Cooby whiffs. Let's get out of this

Oh, yeah, definitely the guy who had to earn the breaks that the good-face guys were given outright. Zimmerman's like that.

R.A. Dickey was "garbage in" by the same standards, so I definitely disagree with that.

Good point. He's batting 1.000 on the untucked pocket, it seems.

Met number 935, already having logged a scoreless inning and a two-out double: Matt Harvey!

I heard Garrison Keilor's voice while reading that.

His starts were full of lousy beginnings and sometimes incredible recoveries. His relief appearances, well, you don't get time for recoveries in those. You come out strong or don't last long. For a guy who still had 95-96-MPH heat, good movement, and more or less good conditioning in his forties, it's kinda strange he hasn't had a better career in general, but maybe his inability to figure things out until he made a few mistakes was a career-long trait. Maybe he didn't prepare well. Dunno.

It's just a thought. As I tried to suggest, there may have been a previous rightsholder who never produced anything. Or the Point Blank producers retained rights to the characters' names even if they didn't use them. You're the entertainment lawyer. Get to the bottom of it.

I wonder why? I imagine that what usually happens is that the Hollywood guy who buys the first book in a serial (chronologically first, or first to be purchased) owns the screen rights to the characters, whether or not he purchases the subsequent books, or even necessarily produces that book at all, as long as the rights are retained. So people who purchase subsequent stories don't get the names along with them. This happened with Roddy Doyle's Barrytown Trilogy. Three books about the same family ended up getting adapted into three semi-related films about different but similar families with different names, but the same actor playing the same father in a slightly different house in the same neighborhood. The original studio wouldn't give up the rights to the names because they had a vague notion of doing their own non-Doyle-related sequel to The Commitments in which the band reunites to tour America.

I'd get on a plane to anywhere if I was playing like that. Allows you to trick your mind into believing you're leaving your shit behind you. To the extent that the issue is confidence, that can work. To the extent that issue is talent, well, your shit is right beside you.

Supposedly turned down Luke Gregerson for Daniel Murphy. One can imagine the temptation to over-pay for relief right now, but I'm glad they realize their offense is also critically pinched.

Maybe Jetes could talk to him about that gut.

That don't work.

I actually was thinking a few days ago that this would be a good move, then I checked and saw he hadn't been hitting. I still like it on principle. Still missing Rottino --- or at least missing having a Rottinian element. I hadn't realized Nickeas still had options --- thought he had first appeared in 2009. Makes me think they should have more seriously tried alternatives earlier in the season. Yeah, but he's untouched as a relief pitcher.

Cal Ripken's mother, kidnapped this morning and released unharmed. Motive unknown. Aberdeen: hardscrabble and relatively humorless place. You don't mess with the Ripkens --- you don't even joke about it. it's all the place has going.

I'm interested as to whether he flings his dung. Keep it coming Burkhardt.

Well, we committed 24 errors. Their pitcher threw a no-hitter. But there is some good news. Two of our runners almost managed to get to first base... and we did hit 17 foul balls.

There's no pressure. Harvey isn't here to be a savior. He's just one man. I just wanted to be the guy to start this thread because it'll one day be a museum piece. Wade Milley starts for the Diamondbacks (who should be the ones going to the American League).
