  1. Poor Montero, man. He was like a goaltender that whole at-bat. But credit to Cespedes for putting pressure on the defense and exploiting an obvious flaw in the shift deployment. If the nearest defender is 50 feet from third base, the runner can take a 50-foot lead.
  2. Joe has hit the Hot 100 six times, and hit #101 with a seventh. And that's just stateside. He's on my Alternative Imaginary R'n'RHoF shortlist.

  4. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: great night! Saw Joe Jackson perform at Town Hall, then to the bar next door in time for the 7th. Everyone - and I mean everyone -- in our row and the one in front were checking the score until he took the stage: so when he came out I shouted "Cespedes!!" and got some laffs. As soon as the show let out people were agog over the WP K. My brother had to catch the Metro North so I walked crosstown with Howie and Josh and heard the final out just as I got to the 3rd ave. 7 stop. Drawback -- Heartland Brewery was full of clueless tourists and the TVs had bad reception, and the beer was too expensive. Bonus -- Joe had a superb band, was in good humor, covered Bowie's 'Scary Monsters'; the Beatles' 'Girl'; and Televison's 'See No Evil.' Did Joe play "Right & Wrong" and ask your opinion on the Yankees/Mets question? lkzb656WVuQ

  7. Two Broke Girls: It's kinda like Laverne & Shirley and kinda like The Mary Tyler Moore Show, except neither of those shows sucked.

He's a big dumb galoot and he's wearing a Cubs uniform. He also may or may not be into bestiality. I'm guessing... not... a model scholar athlete.
  11. Nice to see Wright getting his cuts in tonight.
  12. Kyle Schwarber = future Yankee.
  13. I'm disappointed to be this deep in the post-season and we still haven't launched a Niewenhuis Missle.
  14. Nights like this, I appreciate Colon all the more. Seeing one of the young pitchers grind through adversity, I think it's Colon's model. Or not.
  15. Crazy that he's getting away with challenging Murphy inside like that.
  16. If you met Travis Wood on the street, you'd think, "Oh, this guy must be a relief pitcher."
  17. Most Fascinating Person Behind Home Plate = Guy with green sweatshirt and pink baseball cap.
  18. Montero: Not a hero. Rules: Sucky.
  19. Well hit anyway, Daniel Murphy.
  20. Always good to get into the pen before the sixth. ALWAYS good. I don't care who your starter is.
  21. Nice job, Soler, but we've got a big, strong Cuban dude, too.
  22. It seems like most of these Mets are getting good looks, but that darting change up has a few guys jumping out of their shoes.
