  1. I guess it wasn't too late for him to salvage this season after all.
  2. Jeurys' selection a few days ago? Potent, it seems. He threw his finest ball of the season in knocking off MFTampa: 6 2/3 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 9 K. Let's see some more of that, kiddo. Done and done. Against first-place Palm Beach, no less 7.0 IP, 1 ER, 7 H, 0 BB, 9 K, 0 HR Who the heck was that?
  3. Nice number kid. I always thought that might look good on a power hitter at Shea.
  4. Lost in the non-excitement of the Mets universe last week was news that Eddie Lora --- the throw-in in the Wagner/Carter trade --- after triple-slashing to the sweet tune of .088 / .209 / .235 // .445 at Kingsport this year, has announced his retirement from baseball at the age of 21. I didn't really get a chance to adopt him, seeing as how he packed it in before I signed up. I just looked up and there he was, all quitted. I said, "Eddie, what the hell? You stunk, but it was only 12 games." He just shrugged and said, "It was really important to the team to get some measure of a win out of the deal, so I thought I'd beat Wagner by retiring faster than he did. SUCKER!"
  5. Don't know what's going on, but Lutz --- who's been as hot as David Wright has been cold --- was pulled in the third inning last night.
  6. I haven't seen a Leonardo DiCaprio film since Catch Me if You Can, so I'm basing this on the publicity shots and trailers for his films, but doesn't his head seem to be getting progressively larger with each movie?
  7. The subject seems irrelevant enough, but is rendered large by the performances and other touches. I've got say though, athletically, the Leeds players look like a bunch of sad sacks who couldn't beat my junior high team. I went Stoke City. Ms. Edgy enjoyed it and Sheen's performance as the asshole at the center of the story. Maybe too much.
  8. You just know this guy has partied with A Boy Named Seo.
  9. I realize this guy is getting a late start and is playing largely with younger guys, but holy crap. After going 2-4 for the (running away with the division) Brooklyn Cyclones yesterday, he's up to .391, and has a chance to become the league's first .400 hitter in four decades.
  10. Hard to believe that, with all the takes you need and compression and other technology, you can't really improve on Currie's live vocal, but there you go.
  11. Jeurys and Brad Holt are something of a 1-2 punch of disappointment this season.
  12. DC went 3-3 with a triple, walk, and stolen base yesterday. He's going from top hitter on the Cyclones to top hitter in Cyclones history.
  13. I demand Bruce Willis as Art Howe or I'm not making the picture.
  14. Long Beach State Dirtbag Rylan Sandoval gets some nice ink today in the News. Adopt him and his beauty queen name.
  15. Sounds like The Spirit of '76.
  16. Yeah, Mario Van Peebles was really typecast in black roles. I didn't know Pele ever did gay porn. Really, all you needed to get backing for an eighties movie was a tagline of "They've got nothing in common but..."
  17. Those three starts? They weren't fill-ins here and there. Those were his last three consecutive appearances, throwing four, seven, and six scoreless, respectively. He's thrown 23 2/3 consecutive without giving up a run.
  18. Photo editors feeling kinda stupid? I hope so. TeamLeagueWLERAGGSCGSHOSVIPHRERHRBBSOGO/AOAVGSAVSAL501.0125300153.13776017451.6.201
  19. Senior citizen diabolists. Textbook creepy.
  20. Nobody takes you seriously when your name looks like two other names impacted, but it took openings elsewhere in the system for Jordanny to get some reg'lar PT this season, and he's starting to heat up, going 9-18 over four games last week --- and then going 0-12 this weekend. Anywhich, Jordany's a solid .296 /.330 / .453 // .782 for the St. Lucies this summer, splitting time between short and second.
  21. Can somebody tell me the big holy diff between Rugby Union and Rugby League?
  22. Yeah, airless is fair. Whatever strength it musters gets sapped by not one, but two cheesy triumphant ballads. Perfectly fine performances, but some sloppy story development. I know more about Mandela's philosophy and (some) more about his burden, but I don't really feel I know him or Francois Pienaar very well. Not that everything has to tie up perfectly neatly. Disney sports movies always do that, and still mostly suck. But, I don't know, I guess I don't walk away as big a fan of the sport or the team as I should, considering their tremendous accompliment.
  23. Trade him to the Orioles for someone named Shea.
  24. Foul weather and foul music can't stop the B-Mets and Sean Ratliff:
  25. Seannie-Boy headed up to Bingo to replace Nieuwenheis, and threw up five homers and 12 ribs in 13 games. Girls love that sort of shit. "I was excited to get the call-up and see what I was made of at a higher level with a little bit better pitching. The fact that I came out and swung the bat well the first week here was big for me, and I had to make a statement to show I was ready to play at this level." Oh, yeah, bland and beautiful. Isn't chew banned in the minors now?
