  1. I tell you though. I have little doubt that big shots declaring a story to be boring has a pretty good history of making a story go away.
  2. Named the best defensive infielder in the Mets' system three years running.
  3. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I think the Hennster could stick around. Lefty and all. Absolutely. And I'm sure I said the same thing about Hamulack.
  4. Most ephemeral tenures among 2013 Mets: 5. Shawn Marcum 4. Collin McHugh 3. Brandon Lyon 2. Rick Ankiel 1. Aaron Laffey (I will forever think of him as the man who broke the MbtN franchise) Oddly enough, there are some guys for whom the imprint of their 2013 tenure is fading in my mind, even as they are currently on the team --- Frank Francisco, Aaron Harang, Sean Henn... those guys weren't ever on the 2013 Mets. Oh, wait, they are currently on the 2013 Mets? Really? I mean, Sean Henn... tell me that guy isn't Tim Hamulack trying to sneak back onto the team under a different name.
  5. By my unofficial count, Wilfredo Tovar will be the 53rd Met to appear this season, which will fall second only to the 54 put up by Bing Devine's 1967 team. Both teams sort of came in three waves --- the guys who broke camp, the midseason replacements brought in from outside the organization, and the lateseason callups. Guys who have gone pole to pole: [list:kcozgs8b][*:kcozgs8b]Dillon Gee[/*:m:kcozgs8b] [*:kcozgs8b]LaTroy Hawkins[/*:m:kcozgs8b] [*:kcozgs8b]Daniel Murphy[/*:m:kcozgs8b][/list:u:kcozgs8b] That's it. Those three guys have survived a small high school's worth of teammates coming and going. I'd hardly be shocked to find out Tovar isn't the last, either. This record is still within reach.
  6. I'm not sure I don't prefer using tiebreakers like head-to-head record, divisional record, league record, run differential, like the NFL does. Not sure I do, either.
  7. Then, I guess, either (1) Terry was lying, (2) Terry was hoping Duda or Recker would either fail to get the runner home or end it by plating two, (3) Terry hadn't really thought it through, (4) Terry was prepared to use Turner only if forced by a tie, or (5) it's a big congratulations to Zach Lutz or Daniel Murphy or Juan Lageres on a first MLB appearance at shortstop. It's been hard to deal with being shortbenched. It's particularly nettlesome in September.
  8. I'm pretty sure the object is a glove. I'd say that the jetstream could be from a different plane on the same route. But there's also the same pair of figures over the shoulder. I'd guess that these guys posed pretty much consecutively.
  9. Maybe Tovar was already in the house.
  10. Not that I don't feel warm feelings for Recker, and Prickly ones for Turner, but wasn't that a spot better suited for the latter. If I'm playing Strat-o-Matic, I pull out Turner's card every time there. Oh, right, he's still out of commission.
  11. I turned my heart to handsome Ant'ny Recker (Unlike Blaquiere, he is no Quebecker) "A dink!" I cried, "A doink! No upper decker!" I prayed, but lo, he failed to plate den Dekker
  12. They face Lucas Duda and will like' pitch around him Get him to chase --- outside pitches confound him I send him my hope, o my love is around him If he gets no a hit, let my rage ever hound him
  13. That bunt, that bunt, I did not advise it! I think, I think, I think I despise it!
  14. Time, it's time for ninth-inning drama Hit, den Dekker, and pause for no comma Make the pitcher cry out for his momma Strap me in now for some bat-on-ball trauma
  15. Scott Atchison --- the sort of show you PAY to see.
  16. Two out and the tying run on second here, and...
  17. Yeah. Tovar needs to show these guys how its done. Mets fail to plate the tying run from third in the sixth.
  18. And in fairness, a lot of those lynx I provided weren't exactly written yesterday.
  19. Rob Castellano is quite bullish on him, and he's not the only guy. There's like a very small cult of Tovar out there.
  20. Giants score none on one hit in the top of the foist. Our Murderer's Row answer that!
  21. Not lefthanded, hotshot. And Suzi Sadecki > Sarah Seaver.
  22. Strikes me as one of those guys Paul DePodesta thinks of as a stealth prospect, a la Juan Lagares, Climbing through the system with minimum fanfare but has the defensive skills to land now, but brass thinks the offensive ability is in there, if not yet discovered after a year and a half at Bingy. Probably isn't ready (no AAA), but probably as worthy of hope for improvement as Tejada.
  23. Wow! I have to start wishing for better things.
  24. Would lub to see another shortstop on this team.
