  1. Gary: Nice play by Tommy Goodwin. As good a play as we've seen by a coach all year. Ron: I'm all over Tuff. He just let's 'em go or kicks 'em around. Keith: Didn't he do that when he played? KaPOW!
  2. And... we're back! Meant to say before the delay: DeGrom beating really good hitters up and in is something to see.
  3. At the sound of the tone, Asdrubal Cabrera will do something awesome. [bigpurple:2ddgtfy0]BEEP![/bigpurple:2ddgtfy0]
  4. At the sound of the tone, James Loney will do something awesome. [bigpurple:3qcbwzeg]BEEP![/bigpurple:3qcbwzeg]
  5. Carlos Santana hits a game-winning homer off of Darwin Barney in the 19th inning, Trevor Bauer goes five extra innings for the win, and the Indians take their 14th in a row. That's just ALL crazy.
  6. Under way. What's with the strange texturing of the outfield grass? This isn't the Dead's doing, is it?
  7. Brett it is, gifted with enough of his brother's DNA to hit .262 / .291 /.406 // .698 over 373 plate appearances (spent too much of his career in the American League) in a not particularly offensive era. Bonus: he appeared on Fantasy Island. Never, to my knowledge, crapped himself in the lobby of a casino.

That one was tied for 11th at 461. Tell me about Cabrera. Is the general sense in Detroit that he's clean and sober or that he's still a daily danger to himself and society?

  10. [fimg=500]https://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s---Crmx6ev--/c_scale,fl_progressive,q_80,w_800/1397072655457500963.jpg[/fimg] Not a lot of digital ink has been given to it (that I've noticed, anyhow), but the Giants yesterday became the first team in 40 years to have the designated hitter available to them, but turn in a lineup card at the start of the game that instead included the pitcher's name in the batting lineup — Madison Bumgarner's name, to be specific. Bumgarner rewarded the Giants with a double and a run score as the Giants rolled out 12 runs in their victory over the DH-advantaged Athletics. Interestingly, Bummy's stat line —1-4 with a double and a run, was exactly the same as the A's' (is that expressed correctly?) DH, Billy Butler. Forty cranebucks to whoever can name the last pitcher who hit so effectively that he compelled his team to turn in a DH-free lineup card.

That's the official distance of that Céspedes homer, seventh longest in the bigs this season (but only five feet short of #2) The Top Ten: Rank Hitter Team DateTrue Distance Video1Stanton, GiancarloMIA05/06/16490VideoT2Cron, C.J.LAA06/21/16471VideoT2Arenado, NolanCOL04/10/16471Video4Gonzalez, CarlosCOL05/30/16469VideoT5Yelich, ChristianMIA05/06/16468VideoT5Rodriguez, SeanPIT04/22/16468VideoT7Cespedes, YoenisNYM06/30/16466VideoT7Park, Byung HoMIN04/16/16466Video9Cabrera, MiguelDET05/14/16464Video10Upton Jr., MelvinSD06/28/16462Video I don't have the parks, but if you watch all the videos, I'd bet half of these were hit in Colorado.
  13. Having a ready-to-contribute Conforto and Nimmo on the team in the second half certainly would make the SHaMs look considerably more formidable.
  14. #15 according to my clicking. But maybe it was #1 at the time they said it. More likely #1 in some sub-category. But man, even #15 is insane. WtF?
  15. There's disagreement in scouting circles, there's disagreement online, with a wide range of outcomes still on the table. Now that we've seen Nimmo go down with the tying runs on and two out in the ninth and then turn around and turn a game around right after, let's poll the room. 16. Pretty good call. [fimg=400:eyxp02a1]https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d7/Misscrabtree_schoolsout.JPEG[/fimg:eyxp02a1] [fimg=300:eyxp02a1]http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MyXxAI1gxug/Uw-AS2pOlDI/AAAAAAAAn4Q/MCGGpMdHnJs/s1600/June+Marlowe,+aka+Miss+Crabtree.png[/fimg:eyxp02a1]
  17. Next is either Long Island Ducks or Hanshin Carp.
  18. I like to think the Mets have given the Cubs their LoB cooties.
  19. No outs. The third base coach is likely playing the odds there. But yeah, if he gets down the line himself (a la Bobby Valentine), he can get a better read on the mis-play, but he may have already had the sign up before the ball dribbled away.
  20. Not for nothing, but he had a 1.80 ERA in the World Series, and a 0.61 ERA in the post-season as a whole. Opponents had a .477 WHIP against him. You can hardly ask for anything more. He came in that last game with one run already home and the tying run on second, with no outs. They had waited until he had virtually no margin for error. He got three groundouts, two of which were struck notably weakly, and the tying run scored on a freaky play. To scapegoat him would be to miss virtually everything else. Not that that ever stopped Benitez bashers.
  21. Benitez had a splitter and a sinker, although he didn't really feature them until he went on to the Marlins. Kong is thinking of Braden Looper.
  22. Mole should pump all his big shot musical guests at [fimg=30:2m60ttil]http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~mbishop/icons/opuscone.gif[/fimg:2m60ttil] 40 for a blurb.
  23. I think Nimmo's smile is great.
