  1. I, myself, have a heart like a wheel.
  2. Had a black Chris Young and a white Chris Young. Black Bobby Jones and white Bobby Jones. So yeah, bring it on.

  4. We have a very whiffy team.
  5. And how about if Wilmer doesn't spike his relays?
  6. That's a 10-pitch strikeout for Grandy. #progress!

  8. Lefty Specialist giving us just ONE of the many helpful hints from the Citi Field AZ Guide.

  10. April and September --- big months for chasing no-hit glory.
  11. I'm afraid of Linda.
  12. I think there's a huge amount of ambiguity in the word "partial." We're all in the dark there.
  13. She has an MA in physical therapy. I can't possibly doubt those sorts of credentials.
  14. Jason Bay, I believe, took the full three days while his wife and child were in town. It's his right and I don't begrudge the Moifs. I'm sure he'll be ripped from here to Florida for his lack of commitment to his work --- by fans goofing off from work to go to games, call in to sports radio, or post on the Iinternet... like ME! That said, I'm rooting like hell for Wilmer to get about eight hits.
  15. Well, agreeing as we seem to that ESPN has failed to deliver baseball news and programming in a manner and volume commensurate with their market position, our only conflict here seems to be whether to drive them, through shaming, toward their own redemption, or to ignore them entirely, and so further empower their competitors who better fulfill our baseball-loving mandate.
  16. Ceetar wrote: I doubt the Wilpons are the ones hiring the traffic cops in charge of directing people to the lots. But I totally see Saul Katz ALL OVER that Pulaski Skyway fiasco.
  17. Mex17 wrote: What if you don't want to take public transportation? Then caveat emptor. New York and traffic is a tough mix. Always has been. There are two types of games as far I'm concerned: games I made in time for the first pitch and/or ceremonies, and games where I arrived saying "I probably should have planned this better --- my bad." Life in the city. But there's a ton of info letting folks know the most convenient options. I arrived in time for the third pitch once, and John Maine was already out of the game --- and his Mets career, as it would turn out. That's on me.
  18. I cried.
  19. Least he didn't break his catcher's ankle. Oh, dear. Opening day pitchers: City: New York Opponent: Washington Pitcher: Nu mayor Bill de Blasio, accompanied by children from East Harlem whose neighborhood was damaged by an explosion. Reaction: Boos Pitch: Steeeee-rike Result: Mets lose, 9-7 City: Pittsburgh Opponent: Chicago (N) Pitcher: Scott Kiner, son of Hall-of-Famer Ralph Kiner Reaction: Cheers (boos saved for Barry Bonds' return) Pitch: Hard to say, but he threw from the rubber. Result: Pittsburgh wins, 1-0 on a walkoff homer by Neil Walker. What went down in Detroit?
  20. d'Kong76 wrote: I forget who said it at the tailgate that I was at, that it would have been nice to have someone from Kiner's family to throw out the first pitch. It certainly would have, but the pre-game festivities were drunk with Kinerliness. Many (not in your party, I imagine) tried to frame it as a slight. Mleph. Gerrie Coetzee --- that guy was a big Boer.
  21. Certainly. So fanzz decrying that the owners don't recognize the history of the team are, in this case, failing to recognize that history themselves.
  22. There's no "so." My point is my point. It doesn't rebut yours but develops on it.
  23. I like the idea of naming a kid off of the biggest film released the week he was born. Hard to find historical release dates, but if my parents played it that way, my name might have been either "Doolittle" or "Cool Hand Luke." Another distinct possibility is "Hombre."
  24. Sew buttons. You've got a lot of chips on a lot of shoulders.
  25. Yes, but that part of the story is done after 1987. By the end of his tenure, it was about finding the right combination of Pena and Whitehurst and Musselman to serve as a bridge to John Franco to pile up one-inning saves.
