1. Query if this is actually a problem. Have any of those four guys hit well enough to justify an everyday spot in the lineup? The results to date indicate “no.” I don't know about everyday, and there is no reason to play any of them everyday in what now amounts to about 1.7 positions (third base, second against some lefties, DH against some righties)*, but they have mostly all been hitting the last couple of weeks. Mauricio in particular. They have certainly outplayed the non-Soto everyday players since the All-Star Break. I do question whether Mullins will outhit the composite of them going forward, but we will find out. I have seen him long enough to know he can. And hey, just some redundancy is a good thing. * They were sharing something like 2.4 positions before Mullins was acquired.
2. Is Stearns saying he's done? We have some time before the deadline ends! Twenty-five minutes, to be exact.
3. This hurts.
4. Oh, he has been. He is, like, MISTER 2021. The Mets should also re-acquire Cedric Landrum.
5. C. Everett Koop?
6. He has a long history of highlight catches, going way over the wall, and I am guessing that the Mets do not think that -13 is where he really is at. The real problem problem, I tend to think, is that, as a lefty, he won't really be taking much time away from Taylor, but more likely pushing McNeil back to the infield and taking time away from Baty/Vientos/Mauricio/Acuña. He will likely take a roster spot from Luisangel, too. OE: Has been hothanded of late, for what that is worth, going 10-for-23 over his last 7 games, with 5 doubles and 2 homers.
7. If my middle name was Blade, I might be tempted to drop my first and my last names.
8. That is what he looked like. I cannot speak much to who he actually was. He and Drew Gilbert are some sort of mystical package deal, like Jeff Kent and José Vizcaino. They played together at Tennessee and they played together with the US national team. They met up again in the Mets system and played together at Syracuse, and now they go off to become Giants together. Blade and Drew, Drew and Blade. Here are them in their college days with Team USA, with Tidwell looking thinner and Bladier. (Warning: "Born in the USA" misuse.)
9. Ryan Clifford — the other outfielder the Mets got for Justin Verlander — has 21 homers and 67 RBI in Binghamton this year. He could well end up replacing Gilbert at AAA.
10. As a second-round draft pick with the name "Blade," I expected him to be sleek and athletic and aquiline. It's not like he was fat and un-athletic, but he was just big — round face, broad across the shoulders, enormous thighs. He looked like his roommates gave him the name Meat, or Boner, or Chewy a week into freshman year, and the whole campus knew him by that name by Thanksgiving. And they all wanted him for their intramural basketball team, because even though he was the last guy down the court, nobody could get around him in the paint, and he could outleap taller guys for the jump ball. Wore sandals and shades and touristy Mexican print tops to class. Somehow graduated on time even if it seemed like he divided his time between carbo-loading and pickup basketball. [FIMG=600]https://metsrostercentral.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/blade.jpg[/FIMG] He is listed as only 207, but he seemed to be a member in good standing of The Future Jeff D'Amicos of America.
11. Got mostly roughed around six games in the 2024 post-season, and that may have been a factor as the team decided he was expendable.
12. Butt was a prominent part of his name and a prominent part of his physique. Seemed like an aggressive pitcher who got everything around the plate. Seemed wasn't worth much, however, as he didn't get a whole lot over the plate. Somehow was generally successful despite a walk rate consistently over 4. Seemed (that word again) like he spent most of 2025 trying to catch up. Cool calm head, looked to Heaven when walking off the mound. First appeared in 2022 and has stuck with 70 every year since then, which I guess makes him our all-time 70. Three roses tatted on his forearm. 13. The guy has spent the whole year (apart from some injury and rehab time) at AAA and is doing well (currently very well), so I don't agree with Cohen here. He could have been up in a few weeks. Maybe sooner for the Giants. And he won't be 25 until after the season.
14. WAR is limited, but probably has the least utility when comparing relievers.
15. 16. What sealed the Céspedes trade was his willingness to play center when center was what the Mets needed. Maychance Yo-Yo wants to come out of his unofficial retirement.
17. Are you new to the Internet? No. What an odd question.
18. Every player has 'it' if you don't define what 'it' is.
19. Whoah. Did we acquire Tyler Rogers Hornsby?
20. I liked that the Mets loosened the San Francisco hold on him by sweeping the Giants.
21. Righty relieving submariner, we just saw in San Francisco, reportedly acquired for compensation not yet disclosed. Not to be confused with twin brother Taylor, currently lefthanding for Cincinnati. (On edit: Taylor has apparently also been traded, going to Pittsburgh in the KeBryan Hayes trade. Among Met pitchers, probably only Chad Bradford brought it from lower. He has a 1.80 ERA and a walk rate so low that the Mets might have to ostracize him.
22. That came into play when we where trying to acquire Kodai Sentra.
23. Actually I am kinda curious what we could get for a pre-owned Toyota. Maybe with some Hankook tires.
24. Well, we get a chance to, but no.
25. Well, we get to pinch-hit for Taylor next inning, so ... .
