  1. All of our current young guns throw effective sliders. None moreso than than Syndergaard. I don't know if we call what Jeurys throws a slider or a cutter, but I think it's the former, and it's deadly on lefties.

    Fastball

Randall K. Myers, as hard as anybody had seen from the left side, at least up until that point in time. Bobby Parnell, inexplicably, hit 103 at the hight of his powers.

    Change-Up

No, Tug was all about the scroogie. Most effective Mets pitcher who lived and died by the change, in my mind, is Pat Zachry. But the best change I saw was Pedro Martinez's.
  4. I think "Mets" plus "slider" and I think Turk Wendell. I don't know if he threw anything else.
  5. Ashie62 wrote: Has anyone formally come out and said Cespedes might have been a juicer in Cuba. Céspedes might have been a juicer in Cuba. I've certainly said as much all along. Seriously, gun to your head, it's hard to bet any other way.
  6. Two of the three guys I specifically asked to step up d'Arnaud and Flores had good games. Laggy, on the other hand stranded a large family of base runners. Flores making a strong case for everyday status. Laggy, not so much.
  7. Stupid rubber game. Way to go, Bastardo. Looking for a big second half from you.
  8. Five hits in four innings, but no runs? Let's end that nonsense.
  9. The talent this year seems to gravitate toward the infield, with Alonso, Woodchuck, et al. Also getting some sweet relief from Zamghi, Becker, and the backwards-named Taylor Henry.
  10. Floating around and winning five of their last 10, the 'Clones remain five games back of the division leading Is-That-An-Island? Yankees, tied for third, which also means tied for last. Like the parent club, some days they just wake up and don't hit. They recently got three-hit by Hudson Valley, with most of the heavy lifting being done by a pitcher named Travis Ott, who is 3-0 and hasn't yet given up an earned run. I was disappointed to find no reports connecting him to the Mel/Ed Ott dynasty. The Cyclones have cycled through their early season organizational players and all the college players from the draft have settled in, so they should likely get better, since the Mets' first 10 draftees were all college players. The biggest splash so far has come from second round draftee and former Florida Gator Pete Alonso, slugging .553 through his first 43 trips to the plate. Adopt Pete Alonso. He's 21 and ready for fun. And get a picture of him while you're at it. He's a holdout. 11. Yeah, Yoenis looke Yoawful in the the outfield last night, and I think they're going to give him dgaangs off until his leg is healthy. It's a good day for Flores, d'Arnaud, and Lagares to show the second half star form we'll be coming to expect from them. Rare starts against righties for WF and JG. I realize it's a super-ground-ball pitcher, but Conforto in the eight hole has got to sting. Got to.
  12. Good to see commentary at the top of an IGT. I imagine if an ump who just made a bad call and his chief put on the headphones, and Jeff Kellogg immediately appears on the other end, saying, "Nice call, bonehead! He was safe and everybody in America but you knew it." they're going to stall for at least 30-45 seconds, focused and concentrated looks on their faces, and let on that are subtleties in existence that just aren't there, just to save face.
  13. "I love my slider, I love throwing it into count." [fimg=400:2ra1yegy]http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/grouches/images/9/94/Count_von_Count_baseball.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20140209121613[/fimg:2ra1yegy] "He's after me, Keith and Mookie!"
  14. I'm telling you. We transferred the whammy onto them. OE: And pitched out of trouble like princes.
  15. I was thinking this morning of putting up a poll about the RISP BA, and whether it would move to correct itself, or whether it was a real thing. I guess it can be seen as heartening that the figure is so historically low and the team is still in contention.
  16. Always a gentleman, available to the press every night with patient, thoughtful answers. Possibly the most mobbed up player since Pepitone.
  17. It's a strange sense you get when a team loads the bases against you with none out, to know this hardly guarantees any runs will score, because you have seen the 2016 Mets .
  18. Zvon wrote: He redeemed himself with the DP. Reyes whipped that ball to Walker and have you ever seen any of our second baseman pull such a blazing fast pivot & throw. Doug Flynn, man. And actually, even though the rest of his defensive game was mostly dead by the time he got here, Roberto Alomar good still turn two pretty consistently and impressively.
  19. Sheesh, when did they pass the Mets. Half game off the second Wild Card. Booo.
  20. And Washington (or, as my wife calls them, the mid-Atlantic Yankees) losing.
  21. Reyes giveth and Reyes taketh.
  22. Hit a catcher in the fingers and then try and bunt on him. Not particularly cool by Cabrera, but nice to see a Met looking for an edge.
  23. Granderson didn't get anywhere near that second-inning double either, but he looks confident out there in center.
