  1. Ha! Real word after all. I'm going to submit a paper on this vote to Psychogeography Today.
  2. Phil Niekro --- never won a Cy Young Award. Probably shoulda won at aleast one, but didn't. Joe Niekro --- never won a Cy Young. That emory board scandal was a joke, too. Wilbur Wood --- never won a Cy Young. Threw an amazing 736 innings over two years, but came up short. Hoyt Wilhelm --- never won a Cy Young. Never even received a taste of support for the Cy Young. Tim Wakefield --- has won as many Cy Young Awards as Braden Looper. That would be none. None Cy Young Awards. Dickey has done more than win. He's broken the glass ceiling. He's a Cyoneer.
  3. In-tryst-ting: Everybody there except Saunders has a horse in the race, psychogeogrphaically. I'd imagine they'd all deny it, and anyhow, I just made up the word "psychogeogrphaically," but there it is.
  4. I have no problem with that. I don't agree that a reliever shouldn't get considered unless no starter steps forward. It's a steeper hill to climb for relievers, but sometimes they climb it.
  5. And Bono should wear this on his sleeve:
  6. Kershaw likely never got considered by those two because his relatively low win total kep' him off the shortlist. Progress, I think. Got to imagine that 25 years ago, he doesn't make the top five.
  7. Guys who should be correct answers to this but somehow aren't: Braden Looper, Mike Stanton, Manny Aybar.
  8. This new blue alternate look was supposed to be launched last year, but they didn't get the paperwork filed in time or something, so they previewed the Spanish version instead.
  9. I didn't say anyone treats me like a leper, I said it seems like that, to me, based on the attitude of many. Not specifically here or there, just in general around baseball. It's just... I can't... I'm trying so hard... Let's just get lost, man.
  10. Agreed with Monk.
  11. Ceetar wrote: I'm not quoting you. these are general feels about the world of baseball, it has nothing to do with you. When you say it in response to my alternative preference, more than once, and then making up some quote, you're putting it on me. Nobody treats you like a leper.
  12. Heath Bell, someday soon.
  13. Ceetar wrote: I don't know why you read derision into practically everything I write. I don't. Ceetar wrote: Especially regarding this when it's often made to seem that I'm a leper or something for daring to like something that's not the way it's always been done. That's nonsense. Ceetar wrote: I don't like the haughty stance in baseball that anything new is wrong, whether it's different uniforms, more than 2 uniforms, the Wild Card or three divisions. If there's any derision it's to the concept that baseball can't do things different (or that the Mets shouldn't) because "That's not how we do things in baseball" I don't know who you're quoting. It's not me, I'm certain.

I've got to think that the greater R.A. Dickey story and his media savvyness/friendliness helped him. It's writers, after all, voting on it. Kind of expected a stray fourth or fifth place vote to go to Strasburg.
  15. because I don't think there's any need to adhere to 100 year old tradition in what the team wears. I got that. What's with the circle jerk?
  16. Armando Benitez threw a few games with Toronto on the butt end of his career.
  17. Yeah, and I asked why. What the hell?
  18. R.A., you disappoint me. The love we shared... The passion in the battle... The table we made for the mayor...
  19. The exact content of your previous post says they are preferable. All caps and with exclamations also.
  20. That's kind of cheaply derisive. Why are the traditions of 30 and 40 years ago preferable?
  21. I know it ain't black, but I look at these and I just see the team's signature look degrading again. Solid color tops just say beer league softball to me.
  22. Nobody yet, huh?
  23. You read it here first (sort of). Now read the book --- or part one of the book. Go G-FaFiF. Soft launch, my left eye.
  24. Torii Hunter becomes Torii Tiger-Hunter.
