  1. It's been, like, a million hours since it was announced that Johnny Ryall was heading to New York for the Baltimore series. And yet, and yet, and yet, no announcement has been forthcoming with regard to his activation along with a corresponding demotion. I'm calling it. A trade is coming and it involves Plawecki. It'll be announced within two hours, for I have foreseen it.
  2. I wonder what date he's eligible to reinstated to society. I'm never going to forget about that guy. Most hateful Met ever, and even apart from that an avatar for all Omar Minaya transactions ever.
  3. Crawford is arby eligible in 2016 and a freebie in 2018. He's not really an OBP guy which I'd like in a shortstop but he's maybe shown enough power in recent years that they can slot him in sixth, and keep Granderson perhaps at leadoff for the time being. Wilmer Flores could fulfill San Francisco's desire for a long-term third baseman.
  4. If we get skunked by Bud F. Norris, you KNOW we'll be sending out an SOS.
  5. It's certainly possible. And reports had the Giants scouting the Mets during the weekend series. I don't know what's available, but I do think the scenario of packaging an excess starter with one of their hitters (Murphy, Flores...) would make some sense, as there would be a redundancy if they brought in another hitter. They'll have to make some room. I know I like Brandon Crawford, but he's like their best hitter right now. It'll likely take more than Murphigee to shake him free.
  6. I had generally written off 2014 as reflective of the terrible tragedy in his family. But who knows? I imagine more than a few people never recover professionally from that sort of blow.
  7. Surprised someone's thinking about a shortstop reload and doesn't look to the teams whose season is getting away from them specifically the Brewers and Jean Segura. OE: Man, the Rangers stink too. And they were looking at a three-way logjam at short going into this season before Profar went down.
  8. Benjamin Grimm wrote: It's hard to believe that this thread went almost two years without an update. And then POW!!! Two hours later and I'm back again.
  9. Tyler Pill and the 51s rained out against the Isotopes.
  10. I don't believe he was adopted at all.
  11. Tweets reporting that Monell is on his way to New York to avenge himself upon the Orioles for keeping him down and dissing his glove. No transactions have been announced yet, so the corresponding move is still a matter of speculation. Will be the first Bronx-born Met since Bobby Bonilla unceremoniously showed the Boogie Down to bob Kapisch.
  12. PCL Pitcher of the Week. That's what you get for waiting until the game is over to hit the clubhouse spread.
  13. Last two starts. Mon vs. Albuquerque: 7 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 9 K Sat vs. Reno: 7 IP, 0 R, 4 H, 2 BB, 10 K That's 26 Ks and 8 walks in 21 2/3 innings on the season.
  14. How terrific is it that Batman in concert at Shea prompted the Times to send their music critic? And that he critiqued classical and had a soft spot for good folk as well, but hated rock 'n' roll.
  15. As you know, Duda was used in the platoon role for the Mets in 2011, 2012, and 2013, showing substantial power but considerable fluctuation in his batting averages and OBP. I don't think this is quite accurate. It was tru-ish enough in 2010, but not so much thereafter. YearPA vs. LHPA vs. RHRatio20116827920%/80%201214831132%/68%201311027429%/71% And those OBP fluctuations are a little deceptive, as his walk rate remained pretty consistently high.
  16. If I had a line to Jay Horwitz, he'd never stop hearing about it.
  17. Boom! Logan Verrett boomerangs back to the Mets. As if Las Vegas wasn't strong enough.
  18. Curious to see that the team looks average-to-good even when measuring by DPR (runs saved by double plays, which is a number I thought might be damning). Somewhere there's a "Marginal double plays," number where somebody is measuring double plays against actual opportunities when a team gets an actual grounder with a force on the basepaths. Maybe if we can find that, we'll see the blip of Wilmer's (and Murphy's) impact, but even that probably takes some time to sort out in the wash. Sunday's lone run scored only after the infield twice failed to turn DPs; in Saturday's game the Nats scored while never getting the ball out of the infield. [fimg=450]http://cinefreaks.gr/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/the-lost-weekend.jpg[/fimg] Of course, this weekend indicts the offense as well as the defense, and I imagine the former is the higher priority for the team to address. (I'm telling you... bunt!)
  19. By unearned runs, the team doesn't look so bad, having allowed only seven, tied for 11th in the league. The Nats are last by a lot, with 24 unearned runs, 50% more than the next to last. TheMets sit in the middle of the pack with a "0" figure for defensive runs saved, but I suspect that's the tally from a strong positive number in the outfield, and a low negative number in the infield.
  20. I think Murph being the primary left-handed pinch hitter being the sixth infielder is fine, whether or not he can play the outfield.
  21. [fimg=320:13u78ydp]http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/board/attachments/ootp-mods-rosters-photos-quick-starts/363722d1413935615-gambo-t_wil1-photopack-john_pacella_-1984_orioles-_2.jpg[/fimg:13u78ydp]
  22. Las Vegas 51s have won 10 in a row. They sit atop the PCL Southern Division, and they're getting timely hits from even the likes of Wilfredo Tovar. Sounds like the high times of the Mets 10 days ago. Winless Tyler Pill takes the pill today against Albuquerque, who counter with MLB vet, ex-Met, and Long Beach's own John Lannan.
  23. He's certainly demonstrated usefulness in the past. It's cold comfort now, of course. But the challenge is when to distinguish a current and active pattern of failure with an actual inability. It's even harder to distinguish in the low-sample-size/high-stakes world of lefty pinch hitting. AAA options are available: Alex Castellanos, Johnny Monell, Darrell Ceciliani, Travis Tajeiron (righty, but still), Cory Vaughn. All are hitting (including Vaughn, who hasn't hit consistently for the last three seasons, it seems) as the 51s streak on. Castellanos has the highest OPS in the PCL by like 160 points. I tend to think, though that they're looking at trades. San Francisco has supposedly been scouting the Mets, and Gee and Murphy would fit well with them, even if Gee's last start was a head-scratcher. Indeed, if Dilson gets going, it might solve a few problems, with Murphy himself turning out to be the veteran lefty on the bench for the team.
  24. Well, I would imagine the replacement they would seek would be a guy who is more field tested as a bench player.
  25. It's the strange nature of these films that, while one may leave me underwhelmed or overwhelmed or both simultaneously (this one did), I then end up having more sympathy for the previous one. They're like latter-day U2 albums in that sense.
