout record.
  8. And we just walked him to bring the tying run to the plate.
  9. All hopes rest on Duda. Don't tell him that, but it's true.
  10. The Nats think so too, and are reacting as only boys will.
  11. Don't worry, we have Ike Davis coming up and he's a walking machine. He's a damn walking fool.
  12. Adam Rubin wrote: Jason Bay legitimately sick. Coughing when arrived at clubhouse. And, not to be too graphic, but heard there's some vomiting involved. If it wasn't for Rubin's self-censoring concerns about your pathetically delicate sensibilities, we'd have gotten a prize-winning description of the texture and content of all the Baybarf. Adam was ready to go there.
  13. Part of me was hoping for Valdy. Sacking up and redeeming yourself is one of the coolest things to see on a baseball field. Winning is good too, though. We'll leave the sacking up to Q-Tip.
  14. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Three straight days of futile rallies and tack-on runs left in the Waiting Room? Of embarrassing errors and double plays unturned turning minor threats major? Of opposition bats spitting out clutch hits like a two-out Repeater? Screw all that. Let's take these fugazi-first-placers out-- it's Dickey Day. Oh, I get it.
  15. Wow. A no-hitter doesn't get you very far in Dickeyville.
  16. Steve Lombardozzi Jr. has terrible taste in walkup music. Bryce Harper is really good. Went one for five but hit everything hard. The Nats hit into a lot of hard outs. Q looked really solid in the field, but I'm not sure if that was an illusion based on how shaky everybody else has been looking. I was hoping to see Bay. What the Hell is wrong with me? If there is such a thing as a reprieve for a day based on the previous day's performance, perhaps Davis played well enough to earn one. But that's a questionable proposition. Would've preferred to see Beato instead of Boidak. If the stadium gun means anything, I was really surprised to see Batista consistently hitting 93-94 on it. Maybe Hef is just one of those bad-beginning guys. I dunno. With that first inning and our defense, we really looked sunk, and I was mildly impressed to be in it at all at the end. I guess that's part of what Terry may be credited with (falsely or not) --- after losing Reyes, we see three middle infielders land on the DL, and they stay with it. Like Murphy trying to recover on a muffed grounder, this team stays with it. Whoever said Terry uses the shift more than most was right. Didn't help much tonight, though. Embarrassing Met Fan, Type #33: Abusive and profane fight-picking crank wearing a Gary Carter jersey, or the jersey of any decent and composed gentlemen. Go with Dykstra or Backman or somebody.
  17. We're going in circles. He was an insurance policy. The Mets have hundreds of players in their system. Most of them won't play for them. That doesn't indicate a lack of a plan.
  18. (1) He's not being expended, he's being exposed. (2) He's being exposed because they need somebody else. (3) What he was then and and what he is now, as far as market value, isn't the same. (4) What he was exposed to then and and what he's being exposed to now, isn't the same, as far as risk.
  19. Silliness. People get DFA'd all the time. (Maybe Martinez does next.) Buying an insurance policy wasn't foolish because your house didn't burn down.
  20. Martinez was always the better whatever. Their opinion was that Satin had more value to them going forward. I disagreed. You apparently did too. But until Martinez starts putting points on the scoreboard at the big league level, it's still an open question.
  21. Yeah, maybe, but the defense is wrong. The buttery topping of an added benefit is that defenses grow more honest.
  22. How does the pink backpack thing work? Does Elvin carry it now or does it fall back on Beato?
