  1. It's hard to look at the way media is going and imagine that Batman won't continue to get new go-arounds. I was reading in the Atlantic about ESPN's media supremacy (worth more perhaps than all of Disney's other holding's put together) and it's clear that media has never been so star driven. Five properties are all any outlet needs. People only needs five clebrities continually rotating on the cover ad nauseum, music only needs five singers, and sports only needs five evergreen storylines (even if one of them, like Tebow, is 100% manufactured). People tune in to hate on Tiger and Tebow just as much as they tune in to root for him, and if Affleck fails, there'll be plenty of money to be made from people hating on him. Batman and the Avengers are like 50% of the film industry right now.
  2. 1985 was, by any measure, marvelous. They won 98 smashing games which is probably enough to get you a division more than half the time, and if not for one of any number of simplish breaks --- Strawberry's thumb, Sisk's bone chips, Davy Johnson vetoing Frank Cashen's deal to bring Seaver back, Chapman slumping so precipitously from the previous season it was almost comic, incredibly boneheaded plays from Larry Bowa who you thought you could at least count on to keep his head in the game --- would have gone over the top. You have a chance for a 1985, you don't ask to be dealt out. You take it and hope that you can be smart enough to stay one step ahead of that one break. It was just a great summer of baseball wire to wire and if you wanted to give me those same cards to play with, I'd sign up every time.

  5. Yeah, the Stones thing is batmagadan's gig, but I hope he doesn't mind me butting in for a cameo. Other possible titles for this thread were "Out of Time" and "Please Go Home." Outlets are reporting that the Mets have multiple deals on the table. Ruby Tuesday has a source, but sources don't have to even be whispers from the fringes of the braintrust, as the team has at least five guys on waivers, and Recker, den Dekker, and Carson all shadowing the big club ready to step into action should somebody suddenly, shall we say, have an accident. Source: Mets shop trade of several Updated: August 27, 2013, 8:24 AM ET By Adam Rubin | ESPNNewYork.com NEW YORK -- A day after losing right-hander Matt Harvey to a torn ulnar collateral ligament, the New York Mets are poised to be active on the trade front, a source told ESPNNewYork.com. At least five Mets players are going through the waiver process, and there is a high degree of probability the Mets make at least one trade in the next 24 or 48 hours, the source said. The Mets have moved catcher Anthony Recker, outfielder Matt den Dekker and left-hander Robert Carson from Triple-A Las Vegas to New York to have players available should a trade or trades be consummated. Among the candidates to be traded are catcher John Buck, outfielder Marlon Byrd and left-handed reliever Pedro Feliciano. A source with knowledge of the Mets' plans added that major league players under the organization's control beyond this season also are being discussed in trades. The Mets decided to retain Byrd at the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, citing a lack of attractive offers as well as a desire to finish the season strongly. Byrd now is hitting .285 with a career-high 21 homers and 71 RBIs. Only $130,000 remains owed on his salary this season. The Mets also passed on trading Buck at the non-waiver deadline, but the circumstances have changed. Rookie catcher Travis d'Arnaud now is receiving the bulk of the playing time, having recovered from a fractured first metatarsal in his left foot. D'Arnaud made his major league debut Aug. 17. Feliciano, who missed the 2011 and 2012 seasons with shoulder woes, returned to the majors Aug. 2. Don't trade Pedro. He needs you and you need him, somehow.
  6. Well, the harm is that there may be smarter options available for the money.

  8. Where's Robby Cancel when you need him?
  9. Runners in motion now.
  10. Sending Duda up against the lefty over Buck and Young.

  12. d'Arnaud gets the average up to .143.
  13. Big caught stealing by d'Arnaud. By the way, is that the first lower-case letter you've ever seen on the back of a Met uniform? Seem's like they'd be more likely to use a small cap. Mets out of the crisis. Let's get some runs.
  14. Keith saying that John McNamara told him certain things about the 1986 series that he can't reveal, about certain players. Clemens, Clemens, Clemens. Let me guess. Clemens.
  15. Down 2-1 suddenly feeling like 7-1 as Josh Satin grounds out on the first pitch to start the seventh.
  16. Dating supermodels, posing in the buff for a magazine spread, tearing your UCL. Should anybody be surprised that one should follow the others sure as fall follows spring and summer? It's such an obvious downfall that I'd expect it from Cole Hamels. (Still processing.)
  17. Is Charlie Brown available for opening day?
  18. Let's focus on the positive. ... Let me know if you find anything.

Yeah, Keith would be way out of bounds if he simply took it upon himself to start offering advice to Lagares, or to anyone for that matter. He did say something about making a point of talking to Hudgens about what the philosophy/mind-set is in that type of AB I did merely suggest the volunteering of services, which you suggest he's done.
