  1. Yeah, but you could get signals on channels 3, 6, 8 and 10 but switching the VHF channel there, and squirrling around with the UHF channel. God knows why we would do this, but we were kids. And anything that we would find would not only be snowy, but weird. German puppet shows with a cardboard set or something. Bigger questions, though. Name that batter for two points. Name that catcher for five points. Name that ump for ten points.
  2. If Rhon Wright has anything to say about it, it'll be McEwing.
  3. I know they wouldn't under that scenario. I'm just commenting in general.
  4. I'd hate to see the the Mets bumping up against Rush, but I'm long since over FAN. I realize that this is supposed to be a prime example of the Wilpons ruining everything but I couldn't give two shits. WFAN is awful. Doubly so with Doris dead and their highest profile personality being a sleepwalking blowhard. Yeah, maybe they land some place with a weak signal, but we'll see.
  5. Maybe, but (1) the official position is that Terry needs to showcase himself, and (2) as if Francisco is going to be re-signed? Terry, whatever his graces, is bringing his horse down the home stretch in a most Art Hovian manner.
  6. I like those little outlines of the channels in the rounded-corner rectangles to look like tiny TV screens. I'm trying to remember the distinction between the black number on the white background vs. the white on black. Was one network and the other local? One VHF and the other UHF?
  7. Speak the truth to power, Ronnie.

  9. I just mentally designated Francisco for assignment. Francisco, Felciano, and Byrdak, that's three guys who've spent half the year recovering, rehabbing, and minor-leaguing, none signed for next year, all getting real innings and stuff.
  10. RageWynn ?@RageWynn 4m Omfg Frank Francisco wear your hat like the grown ass adult you are you fucking buffoon.

There's political partisanship, religious paritsanship, and baseball. There's a little thing called KLASSIK RAWK, thank you. Everyone in the world has found a nu outlet for their music jones except the old and the stoned.
  13. There's always a "but" though. No more buts. Put it in your underwear until you're on the field. Force them to manhandle you. Let them try and seize the iPhones from all the clubhouse boys who recorded you getting dragged off by goons like Jim Morrison. But it's too late. One of them will upload it to YouTube in grainy slow mo set to "Peace and Love or Else" by U2. It'd be one of the most glorious moments in franchise history if just one of you would step. the fuck. up. You're David F. Aardsma. You're the first fucking name in The Baseball Encyclopedia. Who the hell are they? Let them come! I don't want to hear "I was gonna..." no more. I was gonna root for a pennant winner this year. Ante up.

  15. Letting a Venezuelan dictator throw out the first pitch. Shutting down the Gulf Coast Mets for a year. Aside from the on-the-field error of trading Brian Bannister for Ambiorix Burgos, there's the off-the-field failure that they seemingly allowed Omar to acquire a would-be serial killer.
  16. Letting the Yankees beat them to a partnership with the Nets, fracturing the symbolic fraternity of the Mets/Jets/Nets.

And coming back to the bigs, if nothing else, without his absolutely crippling penchant for chasing junk at his ankles, that was good too. Yes but..perhaps that was Lopez's influence? I know managers generally get credit/blame for everything, but the organization would probably have a better idea on who/what was responsible. If I recall, a lot of it was to stop having 17 people telling Ike was he needed to do so there's every chance that they sent him to Vegas with the instruction to only talk hitting with one specific person (which could've been Wally) and he's the one getting the credit internally. I don't know who get's credit or blame --- ultimately the player himself gets the lion's share. But as Lopez is the manager of Binghamton, he'd be about 47th on my list of who to credit. Seriously.
  18. I don't know. If we're going to count Minaya under stupid stuff they did, even if it was apparently under somebody else's initiative, there's got to be some credit for Alderson.
  19. Letting Piazza go ahead with the HomoDenial press conference instead of encouraging him to starve the story of the dignity of a public denial.
  20. That Minaya hiya also relates to the organization's over-willingness to carry water for the league's interests. Putting all their chips on Steve Phillips after the 2000 World Series and, when he lost control of his vision, firing Valentine instead.

Do what you want to do and go where you're going to, but you probably don't want to fall into the trap of exonerating Nelson Doubleday from what you didn't like during his senior partnership and crediting him with what you did. That's a dead end.
  22. Bending over backwards for veterans' causes, despite getting reamed over that Beltran/Perez thing.
