  1. Which Met had the most hits in the eighties? Mookie.
  2. Most hits against the Mets during the 1980s. Sandberg, sez I.
  3. Gary's blowing his ball-strike calls.
  4. When the outcome of the game doesn't provide much drama, the auto dealer of the night provides some. We get our more Cowgill, however.
  5. Frayed Knot wrote: Journey > Foreigner In the same way that taking a hammer to your foot is better than taking one to your hands. Haters gotta hate. There isn't really a currently active version of the Rollers. But Les McKoewn is fronting something he calls Les McKoewn's Bay City Rollers (which, on the other hand, probably is no less authentic than Mick Jones' current incarnation of Foreigner). Dates in June Sat Jun 15 Town Hall Glaisnock Street Cumnock, Cumnock, Scotland Sun Jun 23 Whitehaven Festival, UK No stateside gigs listed for 2013, I'm sorry to say. I'll keep you up to date, though.
  6. Ronnie's colorblind. I had no idea.
  7. Cubs last won the World Series in 1908, the year "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" was released. Mets last won the World Series in 1986, the year after Centerfield" was released.
  8. Infielder Josh Rodriguez has hit safely in 23 consecutive games, the longest hitting streak in the Eastern League since 2005.
  9. Quick, which Foreigner tracks do each of these rockers get for walkup music? 10. Wondering where Loverboy has been playing this month? 5/31/2013 Windsor, ON Beaverfest 6/08/2013 Syracuse, NY Taste of Syracuse 6/15/2013 Laughlin, NV AVI Resort and Casino 6/22/2013 Petaluma, CA Sonoma-Marin Fair 6/23/2013 Pleasonton, CA Alameda County Fair 6/28/2013 Omaha, NE Memorial Park 6/29/2013 Las Vegas, NV Cannery Casino May 31st isn't technically this month, but I couldn't resist Beaverfest and neither could you.
  11. Journey > Foreigner Loverboy, probably not > Foreigner
  12. Yeah, but the article and the comment by "die hard Mets fan Matt Kaufman" offers less insight than a cab driver. Yes, fans prefer good teams. Yes, good teams draw more. No, the economy isn't primarily what's keeping people away from Citi Field. Hey Mets, be better.
  13. Out in the street it's 6 a.m. Another sleepless night Three cups of coffee, but I can't clear my head From what went down last night No we won't have our own little ways But somehow we keep it together You hear me talk, you don't hear what I say I guess it don't even matter
  14. Mariners sign Henry Blanco, DFA Kelly Shoppach. Mets in, Mets out.
  15. If photos of Bailey Quarters won't bring Iubitul back, nothing will.
  16. And only three guys who aren't Mets by birthright. Valdespin better start showing some appreciation.
  17. Try not to fall over in the seats (like some people), my friends. The current edition* of F'r'n'r gets the nightcap, and you don't want to miss that. The challenge for the Mets: to be the hardest-rocking act on the night. Valdespin, 2b Murphy, 1b Wright, 3b Duda, lf Byrd, rf Buck, c Quintanilla, ss Lagares, cf Marcum, sp *Note from the IMDB: Fully 19 different men have played for both Foreigner and the Mets. Had no idea.
  18. I dunno. Right from the top I learned something. Dinosaurs were mostly carnivores or herbivores. Huh.
  19. Rock solid in his final minor league start (hopefully ever): 5 2/3 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7 SO, 1 HR Unfortunately, in what hopefully won't foreshadow Metly things to come, that one homer in the sixth inning was enough to get him tagged with the loss, as the bullpen matched the offensive ineptitude down the stretch in route to an 11-0 loss to Tacoma.
  20. I'm afraid I've grown too afraid too quickly in succumbing to the belief that Jordany as an everyday player = losing as an everyday occurrence.
  21. Fman99 wrote: That's a big league mascot move, right there. Great story.
  22. Offense seems down. I wonder how hard it is for many teams to see their situation in context. How many of my guys are hopeless and how many aren't really doing that much worse relative to the leaguewide trends? I remember once reading an essay (probably by Bill James) taking Mickey Mantle to task for retiring after hitting .237 at the age of 36, not realizing that his full line of .237 / .385 / .398 // .782 was absolutely nothing to sneeze at in 1968. Lucas Duda may be our 36-year-old Mickey Mantle. He may be told he's the problem, and feel like the problem, but the real problem is surrounding him with Horace Clarkes and Tom Treshes in the lineup.
  23. I'm confident Brown can give the team anything they can hope to get from Byrd going forward. In fact, I'm ready to sack the Valdesac-at-second regime after two games, put Brown in left, Duda at first, and Murphy back at the keystone.
