Keeping your regular third baseman on the bench and saving him for a big situation, all while starting a rich, sauted eggplant-and-potato casserole in his place. I see your knavery. Bunt towards the Greek casserole! This is good. I'm still trying to guess if Kong was making a funny or spellcheck got him.

I mean, we all already know enough by now not to be illusioned or disillusioned. But what's sad to me is that Lenny despite prison, bankruptcy, divorce, familial estrangement, and all the public disgrace associated with that still thinks he's smarter than the house and is one big score away from walking away with the big pot and showing everybody once and for all. Just like Pete Rose. Any word on whether Cecil Fielder ever found his moral compass?
  4. I hope Dykstra realizes that, while he may think he's just shooting the shit with the worst person in sports broadcasting, he's actually confessing to a pretty serious crime.
  5. Hi I'm Mets rookie Michael Conforto, and already in my young career, I've done something only two other players are known to have done, having now competed in the Little League World Series, the College World Series and the MLB World Series. The only known precedents for this rare feat are Jason Varitek and Ed Vosberg. Maybe I'm a little young and self-centered, but wtf is Ed Vosberg? Anyhow, next goal to be victorious in this third leg.

  7. Yeah, that sort of thing is gonna be a gut call no matter which way he goes. But I still have a gut feeling of my own that he'll look to Uribe, unless the situation (power vs. OBP, or something) subtly suggest that he should deploy one and keep the other standing by. With the call for one two different guys being close, Terry usually tends to give both a try.
  8. May 26, 1993. Amazingly, Canseco got off scot free (is this a slur against Scotsmen?) and that ball was scored a home run. Carlos Martinez was the batter, Kenny Rogers, the hard-luck pitcher.
  9. Terry heeds the argument for Laggy in center and Conforto DH-ing. Let's see if he switches to Uribe as first righty off the bench.

Given how it unfolded, it was either all hit or all error; it's not as if he kicked it additionally beyond that first misplay. Have you ever seen anything ruled a four-base error? I guess the bounce of of Canseco's head had to be one, right?
  11. Take a mid-day nap, you early riser. I hope you all know, one of the best things about this season and subsequent post-season run is that has brought the coobiest coobiness out of cooby.
  12. I'm exuberant about the present and exuberant about the immediate future.
  13. Amen. Outfielders get way too many fielding breaks from official scorers.
  14. This postseason isn't about Art Howe or Wes Westrum or Steve Chilcott. Of course it isn't. On the other hand, it's about for you whatever you want to put on it baseball's achievements being merely symbolic and all. I like historical redemption, so I made something up.
  15. Yeah, it was a tough night for most of the righties, save for Lagares. But the first play* was something less than a fluke, or something more, as Cespedes didn't even have his glove in the air, and seemed to make this weird stab at very last moment to catch it at his hip, only to end up sticking his leg under it and have it carom away. *I'm still not sure how that was scored by the way: Homer? Four-base error? Double and a two-base error?
  16. So, one of you Game Three attendees is going dressed as Karl Ehrhardt and bringing a "BELIEVE IN MIRACLES?" sign, right? Right?
  17. It's my commercial to you.
  18. If I'm eating breakfast at Taco Bell, that's a message from myself to myself that it's probably a good time to take a step back and take a look at the choices I've made.
  19. Poor, poor, unredeemed Art Howe.
  20. I have a job. I'd be datamining 24-7 if I could.
  21. Some guy on Twitter reports the following hard-to-verify statistic: Pitches Chris Young has thrown 90 MPH+, by Year 2008: 36 2009: 0 2010: 0 2011: 0 2012: 0 2013: 0 2014: 0 2015: 8 (all last night) I shoulda gone to Princeton.
  22. I'm not sure that pulling Harvey worked out all that fine, but it played out as it played out. But perhaps if Harvey goes one more inning, we compress our bullpen needs, and the one batter who tied the game never comes to bat.
  23. No problem at all. That fourth out, which was Familia's first, was the most important out of the game. At least to that point.
  24. Lagares isn't a perfect solution, but he may be the better one. Aren't you advocating for the Cespedes-Lagares-Granderson alignment up there in this very thread?
