  1. What a smoking car fire this is. I never go for the logic of "You've got to save your pitching with no days off coming up." You have extra pitching in the minors if you need it tomorrow. I mean, if eight relievers isn't enough, what is?
  2. Three-inning night for Synder. Good for the Nats for running so aggressively on him.
  3. My mother is currently a patient and beneficiary of the Katz Womens Hospital at LIJ. All hail Uncle Saul.
  4. I'm no expert, but if I were you, I'd blame myself.
  5. I don't know if that bit about Jefferies true or not, but if you're going to write a dicky book, at least deviate from the prevailing narrative. At least add to it. Tell me about Jefferies' porn collection. Tell me that he missed the toilet when he peed. Really, is there a whinier personality in baseball than Dykstra? Lenny "wrote" an article in the New York Post today to promote the book, recalling the day of his trade to the Mets, how he was 3-3 when Johnson took him out of the game. Of course, that silly thing called the record says he was 1-3. Why do we want so badly to be bullshitted by obvious scoundrels? When did this come to pass?
  6. And yet, they've tied it up. Maybe Syndie needs a little more examining.
  7. But how about that? He dogged it! Again!
  8. Can't keep Harper down forever.
  9. Two lost opportunities to put this game in their pockets early.
  10. I'm not sure me and Flores agree on what constitutes a safety squeeze.
  11. If I can find it for free, maybe.
  12. -Nimmo has his second hit! Always somehow surprised when I'm blacked out of Nats games.
  13. Amazingly, somebody gave Len Dykstra a contract to produce a new book. [fimg=200]https://thenypost.files.wordpress.com/2016/06/91z2e0wj6l.jpg?quality=90&strip=all&strip=all[/fimg] More amazingly, advance publicity makes it sound worse than Bad Stuff 'Bout the Mets, as far as a litany of petty backstabbing bullshit. Davey Johnson: "... lucky manager," "drunk every night and frequently hung over just enough the next day to not always know what was going on," "worst communicator I’ve ever been associated with in baseball ... ." Mookie Wilson: " ... terrible breath. I’m talking death fumes." George Foster: "... human Xanax." Kevin McReynolds: "... honest-to-God redneck .... hated baseball." Gregg Jefferies: " ... losing player, not to mention a whiny little bitch." Look at that sub-title. What resurrection? When you've lost or sold everything, in the end, you've still got your friends. Dykstra's apparently decided to sell them too. I trust that if I look up Ron Darling, I'll learn that he "steal Lenny's soap and he no give back." I mean, halitosis. For fuck's sake. I hope a lot of somebodies lose their shirts over this.
  14. There are so many important causes, and the Mets have there hands in dozens of them, but when one of them is directly involved in the sins your players have committed, there's something of a greater moral imperative to make that your mission of choice. Because let's face it, there's a lot of red ink when it comes to athletes asserting their alpha man prowess and committing acts of sexual and domestic aggression. It was an administration or two ago when the hiring took place, but I guess it can be said that the Mets have walked this road before when they brought Wally Backman back into the fold. I certainly can't say to what extent they took the gravity of past accusations against him, or what measures they took to use his employment as an opportunity for advancement, but there's that.
  15. Possibly re-entering the rankings soon: José Reyes. Third in all-time hits, 118 behind Ed Kranepool. Third in singles, 152 behind Ed Kranepool. Fourth in doubles, three behind Ed Kranepool. (Ed is starting to look like a theme.) First in triples, a whopping 37 ahead of Mookie Wilson and 64 ahead of the top active Met, David Wright. 19th in homers, one behind Tommie Agee and 37 homers behind #10 (Ed Kranepool, of course). 11th in RBI, 33 behind Kevin McReynolds. First in stolen bases, 69 ahead of Mookie Wilson, and 174 ahead of top active Met David Wright. Fourth in total bases, 65 behind Darryl Strawberry.
  16. I like forcing young guys to earn their way into key spots in the order (look how batting Conforto third backfired), but Nimmo's main skill seems wasted hitting him seventh. Maybe they should put him ninth. Historically, somebody breathing down his neck has led to hot streaks for Flores (for Tejada too, for that matter). Maybe that happens. Wish I had more ideas than that. I don't like how Terry's managing and I don't like the hitting approach. But I don't like it when it works either. And it hasn't gotten the heat on Terry or Kevin Long yet. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Cespedes looks beat. That was some weak shit he pulled on the basepaths this weekend. They've got some nice links down in Georgia.
  17. I messaged him a couple of days ago. Nuttin'.
  18. I was questioning the other half of that equation. The Mets wouldn't be eating $18 million if they cut those two loose, but approximately $12,743,750, as the season is about 45% over. Not advocating, just multiplying.
  19. And Nimmo swings 2-0?
  20. Tying run on deck. Vizcaino on his way in. GO ZIMMO GO!
  21. Loney, you don't swing at the first pitch when the tying run is behind you in the ninth. Just the most obvious thing ever.
  22. Well, hey, look, what might have been the go-ahead run is on second.
  23. Well, this isn't the plan.
