  1. May be the two stinkiest losses of the year in two days.
  2. I thought Cuddyer WAS who they brought in. The Cubs announcer said it was him. Monell kept the game from ending earlier with two or three stops of balls in the dirt. At least one and intuitive stab at a bouncing fastball.
  3. Well, that ends the walk off streak.
  4. Fire Collins... because of his poor cleanup skills? I'd have discouraged him from going to the pen unless he was going right to Familia, I'll agree with that. But most other managers would do what he did. And Jerry would decry his lack of a bullet-proof eighth-inning guy. But no manager on earth wins a lot of games with one run to work with.
  5. Welcome to the biggies, Samantha van Veen.
  6. He was recruited by Colorado. But he ended up playing baseball for Azusa Pacific U.
  7. Here's another one of those opportunities I've been reading about.
  8. That Flores pop out in the first is leaving a bad taste in my mouth. Opportunities have been too hard to come by.
  9. It's probably happened before, and more than once, but I'm not sure I've ever noticed, but I'm just realizing now that yesterday's was the first time I've taken note of both teams opening with pitcher-batting-eighth lineups.
  10. Is he making more consistent contact than the Kirk? Because I'm growing whiff weary.

Sure, but we're attempting to avoid worse. It's a delicate balance. You don't want to move too soon and confuse action with successful problem-solving.
  12. deGrom certainly took a few starts to gain traction also.

I grant you that they lost 2 of their better hitters, but teams lose players to injury all the time. Most of those teams are badly damaged if it's two of their top hitters. I don't know what the answer is. But (1) there are worse things than weathering an injury trend in May while in first place, and (2) I'm starting to feel that while Murphy may well recover, he doesn't really fit on this team offensively or defensively.
  14. I think his curve showed up nicely. I agree with you about his spottiness on his fastball though. And agree that he's more Wheeler than Harvey. And agree that he'll be better than Wheeler. His motion is closer to Harvey's. And that's why I can't go in for this Thorgasm stuff. It sets the guy up to fail and is a dangerous distraction during an important transition.
  15. He sure seems out of his element. Distracted, a little lazy, tired maybe. Pressing and pissy at the same time, but I'm sure that's me just seeing things. With Wright out, it's like it's his infield, but he's just too aloof (or seems it of late) to lead anybody into battle. Tejada and Duda seem sharper and more locked in, but neither of them can provide a rallying point because Tejada is embattled and Duda is Duda.

  17. And Murphy looked like Castillo. Two hands, Rube.
