  1. Nobody takes you seriously when your name looks like two other names impacted, but it took openings elsewhere in the system for Jordanny to get some reg'lar PT this season, and he's starting to heat up, going 9-18 over four games last week --- and then going 0-12 this weekend. Anywhich, Jordany's a solid .296 /.330 / .453 // .782 for the St. Lucies this summer, splitting time between short and second.
  2. Can somebody tell me the big holy diff between Rugby Union and Rugby League?
  3. Yeah, airless is fair. Whatever strength it musters gets sapped by not one, but two cheesy triumphant ballads. Perfectly fine performances, but some sloppy story development. I know more about Mandela's philosophy and (some) more about his burden, but I don't really feel I know him or Francois Pienaar very well. Not that everything has to tie up perfectly neatly. Disney sports movies always do that, and still mostly suck. But, I don't know, I guess I don't walk away as big a fan of the sport or the team as I should, considering their tremendous accompliment.
  4. Trade him to the Orioles for someone named Shea.
  5. Foul weather and foul music can't stop the B-Mets and Sean Ratliff:
  6. Seannie-Boy headed up to Bingo to replace Nieuwenheis, and threw up five homers and 12 ribs in 13 games. Girls love that sort of shit. "I was excited to get the call-up and see what I was made of at a higher level with a little bit better pitching. The fact that I came out and swung the bat well the first week here was big for me, and I had to make a statement to show I was ready to play at this level." Oh, yeah, bland and beautiful. Isn't chew banned in the minors now?
  7. What? And leave TJ Chism behind?
  8. This Beltran guy down in St. Lucie is pretty good. How about his teammate Eric Campbell, though? He's havnig a genuine 3-4-5 season (.336-.415-.524), having never sniffed that stratosphere before. He was born in the baseball hotbed of Evansville, IN., but comes out Norwich, CT. He plays first and third, and should be in Buffalo by next year.
  9. What a jerk!
  10. Somebody needs to ride this white pony, and that somebody is going to be me. Sean, who spells his name according to the Irish standard, has had a solid start in St. Lucie, going .275 / .331 / .432 // .763. Not great, but solid for a centerfielder. But solid enough that he got the call up to AA when Kirk Nieuwenhuis developed a sore shoulder. Joining the team with Silky Smooth Josh Satin, his first seven games there have been Power City, going .323/.323/.677 // 1.000. Yeah, no walks and eight strikouts isn't the golden path to success, but he's new at this AA business. Sean shares Chris Carter's Stanford pedigree. (Sociology major, yuck.) I'll additionally have you know that he went 4-0 as a part-time pitcher his senior year (with a 6.68 ERA --- thank you, Pac-10). His Stanford career, in fact, added up to a hell of an MLB season, hitting .307, with 152 hits, 115 runs scored, 26 doubles, eight triples, 34 home runs, 117 RBI and 18 stolen bases in 150 games (123 starts). He was the Mets fourth-round pick in 2008, has had a steady minor league career, but was looking like an organizational player in search of a breakthrough season. And you don't want to waste that sosh degree by becoming a rotting organizational player. So with two homers yesterday against the New Briton Rock Cats, maybe this is his moment.
  11. Puerto Ricans = dark caucasians Italians = fair caucasians.
  12. On Allen, absolutely. That's why I think they must be brilliant. Their concession to diznifying the movie is to take on this guy who is a stamped and branded Disney commodity, when they in fact have the perfect role for him. Make out like it's a painful consession, then... psyche! Now we don't have to have the Britney Spears song!
  13. Willets Point wrote: The one I saw was basically a "comedy" about a brutal rape. I can deal w/o seeing any more misogynistic shit like that. Oh, sure. But the reason folks indulged him on that insane conceit is because he had made films such as Women on the Verge earlier in his career about women finding empowerment, so they thought there... must... be... a point.... But you're right. It was fucking awful.
  14. I know. It's almost like every day they have staffers whose job it is to keep Disney out of the room. "OK, we'll take Tim Fucking Allen. And you have to concede these five points. Now get the fuck out of here." We didn't get anywhere with Cars, though.
  15. I'll throw out the caveat that the quality, tone, and self-indulgence of Almodovar films vary wildly. I guess I mean to say that I saw an Almodovar film once and swore Id never subject myself to another, except I had already seen this first, and it was a whole differentl animal. Not that I'll pity you or anything if you dies without seeing it.
  16. Two votes? Thought more of us had seen this bebe.
  17. OK, well, if you've seen the first two, you'll know what you're getting. And if you're Frayed Knot, well, you'll get what you're getting. Set about decade after Toy Story 2, installment three has Andy's toys neglected as he's grown through his teen years and is only days away from leaving for college. Like a dysfunctional family, they still derive no greater pleasure than his attention, only nobody can quite remember the last time he gave them any. They've resigned themselves to exile in the attic with the consolation that at least they'll have each other, and maybe Woody might get brought along to the dorm room for sentimental purposes. (It's a small victory that Woody seems fine with, but I ask myself, would the horrors in human development that he'll witness there be worth it?) Anyhow, arguments break out as to whether the gang should try to manipulate themselves into the box going to be donated to a local day care center, or accept the attic. When they come within a hair of being thrown in the garbage, they run for the relative sanctity of Day Care. New themes develop about growth and acceptance and family and loyalty and what's left when your faith is shaken, and it's all wonderfully rendered. The only thing I can throw out there is that a lot of the plot devices from the prior installments return, though I won't point them out because maybe you're quite dull and won't see them coming. But you know, sequels tend to take plot elements and amp them up, and any heart comes as a clumsy afterthought. This one leaves the plot elements at the same level, but starts with the heart. And in fact, you get the idea that they kept this franchise on ice for over a decade because they wouldn't bring it back until they had a meaningful reason to. Do you like gay jokes? Because, for a G-Rated movie from Didney, this film has more than a few gay jokes.
  18. 66% I feel like I'm 2/3 dead.
  19. A cowboy, a spaceman, and a bunch of other toys that have appeared together in some other films return to the screen as they grapple with their fates and examine their core values in preparing for the child they've raised together to go off to college. Tengo mis pensamientos.
  20. Or it's just bad luck. Or it's just that injuries tend to beget injuries. Toby Hyde is fine, but as much Havens is exhibiting the "Fernando Martinez problem," Toby's exhibiting the blogger problem. You're an outsider working with the facts that the insiders cull for you, and rather than follow up with inquiries and fact-finding of your own, so you fill in the gaps with speculation. His speculation is as reasonable as any, but who knows? Really, he didn't speak in person to the manager, so how much can he meaningfully infer from Teufel's tone?
  21. Sounds like people on either side of the Flores question need a dose of perspective. It's like that with prospects, as you want to be quick to respond to threats and buy or sell early, if only emotionally.
  22. I didn't mean to be smart. I'm not quite sure what the term means, though I gather it has something to do with generating force from a biomechanically unsustainable source.
  23. Is he still "scap-loading"?
  24. Good post. I like that "I think his bat will play in the majors right now" coupled with the dose of humility, accepting that just because you think it, doesn't mean it's a good idea.
