  1. That 1-800-Flowers guy? He, too, is lookin' crookit. Can a federal indictment of Bill Maher be far away?
  2. Young and socially awkward novelist develops writer's block after his wildly successful debut. When he dreams about a lovely and interestingly weird china doll of a girl, he wakes up inspired and begins furiously writing about her. In the least-shocking Pygmalionian twist, she comes to life. Some guy stars, who you may recognize from that other film. Whatshername plays the girl. Two other folks direct.
  3. Is he bordering on Trout? That's the question, I think.
  4. Deacon White looks like a guy who made a killing in dry goods.
  5. Got Zack Wheeler for 60 potential games (44 in actuality) of Carlos Beltran. Sandy set his own bar high.
  6. Wowzers, Edgardo. Has anybody this side of Rickey fought retirement so tenaciously?
  7. Jobs been opening up while I've been offline. Some closing up. Good news if your name is "Zack." Bad news if your name is "Zach." If you celebrated the non-tendering of Andres Torres, please note: this team is seriously wanting for outfielders. No real clue what's being planned, but three big shlots remain on the 40. 8. Yeah, that was me with Pete Smith.
  9. I'm still glad Pete Smith didn't cost us any more than Dave Gallagher.
  10. How much did a day in the Yankee PR department go for?
  11. Um...
  12. What the Braves didn't do today: sign David Wright.
  13. New York tabloids --- particularly the News --- have a professional interest in keeping his halo shiny., What makes it great for him is just about that time in his career when "Derek is our savior" was becoming an old story, and they might have thrown him overboard during the absence of post-2000 championships, along came A-Rod, to play out as bad boy to Derek's good boy, like Anglina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston. Us Magazine got seven years or more of sales out of that story, and the NY tabloids get similar legs out of the Derek and Alex opera.
  14. Well, my subtler point is that hopefully this hasn't held put too many other operations. What's Paddy Power's line on whether Dickey gets extended?
  15. Great stuff. Sounds like a great night.
  16. Whipped us up a sweet side of Bixler while the main dish was in the oven, too.
  17. I have to say, Derek would have a hard time taking a less flattering photo. I mean, I can do it, because I'm routinely a disaster on camera.
  18. Sure, but many of the other circumstances were different, including the signals from the parties.
  19. I'm more moved by the slender forearm.
  20. HEY! There's TWO photos.
  21. If you're not already working on a script to the hi-LAR-rious blockbuster comedy Murphy's Wedding, I sure am. >>>> "Hey, Daniel, guess what I got you for your wedding --- ME!" >>>> "Fuck you, David." >>>> "You got eight years to that buddy. Why don't you take care of the missus first." >>>> "Will somebody call this asshole a cab. I can't believe everybody likes you." >>>> "ROCK 'N' ROLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!" __________________________________ I agree that this was always gonna happenl, which is why the haters are setting it up that the Mets are assholes anyway.
  22. And he has one of the lower career lowlights. [youtube:2rm3dnwe]_HtNCqw5GtY[/youtube:2rm3dnwe]
  23. Really good shoring up move for Washington. And it may give them the option of trading any of three or four guys to shore up somewhere else. Span, it turns out, was accidentally born on DC. Regarding his defensive prowess, it seems like the Twins have had a plus guy in center forever, with Pucket, Hunter, Gomez, and Span. I'm sure there were a couple of impostors in there I'm blissfully unaware of but Twins fans will never forget.. I can't really speak to whether the Becker interregnum was successful. I hope they have another ballhawk lined up to take over.
  24. Lofton had a great first half of his career. He's got the same dimmed bulb effect that Raines and Griffey had --- our last eight years or so of memories were of a guy that was utterly human. Got to count post-season numbers into there somehow, though, right?
  25. Yes, I'm imagining an alternative scenario, where Curt Schilling's post-season record becomes adhered to Steve Trachsel's pedestrian regular season record. I'd vote for that guy.
