Last Mets doubleheader sweep of the Cards, Darling pitched a complete game in Game One. Nice one, Gary. -
A brief return to the standings as the Mets return to Wild Card "leader" status, if only by percentage points. This gives us a good picture of who will be buying and who will be selling over the next four weeks. Everybody below Pittsburgh is likely playing for the future. Mets are surprisingly low percentage bet as a division contender. But numbers don't lie. Also notable is that the Giants are expected to fall and these Cards we face twice today are a Wild Card favorite. We have a good chance re-write that future. And the Cards score without getting it out of the infield. Boo. Regards to your question. I think the answer is both. The run is officially unearned, but it counts against his ERA or something. The rules are kind of half thought out on this sort of thing. -

Yeah, the Cards are a lot like the Mets. A good but broken team, in a pretty good position for the Wild Card, but realizing that's a crapshoot, and desperate not to let the division slip away from them. -
I think league-wide precedent favors mothballed numbers being returned to action if requested on behalf an honored player's children or godchildren. Also, if you're Ricky Henderson, you get to wear whatever you want.

The Gulf Coasties had Desmond Lindsay working out with them, but he got sent up to Brooklyn without a single GCL appearance. This has left a void in the outfield, and in the prospect watching and the Coasters have lost five in a row. Catcher Carlos Sanchez may be a player or he may be lightning in a bottle after three years in the DSL. A lot of DSL long-timers pock this roster, but draftees like Dariel Rivera and Matt Cleveland and Cameron Planck are starting to settle in and may change the character of tis team. Speaking of character, would it kill them to have somebody pull out his cell phone and snap some mugshots. Sheesh, could there be a more nondescript team? Until we get some mugshots, here’s what Ezequiel Zabaleta looks like. The Gulf Coasties had Desmond Lindsay working out with them, but he got sent up to Brooklyn without a single GCL appearance. I hope it's not too crazy, but I'm not sure I wouldn't start an outfield of Cespy/Laggy/Reyes and an infield, left-to-right, of Flores/Cabrera/Walker/Johnson. -

It's like he's trolling Chipper Jones with a birth certificate. YAY!!

There goes the idea of catching the Cardinals without sleep.

Last I heard, perhaps a week ago, the 1969 San Diego Padres were the last team to struggle so mightily with RISP. I agree they have the offensive pieces to contend. What an acquisition could bring is a psychological jolt, but that could come from a lot of places.

It's hard. I don't know what the answer is as to what the Mets need to get. They are more-or-less getting it done all around the diamond. Nobody is overwhelmingly good except healthy Céspedes, but nobody is the obvious soft spot. They could use a left-handed pinch hitter to replace De Aza, but that'll be taken care of when Duda returns. Not to say upgrades couldn't be found in any number of places, but it's just not obvious where the best spot to look is. First base and centerfield, I guess.
