  1. Brilliant. Walk for Byrd. Piteher change That's a lot of bullpenners to stagger through this seventh even if they don't score again. Bult let's have them score again.
  2. Well, at least the last one was a strike.
  3. Stutes walks Satin to load the bases. Still no outs and the tying run in the on-deck circle. I like that Stutes.
  4. Mets on board. No out. Tying run on double deck.
  5. This guy's got rosin all over his hat.
  6. Sorry to hear about Duda. Losing him could hurt the team. Who do we got at Vegas? Is this Davis guy any good?
  7. I wonder if working the phones for trading possibilities is part of Ricco's portfolio. The rest of the braintrust gives him parameters for possible deals, he spends three days making calls, brings them back the offers he's been able to hammer out, and they tell him he did it all wrong.
  8. The choice is certainly the player's, though teams may certinly push them one way or another. If a choice is to made, I think, the pitcher with a few years on his contract typically gravitates toward reparative surgery, while a pitcher at the end of his contract looks to strengthen himself and pitch through it.
  9. Working a two-out, bases loaded walk is in LJ's blood. Is it true Ron Guidry, Jr. was on the mound?
  10. Well, 1600 or 2000, part of my reasoning was that piling up hits can happen despite not being a particularly good hitter. But, yes, it is probably unfair to put Felix in there. More inexplicably, I left this guy out. [list:2drytb6s]37. Doug Flynn 500[/list:u:2drytb6s]
  11. This post is what a good day is made of. Great to see Kash Beauchamp make an appearance. Kash-Money-with-a-K was a big shot when I was growing up, and a rare number one overall pick (but in the old supplemental January draft, I think) who never drank from the golden cup of a major league water cooler.
  12. Dudes in the Top 50 Despite Actually Not Really Being Much With the Bat 7. Bud Harrelson 1029 11. Jerry Grote 994 16. Felix Millan 743 17. Rey Ordez 720 21. Wayne Garrett 667 31. Ken Boswell 528 48. Frank Taveras 389 49. Rafael Santana 376 I guess somebody can defend Boswell as a hitter, at least for his era, but still another argument could put Kranepool himself on this list.
  13. Muprhy is also pounding his way up the hit list. Hits, Top 50 All-Time Mets David Wright projected to end of season 1609.13 1. David Wright 1504 =#FF4000]David Wright at start of season 1426 2. 14. Bullpenning too. One thing about the Braves, with Uggla in the past and this year with 2-4 different guys, they'll keep running a dude out there who's hitting under .200. If they keep gamely working at it and hitting the occasional homer, they get to stick around and the team hopes the rest of the team can pick them up. They seem organizationally disposed to putting crisis in perspective.
  15. Or any stage. It seems like every team in the division is messing with each other. They're all in dire straights but maybe trying to let on like it's not so dire, because they're all in dire straights. I'm not sure that, if somebody offered me any team in the division, the Phils aren't at the bottom of my list. That's on paper. In reality, I don't touch the Nats.
  16. It's isn't until it is. It is until it isn't. Congratulations to Shaun Markup, though, huh? Calling up Burke instead of a starter may keep the Marcsist in the rotation. On the other hand the next best candidate to enter the rotation is Carlos Torres, and he's already on the team.
  17. Young's fourth inning diving catch might have saved two runs, but he seemed to have it lined up to make sure it stayed in front of him even if he didn't close his glove on the ball. http://wapc.mlb.com/play/?content_id=28205911 Good ballhawking.
  18. I'm guessing they hope he returns first game after the All-Star break --- that is, if he's not voted onto the team.
  19. I guess the only guys that could top that would be two-tenure guys like Mazzilli, Jorgensen, or McReynolds.
  20. Sure, that's definitely a higher-end defensive alignment, but I'm still behind Brown getting those first three at-bats. I'm curious to see if Terry finds any work for Young in the infield.
  21. I'm glad we have Young. But like most guys in this offense, I want him to earn every plate appearance. And he hasn't. AB has at least earned some starts against lefties, and if that means Murphy or Quinto or Lagares or somebody uncertified bats leadoff, I can deal. Brownie, you're doing a great job
  22. Sources say Niese is hitting the DL and Burke is coming back. That they called up a reliever and not a starter and a reliever suggests that Marcum gets a stay of execution, but I say that Carlos Torres is looking like a real option for the fifth starter.
  23. I think it's a minor scandal that Young started over Brown against the lefty, and I'm trusting that it won't happen again.
  24. Oh, and first series win in... ever, I think.
