  1. By the way, Dilson starts tonight. I'm calling it.
  2. Lost in the insanity last night: Yankees lost and Blue Jays won. A happiness quad. Rooting for Texas and Minnesota to turn on the jets also.
  3. Gotta be Dave Wickersham.
  4. It must be true. This is Rantsports we're talking about.
  5. An article in The Times has a story about the mustard in Cespedes' game, highlighting his uncanny ability to throw the ball underhanded with strength and accuracy. Some believe he started doing it as a tribute to his mother, who was a star pitcher for the Cuban softball team. Pretty cool that the Mets have two (at least!) outfielders who have star athletic bloodlines on both sides of the family. That may be their edge in scouting. They're checking out the mothers.

  7. I got your Xander Bogaerts right here. What are you jerk faces trying to do? Make Wilmer cry again?
  8. I keep flashing on this:
  9. You knew Stauffer was gonna be a 54 because of his mashed-up door and his cheesy little amp.
  10. What impressed me the most was the festibrations of Eric Young. He was all "OUR TEAM! OUR TIME!" and if anybody was looking to tell him that his time was two years ago, and only sorta, even if that wasn't all that much, he just wasn't hearing it.
  11. In what is hoped will be the last of the 2015 Mets' number swiping cases, Dilson Herrera has returned to Metland sporting Danny Muno's erstwhile 16. Muno, of course, is sadly sporting a ticket to the Shlabotnikville, having been DFA'd and cleared waivers a few weeks back to open up roster room for Addison Reed. Here's hoping that ticket isn't one-way, Danny!
  12. Not that there's any room left in the dugout, but if the Mets are going to call up a September guest staffer as they have in past years (Oberkfell, Teufel, Backman twice), maybe it's time Frank Viola got a taste. He's kind of earned it, and the Mets suddenly have a lot of pitchers that he's seen more of than Warthan has. But maybe that's the sort of thing that second-, third-, and fourth-place Mets teams do.
  13. It's so cool and surreal to see that over-stuffed Mets dugout celebrating together Mets whose main Metly time is mostly past with varying degrees of unlikeliness for the post-season roster; Mets whose time is now, grinding it out, finding new alchemy every day; Mets whose time is mostly future, not playing much so far, but wondering if if their big league careers are always going to be this magical.
  14. G-Fafif wrote: Piscopo would discard offensive garb later that year to get his head bashed in by a properly dressed Lee Mazzilli in a music video with greater staying power. Yankee fan steals the bad girl. Met fan hero reunites with Jamie Gertz. It's a timeless tale.
  15. Among the things the Mets are taking care of in September 2015 is September 1978. That is, they are dialing back their median of mediocrity all the way back beyond that far-flung month. The Mets are at least a .500 team over their last 5,868 games, going back to Saturday, September 2 (Game Two), 1978, an improvement of 5 games. This takes us past the debut of Gil Flores and the birth of Alex Escobar. Past the beginning of the Camp David conference and the death of Keith Moon. The Mets have been over .500 since Moon died. The Mets are also pushing back the lesser mile markers near the point of oblivion. The Mets are at least a .490 team over their last 8,108 games, going back to Sunday, September 27 (Game One), 1964, an improvement of 1 game. The Mets are at least a .480 team over their last 8,566 games, going back to Saturday, May 5, 1962 , an improvement of 1 game. That last one has a good chance of disappearing entirely some time next summer. And shortly after the Mets go back over .480 all-time, they'll be advancing their best-ever all-time winning percentage every time they improve their record.
  16. Cedeño was one of the all-time great stretch run additions. LOOK at that month he had with St. Louis as he was limping toward the end of his career. How the heck did that happen? That the Mets should lose a pennant because the Cards traded some going-nowhere minor leaguer for the Cedeño while the Mets gobbled up Larry Bowa who played exactly as bad as you might have expected (in fact, worse) ... well life isn't fair, Johnny.
  17. You know, there was an out sometime in the middle of the game, when Bryce We-Don't-Quit-and-Neither-Should-You Harper hit an infield grounder and barely dragged his ass out of the box. THAT, too, was something of a momentum changer from my vantage point.
  18. Who gets the most crap in DC over the next 24 hours? [list:9ih2gdfo]1. Williams? 2. Papebon? 3. Heartless fans?[/list:u:9ih2gdfo]
  19. And doing it with a 3-1 count too. And Duda bringing the dee.
  20. No Laggy? Freakin' 0-2 hits, man.
  21. HEY, PIGNATANO IN THE HOUSE! I <3 WALKS
  22. It was a more innocent/more guilty time. I think Paul Molitor bankrolled the game's development in the early years. Maybe with some of his Brewer teammates like Don Money and Cecil Cooper?
  23. FORMERNATSCLOSER > CURRENTNATSCLOSER
  24. Howie Rose came very close to a "Holy shit!"
