  1. You sure? It was your turn and all.
  2. That of course, is irrelevant to this conversation. No, it is not. We're arguing about rights, are we not? Once you go down that path, you are led toward the inescapable conclusion that trying to continually unscramble the eggs for the sake of a manufactured fairness is impossible because the whole enterprise is built to be unfair.
  3. Matt Harvey, trying to do the non-douchey thing with Jay Horwitz and Jeff Wilpon.
  4. I'd argue, moreover that the draft is immoral, illegal, anti-competitive, and hurts the sport. And once you start making dubious rules of who has the exclusive "right" to an unwitting amateur's services, you will never stop twisting those rules into pretzels.
  5. Johnson always seemed perfectly capable defensively to me, for a firstbaseman, until the injuries unmade him.
  6. Yeah, he's got some answering to do. Another one of those awkward spring training press conferences with the seats full of Yankees and Jeter being all high and mighty. That might be nice.
  7. It seems to me that, in the spirit of the thing, If the team with the 10th worst record in 2012 (the Mets) doesn't get their pick protected because Pittsburgh bumped them to the 11th pick based on not signing their top pick from 2011, the team with the 11th best pick (checking: it was Oakland) from 2011 should have had their pick protected, because theirs was, in practice, the 10th pick, Pittsburgh's pick being essentially nullified. But, of course, that pick could not be protected because there was no way of knowing at the time of the draft that Pittsburgh would fail to sign their man. Am I overthinking this? Yes, I am. And it hurts. Too much is made of Scott Boras. He's just a man.
  8. Now, as baseball teams head to spring training under a tougher new policy, the Biogenesis records affirm that the war on doping has been as futile as the War on Drugs. I'm not sure I believe that.
  9. One of the mystery men in the mysteriously named Hall of Honor/Ring of Honor/Wall of Fame that honors DC-related sports achievement and is simultaneously displayed at RFK Stadium and Nationals Park.
  10. A blip on the radar notes that the Mets have signed "Dario Alvarez." With no accompanying press release or reports, little is known about Dario, or where they found him. That link above has him spending three summers in the DSL with the Phillies, improving each year, and then disappearing after 2009. He now comes back to the Mets as a 24-year-old wanderer. Where to from there? Mexico? Japan? Korea? China? Back in the DR working for a living? If you don't know your past, you don't know your future. Find out where Dario has been!
  11. Cedeo to the Cards is confirmed stateside.
  12. Maybe a Douchecalade. Running around Florida, taking pictures of and writing about ballplayers' rides would make a good article/series.
  13. Nothing is universally lauded. The only statement above implying unanimity of opinion among Met fans was Lefty Specialist wrote: At the end of his tenure in 2002, Met fans couldn't wait to be rid of him. I disagree. Folks have said that's untrue, but nobody's suggesting the opposite was untrue. Most of 2001 was marred by a tiresome online fan mutiny.
  14. Bourn, of course, loses in a ruling against the Mets. Not that anybody deciding is necessarily going to consider his concerns.
  15. You agree on what it would take to get him?
  16. How'sabout Nolan Riemold? Hits when he's healthy, but knocked out last year by a herniated disc. The Orioles re-upped him for a $1 million dollar-one year contract, but they've sort of moved on during their run last year and have a crowded outfield in place. Could probably be had for a second tier prospect. Ahmed Rosario? Gabriel Ynoa? Cory Vaughn? Juan Lagares? Maybe it'd take two, but still. I feel a fraternity with our orange brethren, and Oriole players have always made a grain of sense to me in Mets uniforms and vice versa.
  17. Gavin Cecchini is dating your daughter.
  18. Reconciliation is almost always an impressive achievement. The 'Pons have had a handful of opportunities to re-engage with him, and I'm glad if they found one where the time was ripe, and the position appropriate. But speaking of engagement, I hope the position would be big enough to keep Valentine engaged. He has a few other interests, and disengagement was certainly one of the criticisms that dogged him in Boston, fairly or no.
  19. I'lll come out and say that, if there has ever been a consensus among Mets fans any time in the internet era, it certainly wasn't that they were united in their haste to get rid of Valentine.

On the other hand, he posts more when he's sick, so... .
  21. Any word on whether he's going to shed 25 so Pedro can wear it?
  22. Maybe not, but with Jason Pridie and Andres Torres, we've has some beautiful beards in center. And Keith continues to bring it in the booth. Well, up until the end of last season, anyhow.
  23. I think he was caught out pretty badly with his reasoning for keeping Piazza out of the HOF, his numbers just didn't add up did they? On the other hand, somebody had the light on for Kenny Lofton. He tried to sort it out with numbers and reason, and came up with a dispassionate answer. I disagree with his ballot, but I bet if everybody took such an approach, we'd be a lot happier with the overall results.
