  1. Hitting some starters. Starting some hitters would be nice too.
  2. Well, I don't think he's that crappy. At least with regard to his on-base abilities. He's not my first choice, but considering the spring training array of starters they were going with yesterday, he would have been the one I'd have gone for in that position.

If Buddy doesn't practically stop on his way to home only to gear up again too late then he's at the plate waiting for the on time and accurate throw and we probably get the out on Ozuna. This is true. And how surreal was it that the Mets fell behind on a boner in the late innings and Keith just couldn't stop talking about how great Recker looked on that play, even though it ultimately failed? Complacency, complacency, complacency. Marcia, Marcia, Marcia.
  4. Centerfield wrote: The "had he executed" line of reasoning is not a valid defense to a bad decision. Yeah, I bring up execution as an additional sin, not as the real sin or anything. If I'm starting Tejada, I bat him second and Laggy fifth, so at least I can take advantage of his on-base skill. Batting in the middle of the lineup, well, he's the guy you want to face with runners on base.
  5. Complacency is the true arch-rival!
  6. Centerfield wrote: This is the first game I can remember in a while where I feel like the manager gave it away. I understand sitting Cuddyer because he has looked lost. But you cannot play Recker and Tejada in the same night. Especially on a night where we are starting Montero. You don't pitch to Stanton there. Make someone else beat you. Tejada should have sat down after Flores pinch hit. And you absolutely fucking do NOT bunt Tejada there after the Murphy double. Of the Marlins 4 runs, one was driven in by Stanton with 2 bases open. Another came in on a wild pitch. The last one came after Torres walked two hitters. It's enough to make you rip your hair out. I agree with a lot of this. And you left out batting Tejada sixth. But there are also execution problems to nail them for. Murphy should have scored on the dropped fly, and Terry should have pulled him when he did not. Tejada should have gotten that bunt to the right side.
  7. Short benches are for the American League, guys.
  8. [fimg=250]http://www.milb.com/images/2011/01/24/FV5ljMVh.jpg[/fimg] Thanks, Juan! [fimg=250]http://the305.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/mike-redmond-marlins-manager.jpg[/fimg] Bite me, Wally!
  9. Wow! I'll say right now, I didn't think that one was going out.
  10. Man, walking the eight guy to get to the pitcher. Good thing Ronnie isn't here. I like the move, but I hate to see a number in the walk column. Phelps doesn't look helpless up there.
  11. Man, Itchy is still a fast mouse.
  12. I don't want to make a deal out of things where there's no deal, but Murph should be riding pine right now.
  13. Hey, MLB teams, you could have had this guy if you'd pony'd up.
  14. Eight up and eight down with five strikeouts. OE: nine.
  15. That's what we get for letting shortstops bat!

My point is that there is evidence of that textual color scheme in Met uniforms going back to the early 1980s, most likely because the home BP/ST blue unis since the introduction of a blue top are full orange, as opposed to the black which was introduced due to marketing strategies that pro teams were doing in the 1990s. Yes, and my point is and was that when you refute an argument that isn't being made, you're using a good man as a straw man. That's me. A good man. Exploited and used by the likes of you. It's turrible.

  18. We're fine. The office sent us all home yesterday at 2:00. We all thought it was an over-reaction. We all thought wrong. Working from home today and a little less able to effectively do my job at a time when getting my job done is a little more important. It's an amazing, and I would guess unprecedented, decision. There are 5-10 fine minor league parks in the area: Bowie, Aberdeen, etc. Or set up shop at Nationals Park. But I guess smarter people than I have found these solutions to be non-feasible.
  19. That's so good the keyboard probably just started playing itself in celebration of its proximity. You want to improve your organization, you screw around with the things that aren't working so well, and you leave the things that are working well alone, until every other thing is just working so damn awesomely well that those things that were your strongest assets decades ago are not as strong, relative to the lofty mean of all the awesome stuff you've developed in the meantime. Has anybody, living or dead, ever said, "Damn, the Mets insignia just isn't really working"? I can think of 20 other ways to improve the Mets brand assets without touching that insignia.
  20. Hmmm.... HMMMM.....
  21. That's true. What the hell?

  23. I don't really have a feel for this ballpark yet, but even thinking like it was the old, cavernous Miami stadium, Murphy's shot felt gone off the bat. Can you imagine if this is what Gee is becoming? If everybody is taking a cue from Harvey or whoever and just throwing strikaroonies? Among Colon, Harvey, and deGrom, this pitching staff was already looking like George Bamberger's fantasy team. If Niese and Gee get with the program and stay effective mon Dieu! this may not be our last 90-minute win. Eighty-six pitches combined among three guys, with 68 going for strikes (79.1%). Could this have been the strikiest night in Mets history? Three walks to Duda, and really, very little hittable was thrown to him. You get the idea the whole division is afraid of him right now, and he's willing to take the free passes, until they come around. Too bad that Cuddyer couldn't punish them for it, but when the team gets closer to full strength, that strategy isn't going to keep working. and besides, eventually Murphy did punish them for it. It just took 25 outs first. Flores looked pretty good all night in the field. I'm not afraid that he'll stink. I have no illusions of him being a big defensive asset, but I am afraid that a bad series like the one in the Bronx could send him into a spiral. Not this time. I mentioned in the IGT, but not bunting last week against extreme shifts that Atlanta and the Yankees were using, with creaky old catchers, but then laying one down against Realmuto, who is a shortstop in catching gear, that hurt. Great play by him. Miami booth tended to sing the praises of Ozuna's defense during the game, like, "We have two of the best defensive center fielders out there." Yeah, not so much two. Campbell, as Frayed Knot showed, is a good heads-up baserunner. But Cishek was asleep out there and he has a big, noisy delivery motion. Make a note of that and keep running on him. Pretty sweet to put a stop to Miami's recovery. Keep it up and Backman may get a job yet.
