  1. Aaron has a tic. Uses "really" whenever he can't find a word.
  2. Aaron still sharp.
  3. Brave unis looking smart. Listening to Commissioner Gordon in the Braves booth.
  4. My theory is that, when all is said and done, Girardi is going to be the sole reason Posada doesn't make the Hall of Fame. By keeping Posada on the bench as the starting catcher at the start of Jorge's career, and by benching him as manager at the end, the numbers fall short even as the rates do not.
  5. The main record I'm aiming at setting with a flaming vengeance is the one where the Mets win 100% of the big league ballgames in Georgia tonight. [youtube:26dv3b45]-HRdYCLZMqs[/youtube:26dv3b45]
  6. G-Fafif wrote: Rickey, Ripken mentioned above. Here I am going "That dummy didn't see Ripken was already mentioned," and the dummier one was me.
  7. That gif has me hypnotized. I could watch that all day. I would not need to eat. I would not need to sleep. That makes me bad.
  8. Good summary. Only one I might add to the list (to the bottom, maybe) is Rickey's 130 stolen bases. Rod Carew and George Brett entering September with a real crack at .400 was something. Boggs and Gwynn made runs, but they were climbing up from the .350s as August faded. Carew and Brett were up there in the .400 stratosphere and it was just heroic watching them try to hang in there.
  9. batmagadanleadoff wrote: Of course, all counties are far from equal. It's the same county for every voter, whether they voted Mets or Yanks or any other team. No, my point was --- and I thought it was pretty clear --- that there is not one country shown here, but 3,144 counties, and 46% of respondents in Queens and 39% in Brooklyn and 41% in Nassau and 34% in Morris beats 100% of Frontier County, Nebraska. batmagadanleadoff wrote: That's right. A smaller piece. Even in Queens. But #1 with me. The rest is... the rest. Shucks, the organization needs to try harder, but we know the story of the Jeter era and what the results have been, map or no map. I'm far from shocked.
  10. That's some hard-to-corral logic. Not saying you're wrong. But what outcome exactly would then vindicate Alderson?
  11. Of course, all counties are far from equal. A smaller piece of a far bigger pie is what we're talking about. It ain't a victory, but neither is it a shutout. I'm still here, aren't I?! And you're still there!
  12. He didn't break any teams, but he and his contract have been a part of two teams that have broken since it was signed.
  13. Just Liked the Mets.
  14. We're papering the place with H8 today.
  15. Eyeball judgment of says Ruben looked solid at short during the Reds series.
  16. Pelfrey without the split or breaking ball Adam Rubin (@AdamRubinESPN) on Matt Harvey, July 12, 2012 The work he puts in suggests he's more reporter than we deserve. What would we do without him? And then, every few months or so, he's got land one of these pointless Mike Francessa-like everbody's-an-idiot-but-me punches, positioning himself as both populist and elitist and looking phony and sad in both roles. The notion that no draftees have made any impact isn't really fair. And two and a half years out from the first draft is a tough time to definitievely judge. Development takes time, especially when drafting high schoolers. AND you have to take amateur foreign free agent signings along with the draftees.
  17. Well, those numbers include some of the earlier years when the players were still denying the park was getting in their heads, and then after alterations were made, suggested they were lying and it was getting in their heads. But it's not like the relative records have improved any in the last year or two, have they?
  18. Think of all the money he was given, and he blew it on Jason Bay, Luis Castillo, Johan Santana, Billy Wagner, Francisco Rodriguez. I could go on!! For God's sake, the man set up a deal that has us still paying Bobby Bonilla!! What was he thinking? It was Sandy Alderson that asked me root for Tom Glavine as my opening day pitcher, and it was Sandy Alderson that denied me the opportunity to rub myself all over with a Kevin Mitchell MVP season, which WAS MY BIRTHRIGHT!! Firing is TOO GOOD FOR HIM!
  19. Well, since you aggressively and repeadedly predict failure for just about everyone, perhaps you can tell me how looking foolish feels.
  20. I'd also like to retroactively predict that Darryl Strawberry will return to the minors after his slow start in 1983 and spend a good chunk of the season down there. #GoMikeHoward!
  21. Is there data to suggest that the struggle to find pitching is any more acute than at other times through history? Is there data to suggest that injuries are actually "skyrocketing"? Does this man or woman consider that the law of unintended consequences would explode all over his or her plan? Perhaps making the new higher concentration of quality pitching to fill games with less offense, making it less appealing to the benighted coming generation desperate for more action? Can we go through the teams Olney regularly covers and conclude that his source is embedded in one of their front offices? That's pretty much the Yankees, the Sox, and the Giants, right?
  22. You may ask, "That bullpen can't be doing it all over again, can they?" Yes, kids, it can. So far, the relief squad has put up a 1.35 ERA in 13 innings, with an opponent OPS of .398. But they've allowed one stolen base in one attempt, so they CAN BE RUN ON. Seriously, if you want to beat these guys, and you do, get to them early and often. 23. Top One Jims in Met History Who've Been in My Kitchen Beauchamp ?? The guy lived around the block from me when I was a kid. Seriously, though, how quickly that Top Ten Jims list drops off the cliff after #2.
  24. If I recall correctly, Lockwood spent a few years himself trying to rehabilitate injures before succumbing to retirement. His contemporary Bob Apodaca sure did. It's the way of things.
  25. Black hits DL with a pinched nerve in his neck, with is getting to be a little too fashionable among closer candidates for my tastes. It's, like, the new black!
